  • At risk of being labeled a troll:

are you possibly interpreting the septuplet flam-tap figure at @1:41 (the top right of page 4; the end of the swiss-army-triplet seciton) too fast in this video?

It's a tricky passage to learn~ the septuplets should continue at the same speed as the swiss army triplet immediately before them, but the accented flam taps yeild a two quarter note triplets (i think) which are throwing me for a loop...

  • What type of snare is that? a piccolo?

  • dammmm why is your snare drum so small? or is it just the angle of the camera

what brand is it too thx

  • Excellent man, do you have the partiture??

  • Pfff this guy is good!

  • Great technique....Wish all drummers would learn the correct tradiional style..I like rock but too many drummers just beat the drums, they don't play the drums...

    Very nice !!!

  • r u playing this off sheet music?

  • @Amber7Grant yep, it's a tough one to memorize. There is no meter and few melodic memorable moments. :)

  • @CaseyCangelosi

woah...ahaha welllll im jelous of ur playing now!!!!! ahaha h.a.n.d.!!

  • is this a rudimental solo or a concert solo?

  • Sound really great, and good reading skill...!

  • Yo. Can you send me music for this?

  • OMG it's awsome...i like this!!:X:X

  • lol.. whatever.

  • @HeyItsHoss i wanna see you play it ;)

  • yes!

Casey is a very good solo...I love snare drumming and I appreciate your playing.

    greatings from vesuvio!

    Leonardo

  • any tips on playing this, casey?

  • stay low and watch the phrasing. the score is very dense, which is both a strength and weakness; you want to represent everything on the page without making it sound busy and/or out of control. keep your dynamic window as wide as possible. the piece is very technical; i'd spend a lot of time outside of the piece building your facility. short answer, but hope it helps. enjoy! :)

  • is it me, or is that a pretty small snare? i like the sound it makes.

  • It's called a popcorn snare. They're usually like 10"x5.5" or so. You can find them on Steveweiss, Musiciansfriend, etc...

  • How come no accents with your left hand?

  • Are you blind?

  • dumbass...

  • Oh haaaaaaaaahaaa

    yeah.

He's a gay fish..... oh good one

This is the way you hold the sticks if you want to play a light song

  • Are you even listening to the piece? This chart is incredibly technical.

He is using a concert version of traditional grip. It is more relaxed and shows more emotion through his playing. And, obviously, it is doing something right.

You need to branch out from your marching battery idea of "conformism" and become a real percussionist.

  • @pareira1001

you are a moron, go back to jacking off over DCI videos and leave this for REAL percussionists, and get this, I march DCI

  • where can i buy this piece i mean can i buy it by steveweiss, sam ash etc..or its just available in your website? a really want to play this but im not from US

  • hey, you can buy the piece from my website. Glad you like it!

  • callage?? i think i get what you mean but you weren't there

  • I`ve noticed the you are a percussionist. How did you come to use tradicional grip. Can you play with both grips? Or do you happen play drums set as well?

Nice work by the way. Greetings.

  • I had to learn traditional grip for my drumline in collage. I go back and forth between the grips, sometimes one will help me get the right feel for a particular piece. later

  • hes a percussionist....NOOOO, REALLY? you noticed?!?!?! great observation!

  • wow...you miss the point completely. They're totally different things. You should think about why you listen to something. Consider form and composition, not just how many tricks or fast licks they can squeeze in.

  • Love the piece, and funky snare drum (;

  • What's snare drum's name and What's company made that?

  • firecracker?

  • Thanks for posting, that was really a breath of fresh air in comparison to other videos I have watched, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before. You have great musical/compositional sense, plus superb chops as well... that goes for your other videos too, keep 'em coming!

  • I love this! :o

  • Excellent, I love all the effects in there and the solo itself is very interesting to listen to. I can't imagine reading somethin like that. Great job! Is it possible to buy this piece online?

  • That was one of the best snare drum pieces I've heard, and you make it look so effortless. More than that, I enjoyed the writing; it was so musical and expressive, something very rare in most modern rudimental/classical snare drum pieces. For instance, Cirone, while a great learning tool, is never quite as cohesive as this piece is, and not nearly as fun to listen to. As a young percussionist looking out for my own repertoire choices later, I hope you keep writing great stuff, you're amazing!

  • Couldn't help but notice those are weird looking sticks... Are they Timbales sticks??

  • yeah they're really small. They're the zildjian Horacio Hernandez sticks

  • holy crap! i'm good at snare, but not that good! awesome!!!

  • Man your technique is so solid and you stay consistent with dynamics. I am definately not the snare drummer type guy, but this solo was intriguing, and you made it look elemntary. I was wondering if you wrote this piece...

  • hey, thanks very much. Yes I wrote the piece a few years back. later

  • very good, but poor technique.

  • poor technique?? you gotta be kidding me. his technique looks good to me although i'd rather use matched grip instead of traditional but that's a matter of taste i guess.

  • Sammie, to that, I say: Your ears work well, but you're obviously blind.

  • i've been playing percussion for 2 years now but i hope to continue on until im as great as u =) awesome snare solo!!! 5/5

  • ok thanks a lot. Great playing too!!!

  • Hey man i'm a percussionist my self and that littl snare sounds great for doing practicing on the go. What type of snare drum is that and what are the dimensions?

    MagiDrummer

  • Hey,

It's one of those little Yamaha pop-corn snare drums, I'm not sure of the dimensions

  • I need to learn how do that stuff

  • fantastic work, I play set but I find lately wanting to focus on my snare...the magic is making the snare sound good...after that everything will follow. Thanks for the demo.

  • Sounds good, nice moeller.

  • I usually don't like drum solos (I'm a classical bassoonist) but I was WOWED by this amazing vid. Seriously!

  • Great Playing! I like 29dave said, nice touch.

  • hi, what kind of sticks you used in this picecs?

  • Zildjian Horacio Hernandez series

  • hi, what kind of sticks you used in this picecs?

  • hi, what kind of sticks you used in this picecs?

  • hi,what kind of sticks you used in this pieces?

  • u should write more left hand accents in :P love the 3s 4s and hybrid rudiments, of course. -moonie

  • Casey, That was an excellent display of your chops. Just makes me want to practice more. What music are you reading from?

  • Hi, thanks for the compliment. This is a prelude I composed for a recital last year. You can find it at my website by following the link under "about this video". Later

  • amaaazing chops.

  • freak!

  • Great Job! I cannot wait to show your vids to my son.

  • thanks very much. Jay's videos are great, I can't believe he's so young!! Congrats.

  • As a former DCI player and still snob, that was SO well played......pure taste and class....what a pleasure to see and hear.

  • wow! thanks so much

  • Muy buen solo, cuanto cobras por clase?

  • what brand sticks to use, zilgin, vater, promark??? anyway awsome snare work!!

    Keep Druming

    Dingodrummer

  • thanks DingoD. I don't really remember what sticks those were...I think Hernadez.

    thanks again

  • I had a question on technique. With your right hand you barely used your index finger. Is that proper form, or your own adaptation? I've always been told that the fulcrum should be index and thumb, but I was wondering if that was something I had never been taught, perhaps a finesse technique. Obviously it you are doing fine with it, but I was just curious.

  • hey, thanks for the comment. Yes that grip is well known (3 point fulcrum), though I don't know if it's "proper" to let your index finger dangle like that. It works like the regular grip but the lever mechanism is further back in your hand.

  • cool snare work and great sticking bt your not reading from that chart !!hahaha

  • he is too reading, other wise he wouldn't have put it there. =)

  • hey man,nice perfomance.

  • Its like DCI for the popcorn snare drum. lol. Nice.

  • thanks mate. I watched your Mozart video, well done you sound very good.

  • You missed a couple rimshots, and there were a few times your one handed stuff wasn't very good. your sticks were too small, and i don't think that was a black swamp drum. Very musical though, and extremely inspried. 2 out of 10.

  • Ian, you only hurt yourself...

Dude I saw The 69 Eyes last night at Middle East. I was in the very front, it was not too full, and it rocked. Also, you need to look up "power thirst" on youtube, funny.

  • Casey, it's official, I'm going to steal your skills...oh who am I kidding, I'll never be that good! Great job man!
