  • i so wish i could find sheet music to this!

  • dynamics at 3:06-3:08 are PERFECTLY shaped

  • is this the real blue devils

  • A musical gun shot at 1:57!!! YES!!!

  • this is how all horn lines should sound like

  • that sound was so cool!!!

  • i hope to become apart of this

  • dam you can hear all of them breathing on 4

  • idk why just everytime i listen to BD brass i get inspired

  • amen to that.

  • I'm not really a BD fan but holy crap how I do love their warm-ups. I could listen to this all day!

  • these exercises never get old!

  • yeah BD, High brass heavy... and Phantom Low brass heavy ???

  • Low brass heavy is typically a better problem to have. Nothing against BD, their upper owns.

  • if u dont instantly orgasm at 1:57 there is something seriously wrong with you xD

  • oh i did :D, god im in highschool marching band, and this is fkn awesome!

  • haha then ur functioning just fine

and yea i'm a sophmore tuba in hs, corps like this blow my mind

  • yea, i went and changed my pants lol.

    trumpets rock :D

  • @Holmes1216 i cumed all over my computer

  • i love 1:57 im not a brass player but this is amazing

  • 1:57

  • i dnt no anything about these type bands but im starting to like them alot!!

    why dont they use trombones?

  • The Blue Devils are a Drum and Bugle Corp. They use valved brass and drums, no woodwinds, and of course the Trombone has a slide.

  • tubas play the planets during this warmup?

    sick.

  • They even have cars slowing down to hear them!

  • from me?

    if so yeh whats up?

  • someone is always going to be better.

  • hey rexpilot kid

what makes you really think your so cool that you can leave some asshole comment like that ? 4 years lead euphonium after playing trombone for three. i play every brass instroment and have never made anything less than a 1 at any state jazz, concert,or symphonic performance let alone solo and ensamble and all state. and go to bands of america every year. im in the illinois cavaliers and have scholarships everywhere. but i help people rather thatn be a dick. so grow up man.

  • That's one hell of a track record. Never less than a 1st, huh? I've never met anyone that perfect or lucky.

  • What pattern of finger warm up is this? For euph/baritone?

  • anyone have sheet music for the first warm up?

  • Blue devils is DCI at its best. i plan on joining. can't wait. any tips from anyone who is or was in DCI would be nice

  • Make sure you can do scale intervals like they rehearse here. Also, If things are the same as back in 93,94 you will have to do a marching tryout as well i a separate room. Basic marching but they really watch your heel/toe, backstep, etc. Good luck. It's a privilege to be in this elite group.

  • i also plan on trying out as a tuba do u think you could help me on some tips too please?

  • they can take the bark clean off a tree when they sound like that.

  • at 1:58 i just pooped a little....

  • Stupid awesome idea to put the alien call from the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind in there at 1:16. Funny stuff!!! :D

  • Heh....the "Close Encounters" part was part of Space Chords when I was in the corps in 1984...the modern ending after the final resolve is MUCH cooler, tho.

I still find it weird to think that the guy running the line now (John Meehan) is the SON if the guy who ran the line when I marched! (Jack Meehan)....I still remember John as a little kid from the B corps!

  • im a drummer who is in love with BD.

but shit this to me right now is so much more amazing!!!

  • OOOH! That tuba rhythm is from the Gustav Holts Planets Suite: Mars the Bringer of War...lol...just caught that playing at 1:05...

    what a nerd i am...

    :P

  • ive got chills like crazy...1:08-1:30..OH MY GOD

  • Lovely brass sound... I wished i could do that... But my band is close.

  • you think your band is close to the blue devils? hahahaha thats funny

  • That really is funny.lol

No marching band can amount up to the power or technique of any drum corps.

  • well the thing is people say a marching band can

never have the quality sound of a drum corps

well they can if they practiced 11 hours a day doing absolutely nothing but playing their instrument we cant do that with 2 hours a day 3 days a week u kno? for 8 weeks

  • no they still cant, marching bands would get sounds of flutes and reeds even if they did, this is solid brass.

  • yea you got a point. and trombones

no matter how they try they will never be in tune

  • Yeah maybe in the middle school you play at. However, I can probably play more in tune than you can.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think I can play better than you.

I KNOW I can play better than you.

    HS- 1st trombone, 3 years.

Three I's in District Solo competition, in Classes C, B, and A. Four time Morehead State Band Clinic qualifier, one-time top honors band. You rag on any of those stats, and prove your ignorance.

  • Comment removed

  • TBDBITL... 225 pieces of pure brass and percussion power.

  • someone is full of himself

  • You are quite the comedian.... your band is close LOL...... This is one of the top brass lines in the world (top 3), in terms of marching youth organizations

  • I mean it's not like the Blue Devils have won the most DCI Championships in history (13)... nah :P

  • cavies have 13 to

  • They actually have 7.

  • 7 6 of the 13 were from before dci organization was created so 13

  • take out the 7 at the front and this was a reply to the reply to my first message

  • amazing and lovely.what a wonderful to listen too.just makes you cream in your pants.

  • i wouldnt go that far lol

  • You can never go far enough!

  • Makes me cream my pants too, no worries.

  • I love this fucking video

  • Oh.....my....god....

  • this video never ceases to send chills up my spine.

  • i love these fukin dynamics

  • I had a question about space chords. someone told me you just pick any note and crescendo when pointed at. another person told me pick any note from the Bb scale. which is it?

  • It's definitely any note, not just Bb scale.

  • thank you

  • i wish my band director would get another new tuba...

  • wasn't the competition in pasodina this year?

  • im not even a BD fan, and FUCKING LOVE this warmup!! i think i may have just converted....

  • Wow there's a lot of comments here. Now there's 99

  • *facepalm*

  • How stupid are you?

  • Hahahah! Good joke man! lmfao

  • That release at 1:55 and the entrance at 1:57 gives me chills every single time i listen to this vid

  • i have to agree

  • wow, that's tight.

  • This is awesome. I wish I was there to hear it in person 'cause that hornline is HOT!! If it gives me chills watching the video I probably would have passed out if I was there!

  • what abnd is this? i hear people saying blue devis but idk if its duke or another blue devils?HELP!

  • lol

  • Yah kid, this has nothing to do with college basketball :) It's not the Duke Blue devils thing. This is Drum Corps.

  • this is actually a middle school band if you didn't know.

  • Lol middle school band

  • LOL yea right. i highly doubt that a middle school band could play like this. the music sounds like winged victory too =]

  • i am a middle school band director. i only have my kids for two years! maybe if i have them for ten, we could possibly do it.

  • i'm a high school student currently enrolled in the marching band, which is a great experience. if you had students for 10 years im sure that you would be able to instruct them well so that they could play this very good. but generally, most middle schools don't last very long so that's why i said i doubted that a middle school could play this exercise. im sorry if i offended you in any way

  • hahaha

  • Hahahahaha!! Have you seen Duke's band.... not sure if they compete as a college band or a middle school band lol PASSdPUCK this is SCI (Drum Corps International) In other terms their the best of the best when it comes to marching band.

  • @akarandomxhero your a dum ass

  • @akarandomxhero So umm, those husky dudes with beards on Tuba are in middle school?

  • @akarandomxhero So since when did middle schoolers play this well? Since when were they the same size in height as adults? And why does the conductor look like THE Blue Devils Brass instructor?

  • Its a drum and bugle corps. They work separately from schools.

  • yah kid, this has nothing to do with college basketball :) It's not the Duke Blue Devils thing. This is Drum Corps.

  • @PASSdPUCK blue devis is a drum core and think of as like profestional marching band like you have to be legit to get in it fooo

  • I like how the camera is near the low brass, sounds cool.

  • GO Brian Howard!! Whoa!

  • DCI and WGI are so awesome, i swear if i had the money i'd go for it, but i'd risk putting my career on hold and i dont think my boss would let me take 2-3months off from work lol

  • I WANA BE A BLUE DEVIL!!!!

  • Do it!

  • did I hear the close encounters of the third kind theme in there around 1:25?

  • yes you did

  • is that at peirce college?

  • a park down by the rose bowl

  • Fuckin A!!!!

  • ehh.... it's soo much better live,

    i feel spoiled.

  • Holy Shit

  • I absolutely love the sound of this warm up we do something similar in class.but yours is the bomb.

  • I nearly shit myself at 2:08.

  • i wonder how many car alarms that they have set off with the big hit at 1:57......

  • 2:45 my favrotie throughout the show

  • That was a amzing sound at 2:00 for these guys, but the whole warm up is something else.

  • the big hit at 1 57 sounds like some one is getting hit by a mac truck its awesome

  • i know huh!!!haha my sister freakin lauhged when she heard that!

  • my speakers nearly blew out... cuz you can't listen to drum corps with the sound down. :)

  • Hey Guys, what to say!!!! awesome, unbelivable!!!!

See the BD closer in Pasadena was one of the most exciting experience in my life, the excelence and the intensity of the Brass and Percussion is something that I can not find words to describe.

I hope someday to host BD here in Brazil for a week workshop It will be an enormous pleasure to share this experience with another friends.

    Brazilian Fan

    Ronald

  • 1:42 those are called space chords my friend

  • can anyone tell me what kind of notes everyone plays at 1:42. is it just different notes in a chromatic?

  • "pick a note"

  • haha, is that all it is? just pick a random note on the spot?

  • yessir... that simple. we'll usually pick a note that isn't far from the note we will resolve to.

  • Huh...crazy cool sound :)

We tried pick a note....no go :( Lol oh well...

  • Low brass kicked the shit off that...

  • that space chord to the big unison hit at 1:57 gives me so much energy!

  • BLUE DEVILS horn line could blow the bark clean off a tree , amazing stuff

  • i would hate to march a contra!

  • why?

  • thier freakin heavy and huge!! thier like 55 lbs to throw up on your shoulder at attention. i march trupmet.. you can see why there is a difference.

  • haha true, idk what contra feels like, yet. but i hope to go out for jersey surf and march contra. i march a 4/4 yamaha for high school

  • Nothing wrong with a contra. They don't expect you to do that right away, well at least in our band we don't. We have strengthening drills, and yeah, we have horn manuals where we throw the horn on our shoulder, and if your left shoulder doesn't hurt after a while, you're not doing it right.

  • In corps if you can't hold the horn then you are cut, simple as that.

  • you are so rite rainman

  • damn son

  • so in the beginning are the just lip slurs or no...

  • Not all are lipslurs

  • Those Contras are sickening

    its all about the tubas

  • true that

  • I'de tap that.

    Alot.

  • my high school marching band uses bd's warm ups. they are incrediblely wonderful.

this one's space progression. it's definately my favorite. this or shotgun. oh blue devils.

  • Cool! Like a huge, horn organ!

  • our marching band plays most of the blue devils' warmups just cause they sound cool

but there is NOTHING...i swear NOTHING like the real BD hornline

  • this is the craziest warmup ever

  • Blue devils horn line will always be the most powefull hornline on earth!!

  • a low b flat was always my goal

  • i literally got horny listening to this

  • *their

  • They're contra section is delicious!

  • O O O O

O . O O . O OOO OOO O HOLY MOTHER! it sounded like a friggin song at the beginning, then I realized it was a warm up and I was like... wOH!

    like... woh...

    ~Chan

  • oh my god, this is sweet! i love the echo when they are doing their space chords. it gives you a small idea on how loud they are really playing!

  • cavacontra you a re fucking idiot just shut up.... it is clearly ivedent that you have no life and your exsistince here means nothing... go die

  • yeah so in other words cavcontra...FTC

  • and yes I compeletely agree i dont know what crass means but certainly out of tune

  • haha, so is your goal in life to go to all of the bd video's on youtube and taint them with your stupid ass comments. yeah, you're right, cadets don't compare... they're crass and out of tune.

  • they're = cadets are .... if anyone was confused XD

  • yeah too bad they still lost. get over it

  • Gino Cipriani was a blue devil. (he is now the horn instructor at Cadets...) They are both incredible horn lines with a rich tradition of excellence. It would be an honor to march with either hornline. winning is only a one night experience. Performing stays in your memory forever and brings chills to your skin for years to come. I loved my time with the blue devils as a contra player and will always respect the cadets. You I don't know and don't respect....

  • the bds are amazing.

  • Well done BD. Well done. 1:58 is HOLY SH*T!

  • This warmup is great, but I like the other "space chord" warmup better. Solid performance, anyway.

  • We still have the other one, I just think John was holding onto it for Finals night. Too bad there's no vid of that night on YouTube. Best warm-up ever!

  • the more i watch this the more it grows on me, i miss the old space music progression though

  • i love it when you guys warm up

  • hell yea. That was BOSS!!!

  • 1:56 just amazes me. Completely blows my mind.

  • i love chord exercises but damn these are incredible! my friend was in their horn line this year, congrats Blue Devils!!!!

  • sweet jesus man... sweet jesus

  • fuck yea man, space chords are the best!!!!!!

  • yeah, i went to finals and watched almost every drumline warm-up. I really wanted to see BDs horn warm up though!!!

  • yeah i was freakin there. that night. i watched this. i got my fcae ripped off. SOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!
