Your pyro teammate that didn't extinguish you could have been using a backburner; it's probably the most commonly used flamethrower out there simply because it deals more damage. When I first pulled out the pyro class I had no idea the compression blast could deflect projectiles. I figured pushing the enemy away was the last thing you needed as a pyro.
