John Paul Jones and Berry Oakley were my first influences in playing....but Allen Woody is WHY I play. His style changed my playing more than anything.
That was an awesome show at the old Mountain Tap - by then known as the Starlight. I loved having the guys play a couple of blocks from my house. They were so much fun to hang out with in the parking lot behind the gig.
Allen Woody, the king of bass players in the trio format. He really found his place in Gov't Mule. Long live his fat ass bass playing. Captain Al was where it was at. Playing the melody on bass like no one else. It has been eight years and I still miss him like yesterday. He made this band what it is and I am glad Warren and Matt carried on burning the torch of the great music of the Mule!!!
Beautiful. Thanks for posting. Still get a knot in my gut when I think about Woody passing. Miss him. Don't wanna sound cliche, just kinda give my personal respects. I was lucky enough to see him several times with the ABB and about 5 times with the Mule. Captain Al. I wonder what ever happened to the police car?

The "tape going out of tune" sound at 2:34 always sounded really neat to me, like psychedelic.

I got to meet Woody (Warren and Matt, too) in Knoxville in 2000; great, down to earth guys. R.I.P. Woody.
The new bass player, Jorgen is pretty kick ass too! He plays all the old and new songs soulfully/flawlessly - go see 'em and find out for yourselves!
GO MULE!
