Garou is part of the Fatal Fury timeline/universe. It takes place after Real Bout Fatal Fury. Characters from this game appeared in KoF games too.

hello all, i love this game but find it really hard to pull off moves and combo's compared to, say, streetfighter 4.

Well to me it was all about practice; the timing on cancels in this game sort of reminds me of SF Alpha 3.

I myself had to practice a couple of hours before I could fully get the timing on various combos =/
