I have venus in pisces square neptune, and oddly enough this has happened to me too, also with books! It's interesting that you compare both experiences; one seems an unconditional gift (anonymous), the other, not so much. In my case, they came from Taureans and second house sun natives who often spout that people "don't appreciate" presents they've given. So I think it probably has more to do with the other person, and that you were just having a brief nasty transit on the day. Chin up!
