  • Thank you posting. This is one of my favorite songs.

  • simply beautiful

  • I shall wait Day and night I shall wait for your return I shall wait Because the bird that flees comes back to find lost memories in it's nest Time passes and runs, beating sadly In my heart so heavy And yet, I shall await your return The flowers fade, fire dies out The shade slips into the garden The clock weaves very tired sound I believe to hear your step The wind brings distance noises to me By my door I listen in vain c'est magnifique
  • Can some one translate into English or Turkish please...??

  • no diversity and no "modern" building without any identity,so cool

  • Thank you for posting!

  • Also a beautiful set of photos of a Paris of another time...just so elegant, so beautiful.

  • Absoluitely beautiful.

I am from a generation later but I do know most of all the great war time songs.

I heard this song the first time, while watching the great German movie ..."The U-Boast ". Tino Rossi has such a sweet, old time romantic and, enchanting voice.

It is so precious that one can come to U-Tube and find all these wonderful songs from the past.. Recent generations have no idea of what great music existed before their times. I hope they are curious enough to come and search...

  • So b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l and sooooo sad !!

Beautiful photos also !! This takes me

    back to pre-war times....

  • What a beautiful song. And if you think it was just before the WW2 started. This song just mind-teleported me, into that time...

  • so beautiful. the 20th century gave us a cornucopia of great music, the best; in my opinion; was between the wars.

  • My all time favorite recording of this classic song.

    J'attendrai toujours ton retour.

    J'attendrai car l'oiseau qui s'enfuit.

vient chercher l'oubli dans son nid.

Le temps passait court en battant tristement.

    dans mon coeur plus lourd.

    Et pourtant j'attendrai ton retour.

with English subtitles-very accurate translation. Cheers!

  • it beautiful song ,thank you

  • One of my all time favourite songs. <3 beautiful

  • The first time I heard and fell in love with this beautiful song was when I watched the movie "Das Boot". For decades I have been a fan of Tino Rossi but I was not aware of this song until then.

Like "Lili Marlene" by Dietrich and "I'll Be Seeing You" by Vera Lynnn this is a great war time melody. It brings to those who lived through those dark days tender memories of loved ones. No wonder these songs are kind of imortal.

  • SIMPLEMENTE HERMOSA

  • This was one of my mother's favourite songs. I can remember, as a child, around 1957, listening to this beautiful song on the gramophone as my mother sang along. She has been gone now for almost 10 years, but I only have to listen to this song to feel her warmth once again. I still have her original 10 inch, vinyl record, and the cover still smells of our old home, long ago. It's wonderful to hear this song again here. thank you for posting

  • ...mikor a "Das Boat" - filmben megszólal - az telitalálat.

  • This is my FAVORITE

  • Incredibly fine singing by a vastly unheralded master.

  • merci pour cette video !

  • I was raised in Canada the 50's--in the golden days of Radio-Canada AM. This song brings back such good memories I can still see my mother's ironing clothes and listening to our Zenith radio with Tino Rossi's voice filling the room!

  • Tino Rossi"s voice wonderful, and Your memories too.

  • @BrotherJulien Tino Rossi"s voice wonderful , Your memories too.

  • Our French teacher played this to our class in 1962 on an old wind up gramophone and I was hooked instantly. Later discovered the same 78 record at home (the only French language one in the house). Tino Rossi is the Man! I also love the Rina Ketty version featured in "Das Boot" and available on YouTube.

  • While listening to this wonderful music, it seems to me that I am there in 1939. Tino Rossi & Paris!

    Have a nice day.

    Dejan

  • Tout simplement merveilleux

  • Amazing!

  • divine!

  • seeing these photos with this song I just realize that life is too short not to go to Paris at least once a year... the most beautiful city in the world!

  • merci

  • thank you so much for your tino rossi. arigatou.

  • lovely

  • His voice is like velvet, thank you for posting, it's most enjoyable!!

    Maldoror

  • This song is just like time machine, bringing you back to that time, the 30s or 40s which you can only savour from documentary or filmes

    if you are young enough

  • It is one of the most beautiful melodies

I have ever heard. Its use in the film

"Das Boot" is especially poignant......a stroke of genius.

  • This song has been composed by italian Dino Olivieri in 1933,titled "Tornerai". inspired from Puccini Madame Butterfly mute choir. Tornerai da me Perchè l'unico sogno sei Del mio cuor. Tornerai Tu perché, Senza i tuoi baci languidi Non vivrò.
  • I fully agree! hear the italian version.

The trio is famous Lescano, three dutch dancers that learned to sing for living, and became Italy sensation in those times, becoming the most famous group well ahead in the '50s. look in youtube. the song is named :

    TORNERAI

  • An italian version,1939 by trio lescano and quartetto funaro together is here v=h67WLLa6uIA

  • Very nice songs abd beautiful images of that

period. well selected. To think that in 1940.

one year after this song was recorded, Hitler

entered Paris. There is a sadness in this

    song that fits the year.

  • Irresistible!

The most beautiful song ever written sung by an angel and I am in paradise.

    Thanks for the song!

  • Oh how I love this song. This version is even better than Rina Ketty's. I sent the latter to Marjorie, my "oiseau" who flew off to California. A beautiful sadness. Merci.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
