R.I.P hickstead you will never be forgotten Eric had trust in Hickstead and Hickstead had trust in Eric its amzing how Hickstead cleared some of those jumps and didnt run out at them when Eric was turning him so tight but thats trust its not something you can have straight away you have to earn it and thats what theyve done built up trust in eachother and thats why there such a great pairr x

@mnagmobile1 He was NEVER forced to do anything, Hickstead loved what he did and he did it so amazing because he loved it. Eric rarely ever whipped him, I NEVER once seen him. He carried a crop because thats part of english attire in professional show jumping.

Too bad that when 15 year old Charlie the carriage horse died Oct 23 while working (just like Hickstead,) there were no thoughts of condolences, no out poring of sympathy for his driver- just a picture of poor dead Charlie taken by a Radical Animal Rights Activist and posted on the internet. Lots of rants saying that just being a carriage horse had killed Charlie. Godspeed Hickstead, and Godspeed Charlie- he wasn't famous, & isn't forgotten

@116jewel My husband told me Sunday afternoon that a Canadian show jumping horse had died in Italy. I'm a big fan of show jumping, all nations. I'm trying to think of which horse this might be. Hickstead never came to mind, as Hickstead is ageless timeless, and will always be our Canadian Champion. I went on the computer to inquire. I saw Hickstead falter, then fall down. I saw him struggle, but once he laid his head down on the ground, and flailed his legs, I knew he was gone. SOOOOO sad.

@116jewel I've been watching videos of Hickstead jumping, and in one of the videos, Eric brings him in close to a jump and Hickstead jumps over the post at the side of the jump, never mind just the rails! Cleared it like he had wings!!!! My God, what a horse!!! Winged like an angel. (Perhaps Pegasus reincarnated!?!?)

Isn't it strange. If this beautiful horse would have just gone out to pasture I would have never heard of him. Or if he would have been the tenth place. His jumps were achingly beautiful. This is how I will get to know him. By seeing his last moments first.

What an inspiration for all! The Secretariat of horse jumping has died yesterday! Always sad to see such a champion die. Very very sad... But he gave everyone so much, such a hero!!! Hope Eric Lamaze will find the strengh to go through this. My sympathies!

@jgin465 15 isn't old for jumping! These horses have to come a long way to become world class jumpers. Race horses start racing at 2, their legs are shot by the time they're 4. Jumpers are brought along much more slowly. They don't start competing at any important level until they're about 8. And if they have talent at jumping, they're not asked to do world class until they've had many years of education and experience. Big Ben was over 20 when he retired!

Yes, children die every day, but this horse died doing what he loved.
