wow! have not seen this video before now...i was on that storm back then and i didn't get this nice of a view! Fantastic formation...lovin it! VERY NICE vid may I add it to my playlist?
@TheLFWX - I appreciate your concern but lets be real here. First off people should be paying attention to the weather and not driving into tornadic storms to begin with. Also, my video taping is no more a hazard than the many people who use cell phones, text, eat and read books while driving. I won't disagree with you that its not the smartest thing in the world to do...but saying I have a total disregard for other people driving is going a bit far.
@AeroStorm911 , Ya AeroStorm911. What he saided, I werez drivin dawn the innerstate at dis time as vell. You dun near runned me off da road into one of dem der trees. Damn near hit one, I ended up hittin one of dem der fence posts and my pour pussy kat flewded out mine winder and wen splat off the side of one of dem sheds. You is inconsiderate
@AeroStorm911 ...using cell phones, texting, eating, reading, etc (even in perfect conditions)... also qualify as having total disregard. I'm sure someone who's been in, or caused, an accident involving such acts would agree. Or ask someone who works in a hospital, at a rehabilitation facility, or in police/fire services.
@TheLFWX ..... get real dude. You don't pull off the side of the road in the path of a supercell on the middle of an interstate. Take your spotter BS and leave the reporting to the chasers that REALLY know what they are looking at ;)
@ILsvrwxtorchsr ... nothing was said about pulling off the side of the road (take an exit). I believe real chasers have someone else in the car running the camera.
Great structure! Approaching the meso with increasing lightning strikes: you caught the progression of what it is like during a tornadoc supercell....your timing !
I lived in elwood off arsenal road right by 53 in tanglewood subdivision and saw it all come in. followed it out past manhattan by the arsenal to get a better look. it was def. the closest call ive ever had
Awesome video of this gorgeous supercell...as well as the overall texture of it...plus the nice CGs and the closeby thunderclaps heard even from inside your moving car...((videotaped right from the ''Bear's Cage''))..those really made me drool like a hungry St Bernard at a fast-food restaurant...AWESOME video here... I just love it...these I'd go for on YouTube 24/7/365~~!
Amazing! This is just what I've been hoping to see, it's too bad I wasn't able to pursue the tornadoes that day up into northern Illinois like I'd wanted.
you were very lucky that the meso wasnt rain-wrapped or you could have been in some deep s*** take that into consideration next time you try this stunt
Hey, you could ALWAYS trade places with me...Rogers Arkansas is about 20 miles east of OKLAHOMA. neighboring Bentonville got socked 2 months ago...Fort Smith had a borderline f3 roll through downtown.
I hope that was sarcasm lol. I have read MR Doswells essay before. One mans opinion shouldn't dictate the rules. Some chasers core punch, others don't.
The striations are a good visual representation of the storms mesocyclone. That whole area of the storm is rotating and thus it is a true supercell thunderstorm capable of very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
Theres no direct corrilation between a green sky and a tornado. The best explanation for a green sky is the way light reflects through heavy precipitation, especially hail.
I live in Griffith, IN and that tornado that day was headed right towards our area. Thank God it finally went off wherever the hell it decided to go instead of coming here.
awesome video bro. That lightning was insane, shocked to see the lightning didnt strike any cars on the highway. The structure of the storm is truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing...
I used to live in Monee less than a mile from where the tornado was on the ground. It literally passed less than a mile north of the house I lived in back in 2005. I was at Stuenkel Rd and Cicero Ave. It crossed I-57 at Stuenkel and then slammed through University Park and Richton Park. One os my best friends lives in Matteson. She said she was excited and terrified at the same time.
That was incredible. My home is like a 10 minute drive from I57 in Frankfort. I was at work when the sirens were going off and you could feel the wind just gusting cold air and then dying out to intense humidity.
I'm just glad that no one was hurt with this one because it could've been much, much worse. Excellent footage too, I'd love to have experienced what you did today.

I'm a big weather enthusiast (trained spotter with personal weather station reporting to the NWS), but...
Why the total disregard for your fellow travelers? Why not pull off at an exit to take your video?
Your driving on a wet road, in or near a storm, with one hand on the wheel and operating a camera?
Ever heard of hydroplaning or sudden cross-winds? How about vehicular manslaughter with video taped evidence?
Nice video, but I'm just saying...

I got a question arent supercells things that no matter what bring a tornado?
Shydragon72 2 years ago
Not every supercell produces a tornado, but all of the most violent and powerful tornadoes do come from them.

Near the borders of NWern Will county and Sern Cook county. That storm traveled quite a distance!

this isn't the core punch. there would have large hail smashing your vehicle if this was core punching.
supercell1995 3 years ago
True, the clip starts when I emerged from the core, which had very little hail much to my dissapointment since I love the big stuff.
