  • wow! have not seen this video before now...i was on that storm back then and i didn't get this nice of a view! Fantastic formation...lovin it! VERY NICE vid may I add it to my playlist?

  • @Barderella - of course you may!

  • dude lighting hit next to that car!

  • imagine if you broke down xD

  • @HotChilliSquirrel - that would suck!

  • Holy shit man. That lightning was close and you got amazing shots too of both lightning and the mesocyclone

  • this was on my birthday..... i was born 6-7-1978....... crazy storm, but GOOD lightning strikes

  • Are You NUTS or is this your Job. you need longer video dude. like 10 minutes worth or longer.

  • arint you scared to shit that this happened?

  • @XxshadeaxX - surprisingly no. To quote the movie 300 "its not fear that grips him, only a heightened sense of awareness"

  • lol gps to hell

  • look like you were in the bears cage baby!!

  • Deadly cloud to ground lightning.

  • I'm a big weather enthusiast (trained spotter with personal weather station reporting to the NWS), but...

Why the total disregard for your fellow travelers? Why not pull off at an exit to take your video?

Your driving on a wet road, in or near a storm, with one hand on the wheel and operating a camera?

Ever heard of hydroplaning or sudden cross-winds? How about vehicular manslaughter with video taped evidence?

Nice video, but I'm just saying...

  • @TheLFWX - I appreciate your concern but lets be real here. First off people should be paying attention to the weather and not driving into tornadic storms to begin with. Also, my video taping is no more a hazard than the many people who use cell phones, text, eat and read books while driving. I won't disagree with you that its not the smartest thing in the world to do...but saying I have a total disregard for other people driving is going a bit far.

  • @AeroStorm911 , Ya AeroStorm911. What he saided, I werez drivin dawn the innerstate at dis time as vell. You dun near runned me off da road into one of dem der trees. Damn near hit one, I ended up hittin one of dem der fence posts and my pour pussy kat flewded out mine winder and wen splat off the side of one of dem sheds. You is inconsiderate

  • @ILsvrwxtorchsr - youll thank me the next time you go to the bathroom and dont come back to find your cat stealing food off your dinner plate.

  • @AeroStorm911 What you did der sir is gaved me a damn near feast for my pour rat family. HEY MAW WE IS EATIN' KITTEN TONITE!

  • @AeroStorm911 ...using cell phones, texting, eating, reading, etc (even in perfect conditions)... also qualify as having total disregard. I'm sure someone who's been in, or caused, an accident involving such acts would agree. Or ask someone who works in a hospital, at a rehabilitation facility, or in police/fire services.

  • @AeroStorm911 cell phones texting eating and reading are all illegal while driving. and your video sucks btw :)

  • @TheLFWX ..... get real dude. You don't pull off the side of the road in the path of a supercell on the middle of an interstate. Take your spotter BS and leave the reporting to the chasers that REALLY know what they are looking at ;)

  • @ILsvrwxtorchsr ... nothing was said about pulling off the side of the road (take an exit). I believe real chasers have someone else in the car running the camera.

  • Last 4 CG's Were Great : P

Dang you approached that Supercell fast too : P

  • WOW... awesome structure, Adam!!! And some intense CGs too! 5/5

  • Comment removed

  • Great structure! Approaching the meso with increasing lightning strikes: you caught the progression of what it is like during a tornadoc supercell....your timing !

  • I lived in elwood off arsenal road right by 53 in tanglewood subdivision and saw it all come in. followed it out past manhattan by the arsenal to get a better look. it was def. the closest call ive ever had

  • Awesome video of this gorgeous supercell...as well as the overall texture of it...plus the nice CGs and the closeby thunderclaps heard even from inside your moving car...((videotaped right from the ''Bear's Cage''))..those really made me drool like a hungry St Bernard at a fast-food restaurant...AWESOME video here... I just love it...these I'd go for on YouTube 24/7/365~~!

  • I got a question arent supercells things that no matter what bring a tornado?

  • Not every supercell produces a tornado, but all of the most violent and powerful tornadoes do come from them.

  • i was camping during this whole thing the tornado ended up touching down less than a mile from where we were camping

  • omg i would cryyyyyy

  • I'm from wackass California, and I give you guys credit for dealing with these intense storms, we get absolutely nothing like that all year round.

We get some storms, and some tornados but no where were i live.

  • yup =)

  • Wicked lightning!

  • Wow, excellent lightning!

  • hell of a structure

  • hi adam its mike z. great video

  • The one at 0:44 might have struck a car

  • strike just after 0:34 is close

  • Amazing! This is just what I've been hoping to see, it's too bad I wasn't able to pursue the tornadoes that day up into northern Illinois like I'd wanted.

  • god it was nice to see a good video with out no screaming on it..thank you!!!

  • if it's a supercell you don't go towards it! wait, it kinda looks like halo 3

  • best video ever of lighting and a supercell! BEST B.E.S.T

  • Thank You =)

  • That is a delicious supercell.

  • i live in southern illinois near mt vernon, rual hamilton county wheres this at (what county?)

  • Near the borders of NWern Will county and Sern Cook county. That storm traveled quite a distance!

  • this isn't the core punch. there would have large hail smashing your vehicle if this was core punching.

  • True, the clip starts when I emerged from the core, which had very little hail much to my dissapointment since I love the big stuff.

  • There was little if any hail with this storm.

  • you were very lucky that the meso wasnt rain-wrapped or you could have been in some deep s*** take that into consideration next time you try this stunt

  • sick!

  • IT WAS A HELL OF A NIGHT TONIGHT

  • /watch?v=ir_vg92dpxU cool lightning vid

  • Great footage guys, lightning is pretty spectacular!. Look forward to any more video posts like this one.

  • Where is the core punch? All I see is the mesocyclone. Your title is misleading.

  • That is true, I didnt post the actual core punch but rather when I emerged from it.

  • it would suck 2 b drivin there. i would shit my pants.

  • I wanted to do this but then I was like nah :o I must watch after my pets xD Crete was untouched :)

  • whoops, i meant storm.

    sorry. :)

  • chicago seems to have at least one bad tornado each year.

    i hate it.

this tornado hit too close to home, too.

    WAY too close.

  • Hey, you could ALWAYS trade places with me...Rogers Arkansas is about 20 miles east of OKLAHOMA. neighboring Bentonville got socked 2 months ago...Fort Smith had a borderline f3 roll through downtown.

  • Good stormchasers NEVER core punch. If you're core punching, you're just an adrenalin junkie. Read Doswell's essay on storm chasing.

  • I hope that was sarcasm lol. I have read MR Doswells essay before. One mans opinion shouldn't dictate the rules. Some chasers core punch, others don't.

  • Ahhh.....and where are YOUR videos to show us how it should be done? Doswell??? HA!

    And it is adrenaline****

  • I agree with you. I am terrefied of tornadoes but I totally want to see one all at the same time!!!

  • you guys are crazy as hell

but the thrill of it must be awesome

  • what does the striated base indicate?

  • The striations are a good visual representation of the storms mesocyclone. That whole area of the storm is rotating and thus it is a true supercell thunderstorm capable of very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.

  • thanks a lot

  • what about when the clouds "go green"?

  • Theres no direct corrilation between a green sky and a tornado. The best explanation for a green sky is the way light reflects through heavy precipitation, especially hail.

  • myth.

  • I live in Griffith, IN and that tornado that day was headed right towards our area. Thank God it finally went off wherever the hell it decided to go instead of coming here.

  • he is a storm chaser, its what they do

  • Yeah....now listen closely

    #1 - You take a banana

#2 - You grease it up reaaaaaaal good

#3 - You pull down your pants.....

    #4 - ................

you get the drift. Not cool dude!

  • Man I live right by there. I was on I-57 the other day. There has been storms for three days straight here. Very nice footage.

  • Amazing to see footage of a storm I was following closely on Radar. Thanks.

  • Thats what storm chasers do.

  • Amazing what being 4 miles behind you can do! I was trapped in the core!

  • so crazy how it just stopped raining!

  • wow that was cool!!

  • im glad my hjouse is still up i live there i saw it was huge

  • awesome video bro. That lightning was insane, shocked to see the lightning didnt strike any cars on the highway. The structure of the storm is truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing...

    gerrit of severeidaho

  • That footage alone was worth it! INCREDIBLE STRUCTURE INCREDBILE LIGHTNING!

  • I used to live in Monee less than a mile from where the tornado was on the ground. It literally passed less than a mile north of the house I lived in back in 2005. I was at Stuenkel Rd and Cicero Ave. It crossed I-57 at Stuenkel and then slammed through University Park and Richton Park. One os my best friends lives in Matteson. She said she was excited and terrified at the same time.

  • we jus got missed as well in crete i got to watch the mile wide massivly huge storm jus pass me...wow nice work dude

  • you have insanely accurate footage

  • Wow, what a lightning show!!

  • That was one wild storm...

There wrere many tornado warnings for many counties around the Chicago land area.

The tornado sierns were going off, and the sky had gotten very dark.

  • That was incredible. My home is like a 10 minute drive from I57 in Frankfort. I was at work when the sirens were going off and you could feel the wind just gusting cold air and then dying out to intense humidity.

I'm just glad that no one was hurt with this one because it could've been much, much worse. Excellent footage too, I'd love to have experienced what you did today.

  • I cannot freaking believe that this thing actually passed over near me. Unbelievable....
