@sniperxx1230 It looks like a lot of Dads sang this song. I don't remember mine singing it, but it was certainly part of his record collection.

@Molliejam123 You're right, but McClintock is the original writer. I always try to give credit to the writer in the title.
Enjoyable!

Well, songs like this I've known since childhood. Others from years of collecting folk albums. Now I learn from other folksingers on YouTube. There's always something new to learn. Thanks for commenting, Dan.
I love wikipedia

It's a useful source of information but not always reliable.
it still sounds great
but you do know your singing the burl Ives/Pete seeger way as apposed to the haywire mac way?( due to the refrain)
thewestburykid 3 years ago
Yes. This is the version I learnt as a child.
Hey Raymond Dimple reviews his comment as also he was introduced to song during his boyhood in the 1950's by Mr Ives. Burl Ives cannot be bettered.
Take Care

Hey Raymond Dimple loves your version. He says it's better than Mr Ives so that's good enough for me.
David
Hi David
Please thank Dimple for me, but tell him that nobody sings this better than Mr Ives, who introduced me to folk music when I was a child.
I look forward to more great songs from both of you.
Great song thanks for sharing. 5***** G.G.
