The presentation of this documentary is fantastic !! I saw it and it is very interesting even if I don't like the approach of Pipin Ferreras to freediving....He practise a strength apnoea and no mental apnoea.

for the purpose of film making they need to get so many different shots at those depths, from all sorts of angles, that it just wouldn't practical for them to dive, get 1 or 2 shots, surface, recover, dive again, get 1 or 2 more, surface, etc. Instead by using the sled, the divers can preserve their energy, stay down longer and get more shots done in each dive. But yes you're right, if they're using the sled to reach depths they cant do without the sled then it shouldn't count.

no limits is a stunt, not freediving. relying on equipment to take u down and back up again is not "essence" of freediving and all that other bullshit. im sure these guys are great freedivers but it seems to me like this film is all propaganda and a promotion for these 2 guys to make money. number 1 freediver in the world would b herbet nitsch or dave mullins, look up "william trubridge" for some truely inspirational fredive footage

Ocean Men is an inspiration for how I want to feel in the water. Umberto is beautiful to watch. Rare to see anyone move with such grace and economy.

Nitsch's records are impressive, but I don't enjoy watching him. I hear from people that Trubridge is a great guy. His free immersion stuff looks phenomenal. But I don't see how that takes a way from Umberto or Pipin. Even the early records of Mayol are still significant decades later.

It's personal preference. Some like monofins, some like the sled. I think reaching the ultimate depth is a worthy goal. After all, people used to think you would be crushed to death below 100m. I can tell you, new depth can be a terrifying experience.

I actually tried variable weight (not a big fan) and can tell you I have the utmost respect for those who are able and willing to plunge into the abyss in that manner. I believe you should try it before voicing such short-sighted opinions.

Ocean Men is a visually stunning film about freediving. I saw it in IMAX several times and everyone I showed it to loved it and learned a lot. Movies are made to make money. This one was never going to make much given the audience it's meant for. But yes, it is a promotion, a really good promotion for freediving.
