It was a great time the 80's particularly in the East European countries. We were full of hopes and the new romantic music. The time run away but the memories of 80' stays
To say it brings back wonderful memories isn't accurate -- such a comment falls pitifully short. This track and all of the others on the New Gold Dream, 81, 82, 83, 84 album bring alive in me the feelings I first felt back then. "Anything is possible, in life" And despite politics, loss of loved ones, and any other craziness I have or may face this, this track leaves me feeling strong.
I truly love this kind of music, I really don't think this style of music is being made anymore! Romanticism is practically dead.... What sad times we live in.
@essertpitay He's in a Scottish supergroup with Mick McNeil called "Four Goodmen". I think even the original drummer from SM (Brian) plays in it sometimes.
its not stealing its sampling and its not just in house music its done in hip hop rnb pop even rock its an appreciation for a certain part of the song and if you read the cd it says contain excerpts from simple minds so its not really stealing just gaining help
hi..1st of all j apologize 4 my english!in my opinion(j love both band simple minds and U2)..there's no match ,simple minds are a better live band! mel gayonor, derek forbes, mick mcneil are better musicians compared with larry mullen and adam clayton(jim,bono,tie..charlie ,edge tie),btw j saw 15 simple minds gigs,1st 1 in 1984 and 12 u2 gigs ,1st 1 in1985! j think simple minds are a better band ,very underrated!ciao greetings from italy!
I totally agree with everything you said. I saw both bands for the first time same years as you!!!! Adam Clayton was a great bassist back in the day, very innovative. I've been to Italy , beautiful country, and women.... greetings from USA my friend.
@DeathMetalDouglas68 I heard Forbes left because he didn't like the direction Kerr wanted the band to go in. In my biased opinion (being a bassist) Forbes along with Gaynor on drums were the Simple Minds.
Forbes had a more natural chemistry w/ McGee than Gaynor. As much as I like "Sparkle In The Rain" I don't think Forbes was as influencial to the band's sound at that point. His performance on "Don't You Forget About Me" (his last recording with SM??) was pretty weak. Their later stuff he would have been moved to the backround as well. If Adam Clayton had left U2 in '83/'84 we would think they suck w/out him. Yet he's still there, his basslines are not what they were and they are a joke now.
I'm a bassist also and when Forbes was first out of the band I considered it quite a loss. Nowadays I really think that losing Micheal MacNeil on keys in '90 was an even bigger deal. Eddie Duffy does the Simple Minds bass sound more justice than Giblin intially did but those keyboard sounds are gone forever. MacNeil was not only a talented keysman but he took a lot of the synth presets and programs (I'm sure he created most of them) with him.
Who the fuck is David Quetta? or whatever he's called. Long live Simple Minds, Mick and Derek. What an awesome song. This was me, my pals, my girfriend and my VW Rabbit in 1983.....Yeahhhh! Loved it then and love it now!
This song is forever linked in my mind to the North Shore of Hawaii in 1986. I wandered into a surf shop playing this dreamy summer tune and was reminded just have far behind I had left a dreary Baltimore winter. Great memories.
Awesome voice even live! This tiny little man has such a vocal power! There is nothing like these quality and class nowadays. I think I'll have to keep listening Simple Minds all over and over again.
