i waited a long time to see a new rocky film loved 1 to 5 and the new one could have been the best one but no the film was a load of shit why he rocky he won the boxing fights in 1 to 5 but not in the new one why not .
@s42763 Because Rocky winning or losing wasn't the point, which you can tell by everyone cheering for him despite the fact that he lost. It was beyond that. It was about proving to himself that he could still do it, doing something that he loved to do one last time, and he even managed to breathe new life into the current champ.
I loved all the movies. The message is inspirational and the music is timeless. I think it's awesome that the movies our parent's (some grandparents now) watch, the same saga continues today.
After the movies attraction getting lower and lower to rock bottom with Rocky 5, Rocky Balboa was a lift to the series bring back fans and many attractions with a different story that is not about boxing but more about a heart warming and yet sad story with his relationship with his son after his wife's death and trying to find new life which ended up being a big risk and a big success bring back the Rocky series in a good way.
I do think Rocky 3 and 4 are pretty much on par though, but I think the whole thing with clubber lang was brilliant so 3 wins. 2 and 1 are about the same and not as good as 3 and 4, and then Rocky 5 was a complete failure for me and really boring, and 6 was ok at best.
Thumbs up if you would rank them in this order too.
@kooldaug I respect your opinion, but I think Rocky will always be at the top followed by balboa, rocky 2, rocky 3, rocky 4, rocky 5. I do agree that rocky 5 was a failure though.
It's sad how they're so mean to him just for being 'old'. Just goes to show all the age discrimination that goes on in the athletic world. He's still awsome though, I think he'll always be awsome.
@RetroLaydeh42 It's not only in sports though. Age discrimination happens EVERYWHERE especially in societies that is supposed to revere the elderly like in Asian nations nowadays. Which is why Rocky's story remains timeless and maybe even important for the viewers.
@Shippoyasha That's true, it does happen everywhere (I think of the workplace for example). Still, it's sad. Funny, I though Asian nations respected the elderly more so than the U.S. -- I guess they're supposed to, I think you know more about that than I do.
@RetroLaydeh42 Well, Asian kids used to treat the elderly like kings and queens only like a decade ago. The new age of kids just don't seem to hold the same kind of sentiment it seems. People are way too eager to copy off of all the negative stereotypes they see on Hollywood.
A stand up and cheer film. While in the movie theatre for the screening, I was literally cheering for Rocky as the fight was going on, as if it was a real Pay Per View bout.
Remember reading on wikipedia that Roy was offered the role of Mason 'The Line' Dixon on Rocky Balboa. That movie would have been 10 x better with Roy Jones Jr. Roys cockiness plus my favorite movie & fave actual boxer would have been awesome... Ahhh if only, if only. Still good but suits Roy better than Tarver. It's a shame Roy didn't return Sly's calls.
@samoa92 Yeah, I remember reading somewhere Sly left Jones 31 calls. I think Dixon represents everyday champions who are always put because they weren't born in a harder era. Roy Jones Jr. would have been the perfect Mason Dixon.
That Last Rocky film was THE BEST one! wow to make a script like that and make the film for $20 Million is insane! Stallone came back and made a amazing film - George Lucas couldnt with the Prequels, Spelberg didnt do it with Indy 4.. Stallone made something well great!
Both the new rambo and rocky movie did good in my opinion. They both prove that some things don't change, and are timeless. Despite the fact that an actor gets older, the spirit of certain movies are still young and fresh =).
Hey ass clowns, glad this gives some of you inspiration but this is fiction. In real life Rock y would be sitting in a chair drooling in his stew. The only bobbing and weaving he would be doing would be in the craft room.
@greyzonedocs Hmm you clown......rocky is the same age as the person playing him, which is stallone, stallone is in great shape, if rocky was siting in his a care home somwhere , why isnt stallone, he obviously did some great training to make this movie, you arrogant turd. Just because thats your future , dont mean somone like stallone you can slag off, he'll be much more respected than that of a person like you. peace .
@greyzonedocs Umm i don't know what your saying that to me for. I said about him being in great shape for his age, and not like other older people who are taking it easy.
This movie series was the reason why i started working out every single day for the past two years. Gained 2 state wrestling champ tittles . and the reason why i still strive to do better.
i fucking love all the rockys even the 5th one i just think its a great character and is a classic this movie is awsome it really has a good stroy line and is actually very belivable Go get em Rock!
actually i've heard from reviews that this was the best rocky film since the 1st one. and i actually really liked the film; it does kind of reflect a lot on the 1st film, but it's also a good way to end the film series after how badly Rocky V was...
This was much better than anyone could have hoped for really. It would have worked better if the son had not been in it, he should have been away at college or something. Talia Shire was in the first script but she didn't want to make the film.
The ending part which was the boxing match of this movie was actually real, and i couldn't believe it :o They actually fought and they were touchin' each other faces the hard way :D
To have Adrian dead in this one isnt how i would have finished up the series i would have Adrian in the hospital battling for her life as Rocky fought one last fight and had her die at the final bell.
I loved this movie, i own all 6 Rocky films but this and the first 2 are the ones i watch the most, i actually thought Rocky should have one like in the alternate ending but it still worked out, love, love, love Sly.
Rocky shows that no matter the hardships and troubles you're put through in life, if you're strong and you believe in yourself you can accomplish anything. After all, it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.

Don't get me wrong there were a few good points and moments in this film but overall this film is a failure and a disgrace to the rest of the Rocky series.
@dardrex777 I'm not a moron and as a whole this movie blows compare to the rest of the Rocky movies. I mean what the hell was the whole video game part for?? That part and the reason for Rocky to get back into the ring was retarded. And Sly also took out Talia Shire as Adrian?? I mean without Adrian it defeats the whole purpose of putting out Rocky. And what the fuck is up with the other unknown untalented B movie actors the one playing the girl from the first Rocky and his son. Bad pick!!!
@RussX5Z Sly had a harder time making this film than he did making the first one. It came from the heart... not from the hands of a studio. Sly has more than enough money. He has no motivation to get more.
Adrian was taken out to give Rocky a sense of loss. The computer thing is a reference to a computer fight done by Rocy Marcano and Ali 30 YEARS AGO... DO YOUR HOMEWORK IT'S MENTIONED IN THE MOVIE.
Also Stallone took every punch in the final fight FOR REAL and they had a real boxer this time
@dardrex777 Sorry but I still think the film Rocky Balboa is a piece of junk compare to the other five Rocky films and that is due to the plot, quality, direction of the film, the reason for Rocky to go to the ring, the picking of the characters Marie played by Geraldine Hughes was weak compared to the legendary Talia Shire and Rocky Balboa Jr. played by Milo Ventimiglia was another weak casting. The only thing worth while of the film was Stallone's authenticity of his acting and character.
@dardrex777 And having back Burt Young was another worth while of the film. And I always respect Sly's talent because I do consider that man a legend and a icon to me but as far as this film goes I think he could of done better with the script, direction, and casting of the movie. Anyhow I'm not here to argue. If you liked the film good for you. But as far as my case goes I think most movies that came out after the 20th century is utter rubbish including this film.
@RussX5Z Disagree completely. Script had some strong moments and overall on par with the first. Especially when he talks to his son or fights for his license (well written and acted). All the returning characters were good and new ones like his son were pretty solid performances (due to his direction.)
I am a film student... this film has been used in many of my classes as examples and all my teachers are industry professionals. 3 of my teachers worked with Sly.
Class ex: In my cinematography class we looked at the shots in the scene with Rocky and son. The shots strongly convey what the story is trying to say. Like this wide shot in the middle of the dialogue where you see Rocky on end of the alley and his son on the other... representing 2 ppl on different sides of the road... as in 2 ways of thinking and conflict in opposition of views.
Things like this only a director of Stallone's caliber does
@defenderDX The Rocky movies are cinematic masterpieces. Ultimate proof a low budget film can win BEST PICTURE if the script is strong and the actors perfect for their roles.
Rocky has a strong message of the underdog and the idea that we all have a dream and just want a shot to pursue it.
The new one is just as strong in that message. So what f he's old. That's an even bigger conflict of the character they clearly show as the main driving force. THE LAST THING TO AGE IS THE HEART NOT BODY!
@dardrex777 Nowadays in today's movies everything is about money marketing and what's considered popular instead of the true art and nature and emotion of acting as how it was always meant to be in the old days. And I'm pretty sure you know that. If you don't you are blind. Hollywood has become a big marketing B.S. money whore to the system. The good old days of great cinema is long dead. Anyways this is just my side of it, don't argue with me about this. Have a nice day man.
2000 through 2010 should be remembered as the decade of 80's films.... Seriously almost everything good from the 80's had a sequel, reboot, or remake.... This was the best one.... I was very surprised with how good this movie was.
I remember when this movie came out at the theater I was really depressed about a big mistake I made and I was thinking about committing suicide but when I heard Rocky say, "No matter how hard you get hit just keep moving forward." that actually prevented me from doing it
@EricVierthaler92 remember if you do it.... you only kill your body...your person/spirit is going somewhere...one of the best sayings is: don't believe everything you hear .
@Kino483 no, it ends like the first one and goes to a decision with dixon winning. then he goes to adrian's grave and he tells her "Yo, adrian, we did it." Signifying the end of the demons rocky has fought for the last few decades and has gone out on top so to speak even though he lost the fight.
This seems like a great way to spend a Saturday night! Going to go grab the CD and pop it in. Such an epic movie and series. It encapsulates life to the very emotional core of being the underdog and having no one believe in you.
13 people got hit....and couldn't move forward.

@dardrex777 What do you guys use the Rocky movies for? Like what do you study, or what references do your teachers use to show you guys off of them?
defenderDX 11 months ago
@defenderDX I'm a film student at Academy of Art.

@dardrex777 Just goes to show you don't need all this special effects and CGI to make a good movie

There should have been no sequals after the first Rocky.

I remember when this movie came out at the theater I was really depressed about a big mistake I made and I was thinking about committing suicide but when I heard Rocky say, "No matter how hard you get hit just keep moving forward." that actually prevented me from doing it

con someone plz tell me if Rocky Balboa defeats that black dude??
Kino483 1 year ago
@Kino483 no, it ends like the first one and goes to a decision with dixon winning. then he goes to adrian's grave and he tells her "Yo, adrian, we did it." Signifying the end of the demons rocky has fought for the last few decades and has gone out on top so to speak even though he lost the fight.
nastynewt420 1 year ago
@nastynewt420 so is dixon the black guy?
Kino483 1 year ago
This seems like a great way to spend a Saturday night! Going to go grab the CD and pop it in. Such an epic movie and series. It encapsulates life to the very emotional core of being the underdog and having no one believe in you.
