This show was always inconsistent. I have seen parts where contestants won without deserving. This is one such segment. The category was "Things that are insulated" The clue was Thermos. A thermos is not insulated...it insulates. She should have said "juice in a thermos......"
@buddy2cda You mean "a thermos' contents" ("in a " would get buzzed), a (warm) house, good gloves, etc. I understand your point though. The judges definitely weren't perfect, but so is life.
No, she's my 1/2 sister... But she's only a but she's close to my moms age! Lol!!!
Our Dad remarried a much younger lady (my mom...) my twin sister and I were born when my Dad was 50... But my twin sister and I were in the audience w my Mom & Dad and they went up on stage when she won! I wasn't because I had to pee and wasn't up front in time to go up, lol! Devistating to an 8 year old! Lol
Ok. I hope u get this. I wasn't trying to multiple postings. My iPhone just did some wierd flickering and repeated my posts or it looked like it? Sorry bout' that. :D
((and I had been holding it for 2 hours during the taping so I could go up when she won...but I was told I had plenty of time to "pee" even if she DID win.....)) Imagine my surprise and devistation as a lil girl conning back to see them onstage without me! ROFL
Do you have any access to the last part of that clip - so I can see the video of my Family getting introduced? (my moms gone now and it would be nice to see...) Thanks
@Republicanmanner I hate to ask if your mom was Carrie mentioned above, but saying your moms gone now,.... The look on Carrie's face of joy and surprise was sweet. The longer 4 minute link with the family is replacing the "v=" number/letter code above with LGhKYTwlG88 and the original1988 show which she qualified just got posted: 6P_Q3nDGKtE is the video code. I hope that this helps.
yea - back then you had to get the wording close to exactly...as great at summer 1988 was pyramid's departure was sad...the revived family feud w/ ray combs replaced it
It airs next week and then the $100,000 Pyramid unfortunately goes back to the spot it started at since its return this past March and the $25,000 Pyramid will later be doing the same thing.
Not to ruin any surprises, but I am almost 100% positive that it will air tomorrow. Carrie was on today for her 2nd try, both her and Al tied at $500. Carrie won the coin flip, and returns tomorrow to play again. I have seen the full episode years ago in New Years Eve, and Teresa was over the 1st half during the show and gave an illegal clue, but I think the score was EXTREMELY GOOD!!!! The first 2 shows of the tournament, Henry was the only one in the circle.
I would be very curious to know when this show was taped. It must have been taped six months before it aired. I do believe The $100,000 Pyramid ceased production before the $25,000 Pyramid did.
This was the second to last episode of Pyramid before it was cancelled to make room for Family Feud, which premiered on July 4, 1988. I remember it vividly - I wished that they never cancelled the series because Dick Clark is what made the Pyramid the show that it was. The series could have continued for several more years and proved to be very popular. John Davidson had no shot of a long tenure because everyone associates Pyramid with Dick Clark. It is a shame because it had good ratings.
Presumably, the last $100,000 Pyramid was taped like weeks before the last $25,000 Pyramid. On the last 25K Pyramid, Dick didn't say anything about 100K Pyramid continuing like on the previous CBS finale.
Except it didn't. There must have been a technical malfunction at the switcher that prevented the $300 box from disappearing and the $100,000 graphic appearing. Because the camera showing the $300 box was still live, the operator did not pan down to get the shot of the contestant. THAT accounts for the odd camera angle.
I was afraid I would hear the buzzer when I heard her say that, since "critic" is a form of the word "critique", which is synonymous with review. But, maybe it does not matter.
I think it is too far attenuated to be an illegal clue. I saw this for the first time like 6 years ago on GSN, and I never ever thought it was a problem. I thought it was Teresa really knowing her game.
(I still get nervous every time I hear Shelley Smith say, "curved, wet wood." in the First Tournament win!)
$100,000!

This episode aired the week of August 29 (my moms bday) thru Sept 2,1988.
The final week of The $25,000 Pyramid was aired during June 27-July 1, 1988 with Robin Riker-Hasley and Charlie Siebert as celebrities

This is Henry's second tournament loss, if I'm not mistaken.

I thought Teresa would get buzzed for sure on her saying critic.

Do you have the full episode? What does Dick say to Teresa at the end of the clip?
Does dick acknowlege anytime that this is the last tournament, last episode?
bellbm 3 years ago
If you look carefully it looks like Teresa's top popped off on the far side which accounts for some of the odd camera angles

A CRITIC'S play? She pulled one over the judges!
KoopaKid17 4 years ago 2
the judges might have seen it as a Critic reviews a play
pjkrahn0202 4 years ago 2
I was afraid I would hear the buzzer when I heard her say that, since "critic" is a form of the word "critique", which is synonymous with review. But, maybe it does not matter.
mjhunt1 4 years ago 2
That's exactly what I thought about the clue.

I don't know how Shelley didn't get buzzed...
jthweatt 2 years ago
It was not a prepositional phrase and there were no synonyms. Plus it fit in the category so it was a perfectly legal (and great) clue.
blue06lt 2 years ago
The category was "Things that are warped," and so "curved" for "warped" as a synonym is upwards of debatable.
jthweatt 2 years ago
I must admit, after reading "curved, wet wood", a perfect clue for "Things that are warped" would be "my mind"!
