  • lol, chinchilla probably felt threatened or territorial since a lot of animals are. Or maybe he wants attention...lol, he started doing it when the cat was around his cage...

  • My chinchilla usually does this sound while he is sleeping. :S

  • @Ertiyed so does mine and it wakes me up and i go over to himm and make sure hes okayy.

  • FYI! It means they don't like what they see or you are doing! If they are alone and want to play then they will also do this mostly for the first reason!

  • I played this for my chinchilla and she jumped out of my hands and ran under the couch O__O thanks a lot :)

  • Maybe he didn't like the Show you were watching.

  • The "barking" is normal its usually a warning or a way to assert themselves.

  • HAHA That is one cute bark

  • ohhhhh no... my dad is NOT going to like that noise in the middle of the night if he can hear it from across the house.... i wont tell him though :D i still am trying to convince him to get me one

  • My 8-month old Chin, AJ does that every once in a while when my wife and I are sitting in the living room. Lol he did it once when my wife and her friends were talking in the chin room, almost like he was saying "Shut up" XD

  • @Robbodadevil

It can be both. In this case, per the owner's description, the cat was sniffing around the cage.

  • Hi i have two chinchilla and one of them does this sound in his sleep is that normal?

  • idk why mine does that it just does someone want to help me she is 11 months old and i still dont no what the hell it means

  • @connellyman11

Pay close attention to when she does it. What is around her, sounds, smell...if u see a pattern then u have your answer. Or like others say it could be a call for attention. Good luck =)

  • WHERE CAN YOU GET A CHINCHILLA IN MEL, AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!

  • Can a chinchilla be put on a small leash?

  • mine does this when she sees my dwarf hamster :S

  • I think the chinchilla's bark is sooo cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee x3

  • @RobynFentyFan22 Don't worry, my chin did that to, but now that im repsonding to you 2 monthes later, your chinchillas should be settled in and nice and cozy :)

  • my friends chinchilla jumps like none stop sometimes its really cool to watch these things

  • all i heard was pika pika

  • I SPOT CAT ! bark bark bark.

  • this is funny not to funny but can u give tell me about them after my hamster dies im getting a chinchilla .

  • @RobynFentyFan22 Yes, I would say she is just getting used to her new environment. If she saw something new, was startled, heard a noise, or anything like that she was just letting everyone else know.

  • @adameb75 one of my 2 sister chinchilla's does it when she suddenly wakes up out of her sleep. I always though she had a nightmare ^^ thanks this helps me alot. Now i understand them better.

  • look it up on google that means hes lonely bored hungry wants attention or scared. chins have extremely good hearing it might be a dog bark car door tv or almost anything. when he does that just take him out for a while talk to him maybe give him a dust bath. or i give mine a dandelion drop, you can find those at pet

    stores mine loves them!!!!!!!!! :3

  • ours doesn't make that noise. o.o'

his barks are kinda like a chuck!/chick! sound, and only when he's angry.

  • Lol @ the tampon commercial in the backround.

  • it could be to hot near the heater but if its off then it could want attention :)

  • ii remember the 1st time mine did this..ii was in my room nd ii had he cage outside of the door. nd it was maybe 1 or 2 in the morning nd ii just hear this sound coming from outside..to me it sounded like a clown laughing so im sitting there scared outta my mind saying 2 myself wth is that.. ii had no idea they even made noise. so the next day ii hear it again so ii look in the room nd its her sqeaking in her cage..ii swear ill never forget that lol

  • My chinchillas do this a often, I can´t understand why they are doing this so often, they are not lonely, cause they 5 they have a big cage and they can go out all night long Oo it´s bothering me a lot !

  • its doing that cuz its scared of that cat thats next to the cage. but mine also does it when hes lonley:)

  • my chin does this every time he wants atetion

  • My chinchilla waffles does this all the time!!(:

  • @pfctrujillo - Actually we rescued a family of four. Dad (Jet) is a standard gray and so were the baby boys. The mom is a Sapphire. When we got them she was nursing her two boys and was pregnant again. We found a home for the first two boys and the new baby should be going to his new mamas soon.

I actually had no idea that males are so hard to find.

  • Are you sure that's a bark?

I was always told that the "barking" sound they make is when they make that short, sharp kind of chirp.

I have one Chin who makes the sound I see in this video and he only seems to do it when he's tired or he hasn't seen his cage mate in a while. Our chincheroos don't even seem to notice the cats any more though at first they did get close to the cage and sniff at them. I don't remember them ever making any noises toward them.

  • @Kasumi0cada where did you find a "he"?! I can only find female chinchillas.

  • Lol i love that sound :)

    always makes me laugh

i know to them its not a good sign but c'mon? thumbs up if you did laugh the first time you heard your chinchilla do this ?

  • @ScottxBoy

The first time my Jet did it, we were settling in to go to sleep and his mate and babies were eating on the other side of the cage. It scared the crap out of me because I had never heard of it before. XD

  • ah yeah that is quite ferocious. It'd scare me off ahahhaa

  • Hve you noticed that before they do that they make this weird click noise ?

  • @ScottxBoy yea its like they blow all their air out hard and then make that noise

  • @ContentAtWitsEnd Yup, I've noticed that too with my girls that's how I know it's coming, lol

  • @ScottxBoy yup. I gotta look into why they make that sound first. Interesting

  • @ScottxBoy I was JUST GONNA ASK THIS!!

  • @Chinchirra lol :D

  • all chins have a unique voice so they can so lower or higher which most people can mistake their sounds, and its just bored and wants attention

  • exciting video quail lover

  • do you have your cage door open???

  • wow ur chins bark is really high pitched. Also is the cat declawed?Because your cat could reach through the bars and if she still has her claws ur chin is in toruble

  • aww poor chin i just wana hold it and make it feel all better

  • @Chinchillalovermiya Nice name :D

  • my chinchilla attacked me

  • where did you get ur cage? im still loooking for one

  • @ImGaGasNumber1Fan - Quality Cage has some of the best chinchilla cages around but on the expensive side. This is where I ordered my cage from and getting ready to order another one.

  • @ missazalea123... never ever have a cat if u have a chinchilla... my chinchilla flipps out if there is a dog near him. Cats are however born enimies. Im not saying that its dangerous, dont do it... im saying you should be more cautious about your cat.

  • my chinchillas do that lol, theyre terrified of the cat haha. they dont stop unless you hold thm

  • sounds like a squeky toy lolz. so cute

  • I love it when they bark! they sound so cute and goofy!

  • Barking usually is a bad sign because you may become hostile from the eyes of the chin

  • Mine does that when she is bored and lonely. =S

  • @Zoaea my chinchilla makes this noise a lot, usually when he is alone, could it just be him calling for attention?

  • @salemslot82

Chinchillas are social and moderately intelligent creatures, so they get bored and frustrated easily if they are left alone, especially if there's not much to do in their cage.

  • @salemslot82 no, he's literally calling out that he's afraid and there is danger, to you. They use this signal to warn other chinchillas, and since you are his family he's announcing danger to you.

  • @salemslot82 He might be just wanting attention cause theres no one around and he may be scared like your his security blanket. Mine hides all day till i get home but once im home she comes out and plays.

  • @Zoaea yup... when she wants our attention.

  • @Zoaea maybe it saw ur ancestors?

  • weird, i never heard him/her do that! it's hilarious!
