This is poor, You can teach this trick in 10 mins to anyone. What made it easier for him was his ability to edit the video which makes it even less impressive. What is cool is how he handles the cards but as a magician he is pretty poor.

These false shuffles can be done.. but clearly Ricky Jay isn't doing them at the first of this video. As others have already pointed out at the 00:30 mark the camera cuts away and then when it comes back he is spreading the cards with a different hand. In other words he is using a pre-arranged deck for the rest of the video.

What I like about RJ's performance is that it's very easy to understand without verbal assistance. However, I would not call him "the" master, and I believe "a" master would be more appropriate. Considering that most of these sleights are taught in SWE's books, I would say that no one in the future will be "the" master of card manipulation unless they create something very significant. I'm not trying to hate on RJ, he's one of my favorite magicians and this is truly an excellent performance.

How does he get the A thru 5 seperated to begin with? He/they edited out a chunk of film, without question. He spreads the cards initially with his right hand (all face down), then they show him grabing the the A-5, face up with his left hand, instantaneously after. There is a clear gap where editing occurs @ 0:31.

I guess when you really want to square a deck up like he's doing in this video (ie. real shuffles not false) you need camera cuts.

It takes time to learn , but as you can see he just puts the cards on top of the rest (not between) , so when he slides them togheter perfectly they just end at the top , and from they they are pretty easy to get them where you want.

I'm thinking it was the wind off that king when he snapped it up that caused the card to shift. There's just no way you could stop the camera, replace the piles of cards in precisely the same positions, and re-start it without seeing jumps in not only the cards, but Ricky's body as well. If he even breathed during the cut, we'd see that jump as well.

Assuming that it's not a trick, the shuffles that he performed at the beginning of the routine were false shuffles that were by all definitions perfect. The briefs must have been incredibly small because he clearly squares the deck flush. Yet, despite his ability to perform perfect false shuffles, he choose to use a much less convincing triumph shuffle at the end? Makes no sense.

What I was talking about though was the weird thing at 2:15 where the card on the left seems to move by itself. That looks a bit fishy but can't be a camera cut because only that one card jumps but nothing else does.
