i wish i could find the mike-tim (kevin bacon)-darren storyline on youtube. mike was investigating the muder of darren's girlfriend. tim was the main suspect. darren was the son of a senator. this would be roughly 1981. in a reenactment of bacon's death scene from friday the 13th (or a reenactment of nancy loomis's death in halloween), mike lunged from the back seat of a car and slapped his hand over tim's mouth. in the commercials it looked like a horror movie preview.
These are a hoot. I was really sorry when Marsha Clark got killed off too. "She's making no sense." - "Does she ever?" "I think a stroke will do her good." "No, no, no" - "Well, maybe" Got to love Hillary and Floyd. Actually gotta love Hillary and anybody. Worst waste of a character ever when she was blown up.
How Gauche...hilarious. I also love that part about Lucille pulling the wings off flies. And the part with Floyd and Hillary. I think St. Elsewhere borrowed that Katie scene for Wendy Armstrong's bulimia story.
I read that Marsha Clark who played Hillary Bauer wrote this parody. The cast and crew liked it so much that they wanted to do it as a goof so Marsha produced this. Cool, huh? The credits are in the last segment. Don't know why wedge8874 didn't give her credit.
i never heard anything about that...the only thing i read is that the contract for the show will be up in 2009 but that doesn't mean a show is going off the air. Soap's contracts are always 2 to 3 years and then it's renewal time. I can't see CBS or P&G stopping the show...it's been on so long, over 70 years, that i think it'll keep on chugging along.
It's the contract renewal? ok yeah I didn't think it would be cancelled either I must of misread it in the TV guide which stated GL's contract would be in 2009. I understand that politics of soaps it's just I misread the article and I do hope GL continues of course I can't see it going off the air either.
I like GL but have you seen the new look of the show? I liked it before the changes! Ellen Wheeler and David Kriezman need to go! I think they should cancel it IMO!
Oh, if only it were true...I'd rather remember GL the way that it was, not the pile of dung that it is now...totally unwatchable...GL is now a skeleton (that's been picked apart by vultures)of what it used to be. I support the end of this show (something I thought I would never write/say)...Dinah as a heroine (?), Reva, Josh and Cassie (?), the murderous kid that's Cassie's son(?)...unbearable to sit thru...
ok so CHECK THIS fun fact out. floyd in this , hte dude with the leather jacket is the father of Buddy neilson. Buddy is the lead singer is a Very huge and exttreamly influential band called senses fail.if you havent heard of them then you must not like post hardcore.
I remembered reading about this parody in a soap magazine years ago (after viewing the credits in part 7) that Marsha Clark who played Hillary Bauer, wrote and produced this parody! I loved her as Hillary, she was so sweet and so funny. Guess she is also a funny writer and producer! Now I love her even more!
I do love a lot of the lines in the opening segment between Lucille, Amanda & Ben. I love Lucille going to shove her cane up a place where the sun doesn't shine, that Lucille likes flies, and that she's sleeping w/ Ben (Amanda ask Rita about that). -:)
That's hillarous about Katie Parker (Denise Pence) and all the throwouts to various P&G products & a few non-P&G products(especially "Pringles" -- she must have had a "fever")! -:) The young actress in the "perfume commercial" is the actress who played Lainie Marler. The count in the "Joy commercial" is actor Burton Cooper who played Dr. Mark Hamilton (Katie's love interest at the time).
If ONLY GL were this funny every single day. Today's GL storylines can't even be spoofed because in order for a 'spoof' to work, there would have to be a storyline to 'spoof' with characters that are well-defined and recognized (as they were in 1979-1980).
As a matter of fact, the show did do a spoof called "Misguiding Light" back in the early 2000's. It was very funny. You should do a Google search of it.
BTW, this would have been from the fall of 1979 (not 1980). I have heard of this before, now, but have never seen it. Yes, they did this for Christmas 1979. I recognize it as the fall of 1979, because that's when Lucille had supposedly been in ill health from her stroke, & she was about to find out from Brandon Spaulding about Amanda's true parentage.
WRITTEN, DIRECTED, AND PRODUCED BY MARSHA CLARK (Hillary Bauer)!!!!!

I LOVE MARSHA CLARK! When she was killed off GL, that's when the show started to suck!

I am not surprised that Marsha made this. I recently read some of her writing, and she is one of the funniest people ever!

Marsha Clark (Hillary) did a great job making this film. It was long before these parodies were commonplace. You are a pioneer, Marsha! What fun!

You got your wish. CBS has canceled the series. Final episode to air in September.

How did this "Guiding Plight" come about? What was its purpose? Did it actually air on CBS?

This is so cool and it even has CBS announcer Alan Berns announcing the parody including the sponsor tags.
