  • セロ・ベースの達人、とゆうか巨人達と渡り歩いた、オスカー・ペティフォード、あまりに早すぎた死、"ブルース・イン・ザ・クローゼット"のナイス・スウィング! #jazzm

  • Big ups to cousin oscar!!!

  • Bud called it Collard Greens and Blackeye Peas

  • Thanks for posting - brilliant stuff! He re-tuned his cello in fourths like a bass and played melodic solos - easy to hear where Paul Chambers got his solo style from. OPs Perdido is another brilliant cello performance only available on 78s I think - can one of you brilliant youngsters get your hands on this and post it, I wonder? A comment below gives praise to Bud Powell which is fine. He did not appear here, surely?

  • I can play this song on the flute although I'm not perfect in it. Don't ask I don't have the sheet music.

  • Recorded by radio station KGO - from nearby San Francisco, California :I:

  • Great solo as the one and only Oscar can do.

  • i do this solo for my school jazz , veryyyyyy cool !

  • holy shit it sounds very similar to blister in the sun.......wonder if the violent femmes got the rift from this

  • Bud Powell on keys -- an incredible player. Love his solo!!

  • thank you! this is very special and unique record.

  • I'm transposing this to Alto Sax.

  • They had 2 cellos? Why did they need a bass?

  • This recording has OP and Harry Babasin on cello, cf. the CD "Oscar Pettiford. First Bass." IAJRC 1010

  • Actually, there's no guitar on this, the cello has the lead played by Oscar, Joe Comfort on bass... Classic Pettiford - swinging and sweet.

  • Attila Zoller plays guitar here - that's the solo bit that blows my mind.

  • One of the best bass solo ever ! Really swinging.

  • 1:27 has the most epic lick I've ever heard! haha

  • CELLO FTW!! I love this. Great proof that cello can work as a mainstream jazz instrument.

  • @kaeli8 Any instrument can be a successful jazz instrument if they just take the time to learn the vocabulary....

  • Quite good.

  • Quite possibly the greatest double bassist on this planet!!

  • @JazzMaestra you're right, the one and only maestro Oscar Pettiford.

  • @jassbo

Oscar Pettiford was amazing, wasn't he?!?!?!

  • @JazzMaestra ...Definetely up there my friend. He's killer!
