  • The song traces back to the piquet revolts in the south during the 1840s. Jean-Jacques Aca'au was the piquet leader, and reputedly a oungan. No one knows for sure if Caroline was his wife, his sister, his daughter. But a playwright named Alphonse Piard wrote a play where she was his daughter, and his inspiration to revolt. The song's a classic.
