Touch Me had been written as Hit Me by Robbie as kind of loving taunt after a spat w/ his wife and was their 3rd biggest hit. Jim wasnt crazy about the song: No way am I going to sing those lyrics,

so they changed it.

The story according to an interview I watch with robbie goes like this. Him and jim was in LA and some hicks where hasseling jim and jim wanted to fight them. one of the guys swung at jim and and Robbie got in the way and he hit robbie. So robbie took a punch for Jim. The rumor that Jim hit robbie is completely false and even robbie denies that happened. teh interview in on the DVD the doors collection under the title dance on fire. listen to the comentary on the video section of the video.

Great performance!! Jim Morrison: often imitated, never duplicated. In all fairness though, the only song written completely by Morrison was the Title track, The Soft Parade, and Wild Child. Touch Me, Wishful Sinful among other were penned by Krieger. Good album, but Morrison was in his poetic peak with Strange Days.

Ray, Robbie, and John themselves state on their Doors dvd that it was on The Smothers Brothers show. The Doors didn't sing "Touch Me" on Sullivan. One song they did do on Sullivan was of course "Light My Fire".

In regards to musicality, well, Jim wasn't ever a musician, he's just a poet who can sing. Also he came up with his own melodies before the music was written, so Ray (organist) couldn't cover him in that department.

I agree with Koshomio! Soft Parade is a masterpiece album in every aspect. Only other pop album that rivals it's continuity in writing/performance/production is Steely Dan's "Aja." I favor the Parade though.

Amazing that they got Jim to the TV studio, standing and sober. This is the album where the doors were falling apart. I love the song but hated the arrangement. Strings and horns don't belong in any Doors song. IMHO.

Agree w/ everything you wrote. Although, I noticed that smile of Jim's, tava wrote about. This is the first TV performance of the Doors I remember watching (must have been at friend of my oldest sister's house, at five years old). This performance was got me to be a fan of the Doors (especially Jim -- his vocals, w/ him being sober, is amazing). The "Kool" cigarette ad is amusing, must have been just before cig ads were banned.

Said DVD is a copy of a laserdisc that came out in 1995, which is when the commentary track was recorded.

The Doors by The Doors was released in late 2006.

In the DVD the story was related by Ray Manzarek (AKA not the one with the black eye) but in the book it was told by Robby Krieger.
