  • Who is that? your sister?

    Jordan Hamilton

  • Come on Wisewaif et al, if you have watched the debates (which Pete pushed very hard to get, Orrin resisted) and the other campaign adds (see Pete's website) you would not have written that Pete is soft on issues. Do your homework and stop hurting Utah's only chance for peace, environmental sanity, and justic.

  • I love the ad! And... Hamongog, stop being so insulting. You are going to make douche's feel bad about themselves.

  • My brother was the first Utah soldier killed in Iraq. A SLCPD officer, SWAT team member. He left 2 kids behind at age 41 and I stand in for him now with them. Does this video have substance, will it get Pete Ashdown elected? Not likely. But I've seen worse hot air blown in the 30 second sound bites or others out there. If you want substance, research the candidates and voting records. At least the kids were pretty darned cute.

  • Is it fluff? Sure it is. Is this the only kind of thing the Ashdown campaign does? Of course not. You want to talk about fluff, let's revisit Sen. Bennett's tragic campaign, which seemed to consist entirely of billboards with these hard-hitting quotes:

    Honest. Humble. Hairless.

Better looking than Abraham Lincoln. (Just barely.)

    Able. Articulate. Aerodynamic.

    Trustworthy. Tireless. Tall.

Big heart. Big ideas. Big ears.

    Bold. Brilliant. Beanpole.

  • Pete Ashdown is my hero. His wife Robin is a trooper and their kids rock! Orrin Hatch is a douche bag and Utah voters pretty much had their heads up their rectums. Go Pete!

  • This ad isn't going to hurt anything. It's not going to sway those who are going to vote for Pete because they know they're voting for the right guy already. If anything, it'll make skeptics look at this and say "Wow. It's not another mudslinging 'HATCH RAISED PROPERTY TAX 25%' that both candidates simply say about each other. It's different."

  • I think the cement for Ashdown's supporters is pretty solidly set by now as is that for Hatch's. It's the uninformed thin-set bunch who will see this ad and go, "Babies? Well...maybe!" (and correct me if I'm wrong, but there are plenty of people whose votes are based on something as concrete as an exhortation, no? Well go after them.)

I say this with a sister just returned from Afghanistan and slated for Iraq.

Bring on the adorable babies. Good God, do whatever it takes Pete.

  • Cute, Cute, Cute!!! Brings out the best in our own hearts if we look at this and are willing to smile at the thought of the next generation having more opportunities, not less; a better world is possible, and we're working for Greta. Thanks, Pete.

  • Waif, I have to agree with you. There were many hard hitting topics that could have been touched on time and time again for the last two years. This isn't going to get votes, it will get laughs.

  • Sometimes laughter is the best medicine. Honestly, I thought "Little Bear goes to Washington" was better, but it's too long.

  • I agree. But does laughter trump fear? Can you laugh away "Vote Republican or terrorists will kill you"? Can you laugh away "Vote Republican or immigrants will overrun us"? Laughter is great, I laughed, but it won't win this election. Facts will.

  • I'm speechless. I have been really disappointed with Ashdown's campaign.

As a Democrat who's worked for the state party, I must say that Ashdown has acted like a bunny rabbit throughout the whole campaign. And this puffball silly ad just justifies my concerns.

Where is the ad of Senator Hatch's response to Hurricane Katrina? Where's the real substance? We need a real alternative who will show strength and leadership, not shoving babies in our face.

  • Lighten up. He's got pleanty of substance and has proven that time and time again.

  • Lighten up? My brother is in Afghanistan, the country is going to hell, our Senator is an embarrassment, and I need to lighten up? What good is substance if you can't be a leader, and tell truth to power?

I'm just tired of all the damn cowardice. In my humble opinion, making an add with a bunch of dumb babies misses the point when people are dying.

  • I am truly sorry to hear about your brother. I'm on your side.

My point is he has been there time and time again. This is a light hearted jingle - sometimes that's what it takes.

  • I'm sorry you were offended. I have written a longer response to you on my blog due to the character limit here.

I hope you have taken the time to look at the other seven YouTube commercials, read my press releases, and watch the debates.

  • I don't think this ad is indicative of cowardice, but I tend to agree with you. There seems to be this preconception here in Utah that "negative" campaigning will yield a backlash. Maybe. But what the hell is there to lose? Maybe it's time just to stand up and say "Look at what these people are doing! These people are driven soley by partisanship and power, and don't seem to care that our Country is going to hell."
