This hit by Roger Miller was the 64th #1 song on the Adult Contemporary charts. It was Miller's second #1 hit on this chart and the first new #1 song on this chart for 1966. This song also hit #3 on the Country & Western charts, #8 on the Top 40 charts, and #13 in the United Kingdom.
@rwells47 You're welcome. And a follow-up: The Adult Contemporary charts were still fairly new around this time. The first AC chart was released on July 17, 1961. The first #1 AC song was The Boll Weevil Song by Brook Benton.
I met a friend of a friend who was from Bristol and was visiting the US on holiday. He was a musician, as am I. Though we both played different styles ( prog metal for me and punk & nu-metal for him) we both knew how to play this song. That was a fun experience. International relations are fun!
@James0022ify you have every right to be! it is truly a fair green and pleasant land. In old Anglo-Saxon term England means = land of the angels it is just so!!!
A great song and also loved by numerous Irish fans when an Irish Showband recorded" Ireland Swings" lyrics, a trubute to many great Irish Showbands including those mentioned in the lyrics are the Freshmen Showband from Co Antrim.
l like this song, by roger miller, he had alot of hits! i liked your map of england, spotted manchester, the isle of man and liverpool where some of the GREATEST talents started. tks. for posting!

This is my most favorite thing from Mr. Miller, right next to him telling/singing the Christmas special 'Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey'.
