Helping car companies may not be a terrible idea. My mother worked for a major car company for over 15 years. She told me that the company said it was really hard to sell hybrids at low prices because the government put some kind of tax on the car which makes the car more expensive in the long run. Company said government wasn't making it easy for them to sell "green" cars. Obama could make it easier for them as president by aiding car companies.

Bailing out the car companies is a bad idea. Corporations do not work for the good of the people, they work for profit. Any money given to the auto makers will go a) to the CEO and executives b) to the stockholders. There will be no way to insure that the auto companies spenda dime research.
