I like his a lot choral music eg 'Sleep', but i'm afraid i find his electronic music very disappointing. it sort of reminded me of dance music which you get in places like ibiza... very generic sorry.
Saw this at Walt disney hall in july, most epic musical concert i've ever seen in my life. Go see it when he tours with it again...it's mindblowing, like this finale!
I just had the pleasure over the summer of being apart of the Paradise Lost show in Disney Concert Hall, and this song was SO beautiful and moving to perform with such talented performers, if you ever get an opportunity to do a show with Eric, DO IT, it is pretty much the most amazing experiences you could ever have :)
@nerdtreble Tenor 1 >.< which would be soprano by any other composers standards. Seriously, working with Whitacre and singing tenor 1 increased my range significantly.
@ColinJackson69 I was 2nd alto, and it was super high too!!!!!!!! I think when he says he favors altos, he really means he hates us haha, he rights so high!!!!! our final note was like crazy high!
I'm singing this in LA in June! Can't wait! and @Monetspoppy, I'm not sure if we're supposed to share the sheet music since he is always changing and editing it, until there is a final edition, I think we're not supposed to share it or show people, or at least that was my understanding from my director, but I can check! Some of the pages in our score say first, second, third, draft, but no final draft markings.
Paradise Lost debuted in Germany in 2003, North America's Premier was at California State University Northridge on February 11, 2003. If you see this at Walt Disney Concert Hall Saturday June 25th 2011 at 8PM, dress to the 9's! After the show at Northridge Eric personally thanked everyone who still dressed nicely for a performance.
I saw this in 2007 in Passadena for their first showing and I can't even begin to describe how incredibly well done the entire production was. I walked out that night on clouds. I'd would see this over and over
I can't even explain how it felt to perform that on stage. It was just absolutely amazing. The entire show. But this had to be one of the most moving pieces.
lol...what? i'm sorry but i have to say he is incredibly versatile; the first music he worked with was electronica anyway. he only became a choral composer in college.
To answer peoples question: This is not the full recording. The song is being kept under close supervision. I am going to be part of the "Angels" or background singers and we're not really allowed to take the music out of our practice rooms...
not showin up till after the concert in June. He's bein really secure about all of this stuff and I'm surprised this is even up here... nevertheless :D
Incredible! This is the last piece in the opera? Does anyone know where I can listen to all of the music from Paradise Lost? Eric Whitacre can do no wrong!
I've listened to this song so many times and it never gets old. It is really hard to find anywhere though. Very good job. Techno and Eric Whitacre, 2 of my favorite music choices :)

if by "versatile" you mean using the same chords over and over again in every composition, then yes.
but that doesn't mean it can't be really awesome every time. ^_^
