Why the difference between a small group of people i.e. politicians and world leaders result in the many (the rest of us) having to pay the ultimate price... Is anything worth that?
50%+ catastrophic losses in a 5 day period; the maneuvering through a 'shooting gallery' model for tactical advance theory was an over-used command policy. Between artillery and disease; you wonder how the WWI soldier kept on going? These campaigns are so alien to how things are done now. Well, it's over 90 years since the 'Armistice' and we still have combat? It seems that societies on Earth have this as a 'common' feature.

LOL Russia already stoped fighting in 1917. the eastern front was closed and the german soldiers were moved from the eastfront to the westfront to launch a last offensive. SO Russia had no soldier left, the war was already over in the east.
plus the royal navy blockade meant that germany was starving thats why the german push that broke the stalemate (can't remeber the name) broke down, the german elite troops disaplin broke down as soon as they found food and the allience was able to counter attack.

Why they were fighting for the democracy? the Germans were not anti-democrats, in the truth the two sides were missed, them they fought for the imperialism in Africa and not democratical against anti-democrats. You confused it with the WWII :S
so so true. the germans even had to create a democracy government after WW1, called the Weimar Republic. the germans were imperialists, but not ani-democrats. its good to know that someone actually knows the true facts of history. i commend you.
According to historians of the Lost Battalion Charles W. Whittlesey, who was a major not a captain, my mistake, suffered from what was then called shell shock. After the war he said,"I used to think I was a lawyer; now i dont know what I am". On Nov. 25 ,1921, he boarded a cruise liner to Cuba. After writing nine letters to friends and relatives and a note to the ships captain regarding what to do with his luggage, he jumped overboard. His body was never found.

We basically saved the allies in both world wars. We came because we didn't want to see our allies getting completely decimated. Be grateful, we may have arrived later in the war, but that doesn't mean that we didn't suffer and that we didn't help. The world wars ended shortly after America arrived because America arrived. Both world wars could have lasted years longer if we hadn't joined them. Next time think before you get angry at America.
britain and france had already stopped the german offensive, and germany was running out of supplies... all we really did was ship war goods to britian for the entire war
we did not save the allies... we jumped in at the last second and took part in the victory
germany wasnt running out of supplys it supplied france and britain in the peace time and when war broke out france and britain lost valuable resourses for there war machine to operate and france didnt stop the offensive they where being slaughterd buy the hundreds of thousends each battle and only slowed the german advanced with the string of out of date forts all along the french/german boarder.
By mid-1916, Germay's people were beginning to starve in the streets. Common things such as bread became scarce, Austria-Hungary was pretty much useless, so Germany was running out of war material.
That's just not true. The Germans were beaten after the Somme. Their spring offensive failed catastrophically against 90% Brit and French troops. American presence hastened the end of the war and allowed the harsh Versailles treaty, but nothing more. As for you saving the allies during WWII - I think the 23 million or so dead soviets credit the red army with that one. The presence of the Americans DID prevent a larger communist bloc developing in post war Europe. Which is a good thing.
Woodrow Wilson advised against the harshness of the treaty as he saw it would lead to German outrage so to speak.I dont think the Yank's can be held accountable for that.
The Brits also advised against it. The presence of the americans mesnt the Germans had to accept whatever terms were imposed, and the French wanted Versailles - they had lost 1.4m men, had their country trashed. Without the Americans the Germans would have been in a position to negotiate because the French and Brits did not want to fight anymore either. The Germans lost, but the anglo-french were badly beaten up.
Ok, America joined the Entente(Allies was WW2) in April of 1917, we had a division in France by November the same year. It wasnt until 1918 however that we started to get a lot of troops in Europe.
The commander of this unit committed suicide after the war. He took a steam liner from New York to Cuba and never got off at Cuba. His body was never recovered.
I think Canada is cool, but honestly, thats not true. And besides, you say it like Canada had a choice to enter the war. Great Britain told Canada what to do back then.
Piotrekno1, My father fought along side Polish troops at Monte casino, he said they were very brave,he also said they great soldiers, you have much to be proud of. best wishes N15.
The thing that kills me inside for most of the people in the living world... is that most people say that America were WW1 heroes, WRONG! Maybe they saved use from dispair and defeat.... but the British and French soldiers fought for 3 years, and got slaughtered.... Britain were the true heroes in that war.... and wasn't it Britain who created tanks that turned the tide of the war?
I think the thing is that the introduction of the AEF into the war before the Germans could finish their final offensive. Yes, the Allies who were there the entire time are true heroes, with the BEF somehow getting decimated twice, and the French who were finally figuring out small squad tactics four years later, but the fresh American troops and their energy and numbers stopped the CP offensives and turned the tide.
in my country the men werent fighting for freedom of belgium, they were promised better living standads and the right to vote. in ww2 they were promised a better britan, housing and national health care. they fought and died 4 fuck all the 4 main parties are shitting on my country while liberals have thier own selfish agenda and islam is now the "in" religon. the only party (BNP) that will do anything is brannded racisist and isnt allowed to campain on TV. how is that a better britan.
It always broke my heart that he killed himself. As a little kid I found a book at a yard sale called History and Rhymes of the Lost Battalion, dedicated to Whittlesey and a picture of him inside. I've been fascinated by WW1 ever since.
I think the movie would have been better for me if it weren't that EVERY TIME the German command addressed the Lost Battalion, they just marvel at how plucky those gosh-darned Americans are. Like four different scenes. Really? Is that all there was to talk about up there? Aside from that it was pretty good, especially for a TV movie.
nice video man, This is my 2nd favorite war movie(Saving Private Ryan My first). This was defently a good war movie, I'm sure if this was a little longer it would have made theaters but its not that long of a movie - added to my favorites :D
Really? Saving Private Ryan and the first? That didn't really stick you as being a pretty run of the mill buddy-war movie? Don't get me wrong, the battle scenes are top notch, but the plot and everything... Ryan turns out to be nothing more than a MacGuffin to allow the other guys to play soldier the whole time through. I appreciate it but it's not my favorite at all.
