Author G. D. Grace agrees with @angrydotcom -- this does dig a little deeper. It's quite refreshing too. I also agree with the "pretty" themed concept surrounding most stories but, after witnessing this, I believe there are writers out there who are trying to add more "reality" and less "fantasy" to the literary/cinematic plots. Bravo....

I agree the whole subject has been overworked. However, this work seems to be attempting to dig a little deeper. I like the idea of really exposing the thought process of the "DL" man. However, like all other Black gay themed films I've seen, I grow tired of everyone being attractive.... everyone having a great body...every pretty man attracting another pretty man.....THAT is not reality.

@LONGSKEET I think we all deal with the pressures of living in heterosexist and homophobic societies in different ways as black gay men, without detracting from such struggles, this DL " phenomena" is really not that deep, it's just a cultural take on lying. Though a pretty face and good body is not always the reality, it's what we wanna see let's face it.

I agree, its what the public wants to see. I just think if you are trying to open the eyes of the public to a subject not talked about or exposed previously...then I would think more "realness" would be in order. I think what I'm trying to express is my disappointment with the pretty and gloss that these films took...right from the start. I could see if the story was told from the realness perspective and then eventually gravitated toward the fictional.

Plus if i want to see average or less than average African American males i will watch a documentary about the DL not a movie etc..guess they need more documentaries. Also they could have more diverse representations of the black male i suppose...

Perhaps you hit the nail..maybe their haven't been enough documentaries. I'm concerned with the fact that the majority of str8 people, especially Black women, tend to form their opinions about the subject from these movies and the fictional books that are popular. That's in addition to the issue I'm having with the depiction of Black gay males as always beautiful and so "sex in the city" (Noah's Ark) while most major networks are still showing the most baffonish characters.

I must say that this is some of the best literary work that I have seen. It is time that we get un-REALITY Shows off the air and get back to REAL issues like this. The Donovan character is a definite A+++ and both characters made me feel as though we were simply invited to watch their lives play out. This is a GREEN LIGHT. Go for it. We need more like this and like KARDASHIANS UGH!!!
