  • I love Shelly Winter - thank you for letting us know what she did with her Oscar that she

won for the Diary of Anne Frank. This book was inspirational to me and dealing with all people

    of all kinds.. Wonderful Book.

  • For all intents and purposes, it is common knowledge that the diary was written by her father and that Anne died of typhus and not the way shes presented on the silver screen..look it up guys!!

  • @erroer1 I am staggered that the administrator of the Oscar youtube account allowed that comment to stay. Disgraceful.

  • @stevenscollege - I don't think the administrator wants to play politics with the people and posts here. If he or she did, this thread would turn into a political one, and it shouldn't be. Flag it if you don't like it. Since I don't believe what erroer1 wrote, I flagged it.

  • My god was everyone on speed? Get 'em in, get 'em out!

  • 1 dislike? Who could dislike this?

  • I love these old award videos

  • ...and she gave that Oscar to the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam, where it's still on display to this day. Now, THAT'S class, brother!

  • This is one of the all time acting talents. Legends from Charlie Chaplin to Lee Strasberg, from Marilyn Monroe to Katharine Hepburn, have all acclaimed her as their favorite, most versatile artist. Here, she was the first Oscar winner to add substance to her acceptance speech apart from merely thanking a list of people. A true legend of stage and screen, an icon among icons, Shelly Winters might be the most underrated performer of the film era. Her body of work is unparalleled!

  • @ 1:53 looks like her gown falls apart

  • Always loved Shelley Winters and had the great pleasure of seeing her Oscar for this

movie on display at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam a few years ago, which is

now a museum remarkably true to the way it looked in the film THE DIARY OF

ANNE FRANK. Miss. Winters donated her Oscar to the Museum many years ago.

  • she was so funny on Rosanne

  • So very well deserved. God Bless, Shelley Winters giving us such a talented actress and wonderful human being!

  • I saw this movie in the 5th grade at my school, it was so amazing. My whole class cried.

  • what a wonderful human being!

  • That statuette she's holding there is now on display at the Anne Frank House Museum if anyone ever plans to visit there.

  • they sure applauded for an exstensive time.. they knew who should have won,

  • Shelley Winters was a great actress, she was great in this movie and deserved to win it. I've never even heard of Juanita Moore. Sorry.

  • @ApocalypsePlough

Watch "Imitation of Life", and you'll see why Juanita should have won.

  • shelley in her memoirs said that there wre no videos or films or even kineascope of this, I hope she got to se it

  • yes! I wanted to see the clip of Shelley winning. Hopefully, the one for Patch of Blue is next :)

  • Juanita was robbed big time.

  • @sirkaliber Oh, I don't think so. I've seen Imitation of LIfe several times. By today's standards, it seems campy. Even for its day, I'm surprised by the nominations it got; Lana Turner was so over the top.

Juanita gave a nice performance, and yes, it would've been nice to see a black woman win, since there were so few significant roles for minority women in the late 50s. Ms. Moore was perfectly fine, give the material she had to work with (heavy-handed melodrama), but she wasn't robbed.

  • Juanita should have won this no question.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses Hands down Juanita Moore deserved it.

  • @gingerbreadcorpses

I agree, but who's surprised not trying to be funny, but movies about the Holocaust always seem to win at the Oscars.

  • @NJNupe1911

So long as there is genocide in the world, there will be movies about genocide, which the Holocaust was, to remind us about it, and to help us fight to recognize it and prevent it.

  • Shelley was sitting behind the beautiful Juanita Moore. Winters was a true original. A great dame and a lovely person.
