  • u rock

  • do you paint with colors?

  • wwow u ar brutall 5 from me

  • man you are awesome, such skills ! happy new year 2010 btw :)

  • that was awesome dude, how do you ink like that ?

  • ur awesome. how did u get so god at shading with a sharpie

  • I know its sped up but watching it all come together is amazing. Cant imagine the feeling of satisfaction after you were finished. Amazing A+++

  • long hair

  • waqt were u watching lol!?

  • You know, I no longer remember. LOL! I think it was a DVD of some TV show.

    -- Matt

  • oh i just read the discription, its the tv.

  • Yeah, that's why I shouldn't have the TV on while I am drawing. LOL!

    -- Matt

  • are u copying it cos you keep looking at somethin every few seconds

  • that was amazing your inking was perfect. a little constructive criticism if you make his head a tad smaller he will look a bit more muscular. other than that its great and pretty cool you can do it all in one sitting

  • some art school dees not allow you to turn your drawing paper upside down it's a bad habit...

  • And teachers tried to get me to hold my pen differently when I was in school. Art has NO rules.

    -- Matt

  • I agree 100%

  • its realy a better idea tp turn ur paper if you want to get good lines

  • yes sometimes but some teachers in art school don't allow it, which they called it a bad habit. oh well...

  • dude, is that a bristol board your drawing on or what?...nice artworks by the way...lol

  • Thanks! That wasn't bristol board. If I recall correctly, it was just regular drawing paper.

    -- Matt

  • sick

  • where do you draw your cartoons

  • I draw really good to and trust me what hes doing is hard great job

  • Matt have you always drawn with your index finger extended or did you switch to this. I don't think I have ever seen anyone draw like this

  • That's the way I have always held my pen, for writing and drawing.

    -- Matt

  • nice job

  • Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • Thats insane

  • Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • i know nothing about drawing but i know this is darn good! :)

  • Thank you very much!

    -- Matt

  • Have you ever Drawn tattoo designs for people?

  • Only once, really. A friend wanted the Empire symbol from Star Wars as a tattoo, and I drew the picture for him to give the tattoo artist to use.

    -- Matt

  • cool, that is so weird how you hold your sharpie. I hold mine similar when I draw except I don't always point my finger. lol :)

  • The problem is, I'm too poor to afford good grade paper, so I use computer paper and do my best with whatever I have.

  • That should work. The paper doesn't have to be expensive, just good paper with a smooth surface. Some papers absorb ink more than others.

    -- Matt

  • Hey Matt, two questions, what kind of marker did you use for shading. It looks something on the lines of a sharpie, but doesn't resemble it. If it isn't a Sharpie, does it leak like a SAharpie does, because whenever I want to shade in my superhero picture with a Sharpie, the black ink leaks and goes outside the lines. Keep up the good work, I'll be looking out for your comics in the near future. :)

  • Thanks for the comment! That is a Sharpie fine point. The trick to keeping it from bleeding is to use a good grade of paper, and to not press down too much when inking. I hope that helps you.

    -- Matt

  • Thanks, it did!

  • "Critics say...Brilliant"

    -Manvir

  • Thank you very much!

    -- Matt

  • cool!! are you an artist/inker from marvel/dc or any other comics? (just curious lol)

  • Hi! I haven't worked for Marvel or DC, but I still hope to do so at some point. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • good job Matt ;);)

  • Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • dude this might be weird to say but you have a very unique way of holding a pen or pencil =)

  • Thanks! :-) Many people have commented on it.

    -- Matt

  • hey matt what kind of pen di you use to ink that drawing?

  • That was a Rapidiograph technical pen.

    -- Matt

  • matt you've got skills how long does it take you to do most of your drawings and you don't really need a haircut

  • Depending on the detail involved, most of my single figure drawings for videos take anywhere from eight minutes to twenty or so minutes. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • btw, is this your latest posted drawing segment? I can't find any others

  • Hi! Yeah, I think it is. I will put another drawing video up soon.

    -- Matt

  • Excellent drawing. How long id it take you?

  • Hi! About twenty-five minutes in real-time. Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • nice drawing and i think you need a haircut

  • Thanks, and I do need a haircut! :-)

    -- Matt

  • THUNDERBIRDS MUSIC!!!!!!!! YAH!!!

  • Yay!! Thanks!

    -- Matt

  • My goodness, you're talented. I was watching the video you put up today and had to come find a video where you were drawing to see how you hold your pencil.

It is odd how you hold your pencil, but man, can you ever draw. Good job.

  • Thank you very much!

    -- Matt

  • omg did i forget to comment dam love this drawing beging venom and the punisher are my favorite guys

  • Thank you very much, Eric!

    -- Matt

  • Why aren't you in the comics?

  • Hi! Honestly, I have no good excuse. I am planning on self-publishing my own comic book, though. Thanks! -- Matt

  • nice paint is like in the comics is very good i put you an excellent

  • Thank you very much! -- Matt

  • nice drawing but, REALLY stop saying HI! and then --matt.

  • did you go to drawing school,or does it just come naturally?

  • Hi! I never went to art school, I am self-taught. Thanks! -- Matt

  • for the love of god teach me!

  • you are totally amazing O_O

  • Thanks, Sierra! -- Matt

  • it's an amazing drawing and all so I'm not trying to put you down or mock your skills, but without his coat he really looks like a sissy. I mean maybe that's just me, but when you think about it, it's just a lunatic in spandex.

  • The trenchcoat does add more menace to him, I agree. Thanks! -- Matt

  • wow, I didn't know the punisher actually looked like that. I always pictured the seemingly emotionless guy with a trench coat. anyway, awesome work, especially on the legs. I never know how to draw leg muscles. by the way, was that a deagle or some made up gun in his right hand? I couldn't make it out.

  • Hi! The gun was made up, as I am not very knowledgeable on guns. The Punisher has looked different through the years, but I went with the mostly classic look for the character. He does sometimes wear a treanchcoat, but he often snears or is shown gritting his teeth. Thanks for the comment! -- Matt

  • I like how you draw in one shot with no mess ups.I have to redraw things over and over before it comes out they way i want, and i hope you get a job in comics. You are very talented now keep up the awesome work.

    -Lonewolf889/The_Artist-

  • Thank you very much! -- Matt

  • awesome this is your job¿

  • Hi! Thanks for the kind comment! I don't draw for a living, but I hope to one day. Thanks! -- Matt

  • its not fair. you are the best at drawing those guys. you could make a face comic and people would think its real

  • Thank you for the kind comment, Gavin! -- Matt

  • I love the way you pay attention to detail Matt - I just got a video ideal, hmmmmmmm. -Larry

  • Now you have me curious! :-) Thanks, Larry! -- Matt

  • Wow, his midsection looks like a skull face - this has to be intentional, right? And by stating this, I'm most likely showing how little I know about this character, but that's okay. It's folks like you who help educate folks like me.

Another excellent drawing and drawing segment, Matt!

    :-)

  • Hi Curt! Yep, the Punisher's symbol is a stylized skull, which he wears on his chest. Thanks for commenting, as always! It is really appreciated! Yay! -- Matt

  • Good job Matt!

  • Thanks, Coey! I'm always glad to receive a comment from you! -- Matt

  • hey, could u make a video showing some tips?

  • I'm not really that good at explaining, but I may try something for a video in the future. Thanks! -- Matt

  • very,very,very good I likey!!!!!!!!!!!

could you gimme some tips for drawing?

    I like 2 draw

    and again Matt Hawes=AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!

  • HI again! I wish I was good at giving tips, but I'm afraid I am better at just drawing than explaining how I do it. Thanks again! -- Matt

  • oh well

yep youve got a unique technique

    YAY

    Super Fantastic!!

  • Thank you, Norman! I'm glad you enjoyed it! -- Matt

  • Um, as a completely untalented and useless person, all I can say is... dang! I'm consistently amazed by your drawings. You are such a fantastic artist!!!!! Next time you do a Wonder Woman, can I buy it?!?!?!?

    --Mel :)

  • Sure! Thanks, Mel! -- Matt

  • cool drawings my friend, the punisher rules!!!

  • Thank you very much! -- Matt

  • great drawing of the punishr matt

  • Thanks, Speedy! -- Matt

  • I'm curious about your technique. Have you read the How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, any anatomy books by Bridgeman or Horgarth?

  • I did read "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way" as a child. It's a good book. I've looked at some anatomy books when I was younger, but mostly I learned through observing things in art and in real life. Sometimes I think much of it's osmosis, or it feels that way. Thanks! -- Matt

  • Ah... I am friend's with an artist from the comic "Section 8". The series did not last long, plus the label is defunct. But he teach me a lot about comic book and sequential art. Also, a thing or two about inking. But alas, computers have taken over and I'm out of practice.

  • Cool drawing matt! this is the first i have seen you draw with a pincle!

  • Yeah, I thought I'd sketch it out a bit first. I used a pencil on a couple of other videos, but most of them I just drew straight with the pen. Thanks, Ryan! -- Matt

  • you rock

  • Thank you very much! -- Matt
