  • Challenger, no doubt. All have like the same output and Challenger is the lightest.

  • Uhm, the Challenger is 20lbs lighter than the Charger, 4120 to 4140, the weight doesn't make any difference. Charger/300C/Challenger with the automatic are all identical in performance, only the Challenger 6-speed manual is a hair quicker.

  • @tneper Most reviews show the Challenger with the 6-speed to be slower. Most automatics are now faster... I still prefer the stick! Wish it was an option on the Charger.

  • The guys at chrysler that designed this new charger must of been under the influence of some kind of narcotics. 68-70 chargers are the best years for the charger. Sorry but a beefed up 4-door car with the charger name slapped on it just does not do it for me. Looks like an avenger on steroids.

  • The car buying public at large disagrees with you since over 426,000 have been sold since introduction - the fact is no one outside of 100 old MOPAR guys gives two craps about the name or the fact it has two doors. The Challenger has sold only 35,000 cars over two model years, a good indicator of which cars the public actually buys. Sales are the only thing that matter to Chrysler and making the Charger a two door would have been suicide for them as the Challenger's sales indicate.

  • well that is very good information you have there, you must read magazines all day long and study them for hours on end. I think old mopar guys like myself would rather go out and buy the original version of either car, or buy a project car and restore it and have a beautiful example of mopar muscle.

  • Actually I work as an analyst within the automotive industry. This information is easily obtainable. Again, Chrysler only cares what will sell now. They have to in order to survive. There is no logical business case for a two door Charger, based upon the collapse of the coupe market over the last 20 years. Very, very few have voiced any objections to the Charger name on a four door either; the strong sales of the LX series support that. The Charger "purists" aren't even a blip on the radar.

  • What's your point? Chrysler cares about as much about your input from the Mopar Nationals as Ford does from the Edsel or Model T Clubs. Your demographic isn't relevant. The sales figures are what they are and they say the LX series is a success. Facts are funny things, sir. You can't argue with the numbers.

  • No, I love my car because it is the one and only original dodge charger! If my car was heavily modified i would be running 10's or better in the 1/4 all day long. You just need to go sit behind your desk and analyze a little more while I go out on the open road and enjoy my classic MOPARS!

  • Umm, no. As usual you are wrong regarding the capabilities of a 1970 Charger. Per the 11/70 issue of Motor Trend, the Charger 383 ran a 8.1 0-60 and a 15.15 in the quarter. The 440 6 pack ran 6.9 and 14.74. The Hemi ran 5.7 and 13.73. Swingers were even slower. Look it up. Them's the facts. Not bad in their day but just because you make an old turd loud, doesn't make it fast. Any new SRT8 will crush any old Mopar in both a straight line and in the twisties.

  • Nice research efforts man!! I read that the srt8 family sedan charger runs a 13.5 in the quarter, which is not bad, but not impressive since you are comparing cars that are about 40 years older! Apparently you do not respect the old turd MOPARS, which is a shame. Who is to say my old turd was just made loud? Simple is better, which I do not have to hook my car up to a computer to diagnose any problem I may be having!! So go take your minivan down the track and let me know how it goes!!

  • Actually, the 12/05 issue of Road & Track got a 4.9 0-60 and a 13.3 in the quarter from this family sedan Charger or "grocery getter" as you called it previously. It's a shame you consider that unimpressive since the ride, handling and braking of any of the new SRT8's would leave a 1970 MOPAR a smouldering wreck on the track. Don't get me wrong - I like the old cars, I even had a 1969 383 Super Bee back in 1978. It was okay but certainly not a performance car in the modern sense of the word.

  • whatever man, just get in touch with a company that sells 4-wheel disc brake conversion kits and coil over/4 link setups for classic mopars if that is the case. For the amount of money you spend on that new so called charger, you think it would be a bit better and have 2 less doors!!

  • We are talking stock vs. stock, son. Don't even start talking about modding since the new SRT8's would still crush the old ones since the basic platform is so much more advanced and there is a huge aftermarket support network for modern cars. It is "better" in every measurable performance criteria regardless of how many doors it has or what Dodge chose to call it. Did you know every SRT8 can achieve 0-100-0 in only 16.5 seconds? Try that in your drum-braked, torsion bar suspensioned 1970. LMAO!

  • Why don't you like my DD Regal? It does 0-60 in 6.5 and 15.0 in the quarter (Motor Trend 3/97) - faster, safer and much more comfortably than a 383 Charger from 1970. Since you like to talk about mods, an underdrive SC pulley would put it in the low 14's - faster than the fabled 440 Six Pack. But I digress, since my SRT8 is much more fun. Glad you finally recognize your car for what it is and acknowledge the merits of the new SRT8's. Sadly, the only wannabe is you, son.

  • I do recognize my car as an all American classic muscle car, so thank you. My full size 7,000 pound cummins could do those times pulling a loaded trailer.. haha. The only thing i acknowledge when i am driving down the road in my charger is everyone giving me thumbs up and waving at me, and i can't even park somewhere without someone cornering me to talk about my car, so thanks again!!

  • Like anyone really cares in 2009. The 2 door market has disappeared and before you bring up the Challenger, be aware it has sold less than 30,000 vehicles since introduction, hardly a sales success. Time to cut the mullet off!

  • PS3MASTER01. Yes mate, it's a 6.1 v8 HEMI, stock 425bhp. K&M Filter and a Diablo sport chip. It's running around 450 - 460bhp.

  • I bought the SRT8 6.1 v8 last wekend, from Sherwood Park Dodge in Edmonton, Canada. Here are a few cars I've embarrassed since my purchase............. Lancer Evo, 07. All Corvettes so far. Shit cars any way, don't bother racing them any more!!! Mustang Shelby GT. Mustang GT. Infinity (supercharged). 911 Turbo. Dodge RAM SRT10. Nissan Skyline GT-R. Subaru STI-WRX. Nissan 350Z. Transam. Suzuki GSX-R 600. Toyota Lexus.

  • Although I respect the Charger for being such a badass car. I am wondering what you mean by "embarrass"? If you mean keeping up with a car, when that car thought it would kill you, then yeah you can run with all of those cars. But if you mean kill them, then you most likely got lucky, or the others weren't trying. Because most of the vehicles on your list can run even with you, and maybe slightly beat you. The 350z, TransAm, Lexus, and C4 and older vettes are the only ones you can kill.

  • The GT won't go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, your a fucking joke dude..hahhah. They go 0-60 in usually mid 5's. A super driver might get a better time in a standard. And right after 60, the SRT8 will walk away from the GT.

  • I straight up timed my gt when i mashed down on the accelarator and my watch was barely at 4 seconds when it hit 60 mph my stang is automatic no need to shift just floor it and turbo from the start and your right a STR8 might beat a 300 hp gt but thats the first of the fastest stangs jackass lol what would it do against a cobra? or boss? or terminator? or saleen? or the fastest of them all a GT500 which can be up to 550 hp need i say more ..do u have a comeback for that mr charger fanatic?

  • Buddy, professional drivers with standards can't even get into the high 4's with a stock GT. A stock GT and a Charger R/T is a good race, don't even get me started on how bad the SRT8 would rape you. I hope you record a video of you racing one night and a 6.l Hemi just rapes you completely. The HEMI's don't need to have FI, like those fucking termies or GT500s, Its all engine.

  • A SRT8 will beat a GT off the line, Pal. The R/T won't but in the long run it will walk away from you as well. Idiot mustang owners like you have no clue what your talking about. The GT500's are priced at around 60k, while a SRT8 is around 40k. If you want to take that extra cash and put it into performance, not even counting how much better the SRT8's are interior wise. The SRT8 is all engine, the GT500 needs forced induction.

  • You can't modify a charger? Yes you can, there is a twin turbo SRT8 right on the Forums I visit. You can modify anything you idiot, you can modify a go kart. Put your GT stang to 600 hp and watch the back end fuck up, but you don't understand because your a total dumbass. The Charger only has 2 muscle makes, and the rest are V6's? You do know, the Mustang has a V6 that makes 200 hp, and the Chargers V6 pushes around 250?

  • The price difference in a new GT500 and a SRT8 is about 20k. For 20k less you can get only 75 less hp, what a giant ripoff. The new GT500's are the biggest ripoffs ever, now the Termies were awesome! I never said the V6 model was a muscle car, but neither is the V6 Mustang. And the V6 Charger is faster than the V6 Mustang. Too bad the Mustangs are still in the stone age when it comes to suspension, just like there customers.

  • I own a Charger R/T, I'm pushing 350 HP and 390 FT pounds of torque. What about you? I own a 5.7l Hemi V8, mister 4.6l V8..hahaha. WS6's would eat you alive little man. A muscle car is all about big engines, loud exhausts and big cars. Your car really doesn't fit that.

A GTO is not a small car by any means, check the curb weight dumbass, it's almost as heavy as my R/T.   • As an owner of an '05 GTO, I may prefer my goat, but these are damn fine cars. Having worked on them and driven them, my only detraction was the gargantuan feel of them, but man they can come loaded w /a amazing amount of goodies. In the end I liked the Pontiac more - for me, I wanted a high power coupe.

    Keep those big ugly hoops on, it helps the Chrysler dealerships when you constantly eat up brake pads. I'd know, I've replaced quite a few pads on ghetto-fied Chargers/300s.

    Get off it, I said I liked these cars alot, I have experience with them, but I'm not looking for a large 4-door. I'm still a 25 year old kid that prefers two doors.

  • The SRT is the performance model, and it performs damn well, but I can garuntee 98% of SRT owners won't be tossing on 24s, as they hurt the performance significantly.

    So going off your statement, and how you defend your large wheel preference, I doubt you went with the SRT anyway.

  • They have improved on the 2007 model...and the 2008 is said to be even better...my 07 is a beast...while its not the fastest car in the world...you can put 5 adults in the car just fine or take it to the track and run lets just say about 12.76 and our 60 times have been as low as mid 4's
