It took me two years, but I made one that could actually turn screws. Well, some types of screws anyway heh heh. The key is a lot of sound; about 140 dB or so. Preferably lower ultrasound; say 12 to 13 kHz in order to get things exciting. But I could never get the switch to work nearly as well as this one. Or look so good either. : -)
@ryananderson280195 Most of the parts for my screwdriver cost less than 20 bucks but the transducer was a special item so the whole thing came to nearly $400 for a working sonic scrwdriver. That includes having a machine shop do the four main parts and the knob out of aluminum bar stock. It may cost more these days now that the Bush monster destroyed the economy.
the 2nd doctor used this cool looking small silver one that lit up at the end, there is a picture somewhere i think it is on the doctor who wikipedia page.
Which time? The sound system was an upgrade to the original build so I paid for it twice; once for the prop and once to add the best tiny sound system ever.
Yey! That's a sight for sore eyes! It looks like it could have genuinely been invented by the Doctor with a bit of scientific know-how! The sonic screwdriver they use in the current series has a ridiculously wide variety of uses, including "sudden cliffhanger resolver".
@kyon813 Not the original. The original was first used by the 2nd Doctor, it looked like a very thin pen with a very small light at the end. This Sonic Screwdriver was first seen with the 3rd or 4th Doctor.
the new sonic screwdriver has a blue bulb and wave amplifiers... that sort of stuff. the old one looked like this and was introduced by the 2nd doctor, grown somewhere. i think inside the tardis, someone correct me if i'm wrong. it changed throughout the series and the new "blue light" sonic screwdriver was introduced by the 9th doctor in the 2005-2009 still running series.
i dont know why people have put thumbs down on your comment i mean its just your opinion. character should reales a classic sonic screwdriver for collectors like they did with that metal masters fobwatch which was a limited production
...ME WANT!!! I have a solid metal one that was SUPPOSED to be 1:1 scale but judging by this video, I was sadly mistaken! Wherever did you get this?!?! I know you mention where the sound chip came from, I'd love to get one even without the sound. Still...SUHWEEEETAAAAH!!
it was first used by the second Doctor, destroyed in the fourth Doctors time for being to useful, and then re-introduced in Doctor Who: The Movie i think
The Second Doctor used one that just looked like a simple pen light. This version, with some design,;/colour differences, was first used by the Third Doctor. This particular version was used by the Fourth, then the Fifth. It was destroyed, and not seen again until the Eighth Doctor. The current model is the one we're all used to now.
That being said, this is THE best replica of the original I have ever seen!!
OH MY GOD, i've never seen an original SS with that level of accuracy, and sound!!.... you know that feeling where you actually think you NEED something...
It was used by Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison. It was destroyed in a Peter Davison story (The Visitation) but it made a brief reappearance in the 1996 movie, when it was being used by the seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) to lock a box containing the Master's ashes.
How can I go about getting this sound chip/circuitry for my soundless alum sonic?? Thanks!!
