@bltoliver13 Those years had many issues, one was a vacuum operated axle disconnect on the front axle. If that doesn't work properly, no front drive.

However, as inexperienced as those kids were, they may just not known how to finesse in into 4x4 while stuck. It it not always as easy as when you start on flat ground and can move the vehicle to get the gears to line up.

Now, I'm not sure why you weren't in 4wd. Perhaps 4wd doesnt work on the jeep (in which case you shouldnt have been out there) or you dont know how to engage it. Either way, the ford had you out of the hole a few times, but you rolled right back in. One of your friends watching this should have instructed you to stand on the brakes as you got to the top of the hole and let the ford get another yank. Also, DONT YANK FROM THE BRUSH GUARD!

that turbo deisel coulda yanked that jeep easy, hook the chain or whatever yall used around the main bumper insted of the bull bar, back the ford up to the jeep and yank like hell, and secondly, the times you was almost out, you should have hit the brakes and held it there, that ford had more than enough power. Also, lightly engage the emergency brake, doing this will lock the diff and make both back tires spin like a lockar would, but dont brake too much.

Before I went to my 8.8 (whitch is WAY better in all forms disk brakes 3.73 LSD) my dana 35 started making loud grinding noises. It would still drive but wow was it loud.. Dropped ford 8.8 in and opend the dana 35. Pinion was looser then a crackwhore. Got my 8.8 from a yard out of a 96 for 150 bucks btw!

i have owned jeeps my whole life and the jeeps YJs, distinguished by there square head lights, all others including CJ and TJs have round head lights, YJs have been know to be weaker jeeps, TJs and CJ were build with stronger parts everyone in the jeeping world knows this, as for the rubicons, they are some of the best, because of the factory lockers and lower ratio t-cases.
