If I was an atheist, God would still exist despite what I thought. Westerners are unique in that we've equated God with "I have a right to a worry free life." But it doesn't work that way.

I didn't grow up in a religious home.In public school they would play the Lord's prayer over the P.A system in the morning.Adults were allowed to bring bibles to school and pass them out to the children.I never read the bible.I did pray when thing were not going well in my life.On the farm I came very close to death a few times.Looking back at my life I should have died so many times.Yet for whatever reason God allowed me to live.As an adult I started to read the bible and go to church.

@futuremissions For biblical contradictions you can simply use google if you haven't recognised them yourself. You could also search youtube for the words "bible contradiction". The youtube user ProfMTH has some videos entitled Bible Blunders which might help you to see them. By the way, reading the bible has turned people away from the religion they were taught also. It could be the slavery, misogny, barbarism or mythical stories that turn them off. Hypocritical to peace, love and truth?

Leviticus 25:44 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves." Titus 2:9 "Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them". Exodus 21:2-6 NLT tells how long you can keep a slave and how you can you use the slave family to blackmail him to stay voluntarily.

Hatred is a better explanation for all genocide, forced servitude and bloodlust. Another explanation is that primitive people dreamt up a concept of a god to excuse all of their reprehensible actions and also natural disasters. Religion is not inherently meant to control the masses. It is a means to create meaning in a meaningless world (:P). Any religious person struggles with the fact that their existence has no inherent purpose, no inherent meaning, no inherent anything and thus God comes into the picture. God creates the illusion of meaning and that illusion is what makes people go crazy. Yes, religion over time became a means by which to control the masses, but never inherently so.

Sometimes that anger manifests itself in unbelief, or hostility towards Him. But our feelings do not determine whether God exists or not. If I was an atheist, God would still exist despite what I thought. Westerners are unique in that we've equated God with "I have a right to a worry free life." But it doesn't work that way.

I didn't grow up in a religious home.In public school they would play the Lord's prayer over the P.A system in the morning.Adults were allowed to bring bibles to school and pass them out to the children.I never read the bible.I did pray when thing were not going well in my life.On the farm I came very close to death a few times.Looking back at my life I should have died so many times.Yet for whatever reason God allowed me to live.As an adult I started to read the bible and go to church.

violent ? u wold excause me 4 saying that u haven't red it, u only heard abot it ! it has never mentioned violent 4 the seek of violent. the talk about violent in the "Quraan" always comes in " talking chain" if u like.it always talks about a problem 1st, then solution " yes sometimes its violent" and also the social, political , etc impacts of this solution. however, those who hate this book they always take the bit where violent is mentioned and bring it as evidence.

@futuremissions For biblical contradictions you can simply use google if you haven't recognised them yourself. You could also search youtube for the words "bible contradiction". The youtube user ProfMTH has some videos entitled Bible Blunders which might help you to see them. By the way, reading the bible has turned people away from the religion they were taught also. It could be the slavery, misogny, barbarism or mythical stories that turn them off. Hypocritical to peace, love and truth?

@futuremissions You mustnn't have being paying attention if you truly read it then. Try googling the words "slavery bible quote". Leviticus 25:44 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves." Titus 2:9 "Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them". Exodus 21:2-6 NLT tells how long you can keep a slave and how you can you use the slave family to blackmail him to stay voluntarily.

These are the things you won't hear a priest read in church and why children shouldn't read this book. Exodus 21:7 NLT When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.

@SpookyFan slaves as they are referring to in leviticus are not what we know of today as slaves. true the egyptians used the isrealites as slaves and that was close to our veiw today on it but slaves as are mentioned in these passages were not mistreated as americans did to theirs and if they did mistreat their slaves they were punished by God for it. slaves were more servants than slaves

If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. Passages like these are the reason the ethics of an old book are below our modern standard. You would not condone these things, your morality is superior to that of the bible I hope.

@futuremissions For vicious brutality need you look further than drowning almost an entire planet's life in a flood? God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). As you can see there are lots of examples. I'll stop with this much.

@SpookyFan okay i was a little off on my facts and u caused me to research slavery so i found this. genesis 9:25 "and he said cursed be canaan a servant of servants shall he be unto his bretheren." if you read this passage it will tell of a sin committed and so on. ok so the moral of this is that slavery is a punishment for sin

@futuremissions The moral of that is it's okay to enslave an entire people because of one sine? Do you think that's ethical? American slaveowners "justified" slavery using the verse you quoted. Regardless of that, I guess because the book says God did a bad thing (saying it's okay to have these people as slaves), it's okay with you? Again, Exodus 21:20-21 If a slave doesn't die within 48 hours of a beating him/her, it's not a sin. This contradicts the "nice" slavery you spoke of earlier.

You weren't aware of slavery until I pointed it out, then you said it was peaceful slavery, yet I pointed out beatings are allowed. Your excuse was it's fine because it was a punishment. You used the same excuse for other violent events I referred to. As long as a sin is committed, violence and slavery are okay to you. You're showing the dark side of dogmatic belief when you make such excuses.

@futuremissions To people who are not under the spell of dogma, there is no difference between the "loving punishment" you see and hatred. Hatred is a better explanation for all genocide, forced servitude and bloodlust. Another explanation is that primitive people dreamt up a concept of a god to excuse all of their reprehensible actions and also natural disasters. In this way it's similar to the witch hunts of a few centuries ago.

I don't deny you're internally experiencing something, just know that the book you use to back up those feelings is full of holes and "hateful punishment" so to say. By aligning yourself with such negativity you lower yourself to 2,000 year old morals. I think it's easier to argue for a god without relying on that shaky foundation. Religion is not inherently meant to control the masses. It is a means to create meaning in a meaningless world (:P). Any religious person struggles with the fact that their existence has no inherent purpose, no inherent meaning, no inherent anything and thus God comes into the picture. God creates the illusion of meaning and that illusion is what makes people go crazy. Yes, religion over time became a means by which to control the masses, but never inherently so.

Can i ask why you say the holy spirit and not god as a wholoe, it seems as such a willing and intelligent individual, you would just cut to the chase. I mean shouldnt you just denounce god, the holy spirit is just your emotions as conveyed to you through god, therefore isnt it god that you dont beleive in and since your not a hypocrite, i think you might want to look into what your doing.
