first of all well done in benjing you inspire me to keep practing my sparing an hope in 2012 i can go fight 4 gbr like you this sundy 5 october going to fight in the london championships an i hope i fight aswell as you
only 2 of 4 judges thought she deserved points, decision could've gone either way. Do you know anything about TKD? I certainly know mine and that was clearly head kick points, and no I'm not Brit I'm Korean
Just saw her on telly in crutches. If she's desperate for another gong, she could still catch the next plane to China and be time for the Paralympics. And you can join her there too with your balls.
Of course she was desperate for a medal jackass, don't think you'd understand though, imagine you trained for 4 years for this one event, and you are out because of an oversight by a ref. Bottom line is Video refs would have avoided this whole incident.
sheriffsingh NOT SOCCER its football. You clearly ain't no sports player or fan.
I watched the match live and I thought the judges were right in awarding victory to the Chinese.
Sara was a poor loser and made a big fuss of her poor, ineffective effort, putting pressure on the judges to overturn their decision.
She was desperate for a medal no matter what, or consequences for her gallant opponent who had her (Sara) on the run most of the time. Poor show girl, bad sportsmanship.
Now let us review and reverse all the decisions in diving, boxing, gymnastics, soccer...
Taekwondo needs to modernize, video refs ftw. Glad the descision to give her the win against the Chinese woman was done, otherwise it would make the sport look very crap, like boxing sometimes where judges basically can completly decide the result, or diving where if the crowd cheers the judges score well, no cheer= low score. ANYWAY GO SARAH!! nice bronze considering.
Hi my friends of Great Britain. in first place congratullations for your athletes and medals in this games, I agreed for the decision to give to Sarah her points, and well I have to say that she is an excellent figther and as mexican I am glad that my countrygirl could have the chance to figth with her, so I'm sure that in London '12 she'll be better than in this games. Sarah reflects the courage of the british women. SALUDOS !! FROM THE STATE OF SAN LUIS POTOSI MEXICO. WELL DONE BRITAIN!!
sarah did win the match, but the result should not have been changed, because it will open a way that lead to endless arguments on some matches later on. who will pay for that?
more time to prepare? what you mean? she's been preparing herself for many years, these women have been facing each other in world cups and international events several times, they know each other, and one more thing, the Mexican is Panamerican Champ, 2007 World Champ and now Olympic Champ
for a start she didnt get time to study the videos of her mexican opponent. afterall she had never lost to her untill today. sarah thought she was going into the repechage and was studying the opponent she was meant to fight. 20 minuites isnt enough time to get yourself ready for the biggest contest of you life.
Yes, Sarah defeated the mexican twice before, but at this level the brazilian, the chinese, the norwegian, the mexican, etc everyone of them knows and has studied hers opponents long time before. The last combat between them was used by the mexican to study Sarah and based on that she changed her strategy for this combat, something Sarah would haven't seen on video cause the strategy for every opponent is different.
the mexican neither knew she was going to face Sarah, she was expecting to face the chinese until the last minute, but as she said, she was prepared to fight against anybody cause the studied her opponents long time before, and I think that's what everyone of them does
Sara fights in about 20 minutes from now............The girl ffrom Egypt has nothing to beat sarah for the bronze medal.......and "bgdmxd" go fuck yourself .... any subject for americans has to be a Race issue.........Fuck you. You are a fucking disgrace to any sport..!!
Opium smugglers? In a way I think opium smuggling DOES come into the fray when talking about Sarah Stevenson's unfair treatment.I think the Chinese judges simply wanted to pay us back for the events that took place 150 years ago.The Chinese are bit like elephants, they never forget anything, especially slights. Also, everything they do is heavy-handed and disproportionate. They're just different from us,in every sense imaginable.
Chinese judges? Did you even watch the game? And invading another country out of pure greed is so not "heavy-handed and disproportionate". This is probably the first time in Olympic history the result of a game involving two direct opponents is changed after the game is officially over and the winner has been called. Bravo! Sarah Stevenson and Britain. Maybe now FIFA can look into the questionable goal in 1966 World Cup final and reconsider who should win the match.
Take it easy pal. The world has not really changed much in the past few centuries. Only the rule-makers can bend, twist, and break the rules themselves. If you are not one of them, work hard to join them, or just suck it up! Wasting your time here arguing with plonkers will not get you anywhere.
Well, guess you are right, the world is still a jungle and social darwinism is alive and kicking. If those Chinese officials decided to sell their own athlete in exchange of a few
praises of "good sportsmanship" from their "foreign dignitaries", so that they can tell the people "what a harmonious Olympics we hosted", then f**k them. How many lessons we have to get before we learn? There is no harmony.
No,I didn't watch the game,I just heard the news on BBC.But you're wrong about this being the first time a result has been changed.Ben Johnson won the 100m in '88,but was disqualified soon thereafter. That was a good decision. But Stevenson not getting the head-kick point was the SECOND time in 24 hrs that she was denied a point. One wonders why.
Read my post again. Of course an athlete should be stripped of medal when doping is involved, and for track & field you can easily cancel a person's result if a violation is found. However, how often have you seen a contested call and the overall result reversed AFTER THE GAME IS OVER, in a sport where two direct opponents (athletes or teams) try to outscore each other to win the game (tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, etc.)? Guess some athletes are just more equal then others.
you are absolutely ignorant to compare the two incidents. ben johnson took drug, he must be stripped of the gold, chen zhong did nothing against the rules, she must not be responsible for the wrong judgement.
james, james, very sad for you to think this way.
I can only think this way cause I'm not remotely interested in sport--in ANY sport, and I'm looking forward to later today when the Olympics end and BBC can go back to covering Georgia or something important like that.
OK,fine,no Chinese judges then. But two questionable decisions going against Stevenson in 24 hours is a bit weird. But I guess judges are just human, and yes,the overturning of the initial decision is commendable.
Regarding the head-kick, the direction of motion goes sideways rather than downwards when it made contact. Of course that's debatable and it's the murky rules made by WTF that should be blamed here. Now that WTF have made a first example of overturning game outcome afterwards, let's see if they will carry out more of this "commendable" action in the future.
Oh,I see,so there WAS an identifiable reason as to why the judges did not give Stevenson a point initially. But on reflection, you're right, there IS a huge difference between a drugs cheat and the Chinese girl (who's probably feeling pretty shitty right now.)
the judges thought the contact was not "powerful" enough but I know that was clear head kick point(I'm blackbelt). I heard that in the next olympics, they're going to implement electronic hogu(body pad) system
I'm sorry but Olympic Taekwondo ( in my opinion ) is nothing like what I've been trained for the past 11 years. Do they have a rule about no blocking, no punching and no head guarding? All they do is kick and jig up and down.....am I missing something? I'm a massive fan of all martial arts but I can't watch this event. I'm a black belt student of ITF and if anyone could enlighten me about this?
I kinda get tired of hearing how much TKD sucks. I don't really care to ask how so, but no one's claiming it's not. But after this I suppose we should see more of you muy thai types here.
it all depends what you want to do with it. I trained in sport taekwondo for a few years and It never gave me much self-defense prowess other than putting me in really good shape. i'd be interested to see someone using traditional taekwondo as a martial art just to see the kind of things it omits from the "sport" version.

5 judges in the corners plus the referee did not award her any points during the bout. Were they all blind then?
Was she the only athlete that trained hard for 4 years while all her opponents were enjoying themselves on the beach and didn't want a medal too?
She's got a medal she did not deserve. Enjoy it Sarah. Enjoy. At someone else's expense.

Well WTF ,the sports version as you put, is a very impressive display of skill and speed.
But pretty useless in a fight.
ITF Taekwon-Do is a martial art with it's roots in the military.
It's focus is on survival, you don't "fight" an opponent.
ITF is much more practical, you condition yourself through hard training and breaking exercises, which are not in WTF.
In ITF training, sparring is the least important thing you will do.
