"The One I Love" is a song by American rock band R.E.M. It was released on the band's fifth full-length studio album, Document, and also as a 7" vinyl single in 1987.(Wikipedia)
You can't see much of him, but somehow you can just tell that it's Gracey behind the drums. Here's to even BETTER times guys!!!!!! It's gonna be great :o)
Seen live about 30 times and they are still awesome. I love the person who posted this! I would give my right arm for a legit copy of "Death of a Dictionary"!
so this is the plan, we are going to get married. we are not signing a pre-nup and if it does not work out, i hope you have a great lawyer, as that tape is MINE. lol. J/k :)
@jayciv - I have a friend who owns a recording studio and he converted it to digital for me. I'm sure you could find a place that can do it for you. Not sure how much it would cost.
Hi, I think this show was November 87. I was at this show with my girlfriend who is now my wife. I am pretty sure that this show was advertised in high school, so the only year I would have been dating my wife (ha!) and still in high school is the 87/88 school year. Furthermore, I remember it being on Thanksgiving night or the night after. Perhaps the other possibility is that it was Easter night. I remember working around some holiday family situation to get to Temple Beth Israel in York.
I agree with some prior comments about the claim that this footage dates back to 1985. There's the fact that REM's "The One I Love" wasn't released until 1987. But also, consider the fact that "Public Affection" didn't do much touring or anything until the late 80s. So, this video is likely from sometime in the range of 1987-89. Great video, though. Love the band and seen them twice in concert.
Wow! This is a find! Thanks for posting. Ed is still perfectly on key...I tell u that boy was born blessed. Patrick to this day plays like that. Adam is so little and cute! I wish we could see a little closer up. Whoever shoot the original footage must be from York.
@sellingthemystery That would be me...older cousin of the guitarist, knew them fairly well back then...blew my mind when I stumbled on this vid a month or so ago, was always told the master tape was lost...it is '87 for sure, I remember what car I owned/drove to the gig...and I'm fairly certain it was later in the year, but '87 for sure...
Actually somebody on Live forum made a good point about The One I love was actually released year 87. Maybe they just got the year wrong here then. Nevertheless. Public Affection played pretty dang great and Adam was such a sweetie in the audience.
OMG look at those baby faces. Love the song. This video is awesome!! Thanks for posting it. I love LIVE or whatever name they use at anytime! Just got Radiant Sea - it's great. I can't get the new songs out of my head. My son played "Radiant Sea" over and over in the car coming home from school, obviously he thinks that song rocks too!
What a cool video. Nice to see Adam making an appearance as well :-) Thanks for posting it. I can't wait to get my hands on Radiant Sea. To C & C -Keep rocking you guys!
My 2nd favorite band playing a cover from my favorite band. Nice....

I have an original tape of Death of a Dictionary. I keep it in my safe. I never played it because I'm afraid the tape deck might eat it.

I've ALWAYS been afraid every tape player I've ever had would eat/break/etc. every tape I've ever had.
I believe that CD's are an INFINITELY superior medium.
