  • Same here. I would do almost anything to learn Dutch to sing this song, and also to go see her in Holland. *depressed sigh* And you're right, she completely looks natural in the green, almost as if she was born that way. :)

  • geweldig ook dat haar ogen van nature zo groen zijn. het geeft haar kostuum echt een extra heks demensie :P <3

  • UITSTEKEND!

  • Wooh ik dacht dat dit verschrikkelijk zou zijn, valt nog best wel mee. Het is best goed ;)

  • @Sheemasage

Het kan ook alleen maar goed zijn met Willemijn als elphaba!

  • I saw her in Germany!!! It's amazing watching her do this in more than one language. It kind of makes me want to learn Dutch just so I can sing this version. I want to see the one in Holland so badly...

  • She looks so beautiful with green skin.

  • thanks for the translation! I saw the other video with no translation and I was impressed...even more now I know what this language means

  • wow! i love this version!

  • I wish I could actually see her perform! Such an amazing, talented voice! And to play the role for three years in one language, making her the longest Elphie act in the role, she now moves on to play the role in a completely different language.... that's what amazes me. And the translation of this version is so beautiful.

  • Het duits was er hier nog niet helemaal af, maar nu wel gelukkig! (harde S)

  • OMG I wish i could see her live!! AMAZING!

  • Prachtig!

  • toveren is de allerhoogste vlucht-(Magic is the highest flight)

  • Ach.... Willemijn kan geweldig zingen dat is zeker.

En de vertaling.... nnnnnnnjaa kan er mee door...

Al met al, ik heb er zin in! XD

  • ik vind dit zo een mooie versie!

  • Beautiful rendition. It is interesting to note that most languages leave out the lyric "look to the western sky". I think the reference to the west in the literature of Oz references the great import and symbolism of the west specifically in American history, mythology and folklore. It seems to lose this meaning in other cultures and countries.

  • best elphaba ever!

  • i love this....i like how they sort of kept the song the same but gave it its own powerful meaning. i like it better than the german. This is equally good as the english. then again willemijn is my favorite (Idina, Nicole Parker, WILLEMIJN!)

  • Yaaayyyy!!!!! XD

  • 27 Oktober!!!

  • The translated lyrics, however distorted they may be, are absolutely beautiful! They are the best lyrics for that song from any of the four languages!!!! Plus, you can't deny that Verkaik's AMAZING!

  • Thank you!

  • I prefer this to "free and weightless"

  • @WickedMusicalBuffalo

    Me too. BUT

It isn't possible in Dutch. Because of the accents in the words.

It would sound very strange if the translation was>

Ik grijp de macht. Ik ben vrij en gewichtloos.

The accent is usually on geWICHTloos. But if gewichtloos was the translation.

It would be GEwichtloos. That doesn't sound normal for a Dutchman.

  • @bonenavond He said he preferred THIS version, not the German one :-) I do too, it has this 'mocking' aspect that ''defying gravity' has but 'free and weightless' lacks.

  • Ik moet hier gewoon naartoe !!! Fantastisch

  • Bijvoorbeeld de mooie uithaal aan het einde van Defying Gravity zit niet meer in het lied....

  • Waarom moeten wij nederlands altijd alle musicals vertalen??? Defying Gravity is een lied dat niet vertaald MAG worden!!

  • @Freakygleeprojectboy wat een onzin.. goed vertaald kan een lied beter zijn dan in het engels.

  • I think I just died of happiness.

  • dat is een goeie mooie vertaling zeg!! That's a good beautiful Translation!

  • OH, I just love this doubly-slow ending!!! It sounds so much more powerful and impressive. I wish the London conductors would take it that slow. I'm absolutely sure Rachel could sustain the notes long enough!!

Willemijn is also stunning!!! She looks so decided and strong, indeed like nobody "will ever bring her down"! Fantastic job!

  • I swear they were trying to kill her at the end with how slow they were going, but Willemijn, as usual, was gettin' it. She wailed on all of those notes at the end, and in her native tongue, she sounds more confident.

  • wow its a beautiful translation

  • Thank you so much. I totally prefer this to the english version. Its got a sense of magic, menace and fun all at the same time. Plus Willemijn is singing it :)
