This is a sad ghazal but so beautifully marvelously rendered by MH sahab. So very heart touching. MH ji is indeed king of ghazals - his ease, his voice, his mastery in classical music is beyond excellence. Beautiful pics from Mughal E Azam that are perfect for this song. Great work ! The correct line of the is verse: * Hosla Dena Unain Meray Khda Meray Baad * Incase other wise, it will run out of poetic metre. Some times, such confusion arises, but it has shown the deep interest of Zaidi Sahib, who is a learned person/ friend. I appreciate with thanks. Khalid Asghar.

Agreed, cheecheepia. This ghazal would have been in the film MUGHL E AZAM, it was undying romanticism in reality. Though Anarkali is fiction but Indian Producer converted to it a part of history. Such sublime artsitic works never die. Khalid Asghar.

Wah! Chaar chaand laga diye Khalid Bhai ne. Kia ghazab ki tasveerain hain aur kia shaandar ghazal. Dil mein utar kar aansuon ka aik toofaan barpa kar dainy wali. Lekin pehlay shair ka doosra misra bar bar repeat ho raha hai jo ke Mehdi Sahab sehwan ghalat parh gaye hain. Still, it is the ultimate service done to poetry, art and music. A rare gem . Thanks to Khalid Asghar for putting forward this furmaish. This ghazal is parallel to a very famous and great ghazal of Ghalib,

Prof Zaidi Sahab, Although I donot consider myself as an expert of languages but my poetic sense suggests that you are quite right. The misra sung by Mehdi Hasan requires some modification from

its present form,i.e., instaed of,

" Hosla dey unhain meray khuda meray baad"

it may be in either of the following two forms,

1." Hosla dey unhain ae meray khuda meray baad"

2." Hosla daina unhain meray khuda meray baad"

i wii further discuss with mr asghar.

Thanks zaidi sahib, You pinpoint the mistake correctly because if you listen current version of ghazal the poet is talking about after the tragic end of his love and he knows its coming so word DAINA fits there well. A sterling ghazal, a fitting ghazal. Life did, sadly, become a sazaa for Anarkali and for Madhubala herself in her private life. Anarkali, more myth, less reality, and the flesh-and-blood Madhubala both gave joy to others but endured only suffering in the end. That was the "reward" an unfair fate gave them. Thanks for the post, Khalidji.
