@Qumru I read an interview with him recently where he stated that he never put himself in contention for an Emmy, so there's your answer- he was never on the ballot.
@juniorz1 Yes I know about that, I read that interview too but I think that the people or judges of Emmy could nominate him couse he deserved to have an Emmy too, at least an Emmy. It was really very unjustice that he left without it.
Santa Barbara was an incredible soap opera because practically the entire cast were astonishingly creative & utterly passionate. This is what all television needs, in short.
Actually it looks like Dobson and Phelps were all together in the croed during dinner. I think the bad blood that has been written about was not there. Phelps was not the best thing to happen to SB, but I think she and Bridget didn't have drama the way Bridget and Howard Bailey did.
There's clearly tension between them here. The way she looked at JFP during the "ALL OF US-SHARE THIS!" was very telling. And knowing what we know about JFP now, she loves those Emmys and even more than that, she loves her Emmy speeches.
So, no, there may not have been this sweaty race to the finish line, but there was clearly tension between Bridget and JFP. Look at the way Carruthers and the other guy(Steve Kent?) were staring at them at the podium.
It should have won every year it aired. It was a fantastic show, with unforgettable characters and stories. It was worlds apart from all other daytime shows at that time. It is sorely missed.
please do you know how I can see the end of this serie? In Spain it was on air from 1987-1994 more or less, but it never could be seen the final part.We saw till episode 1600.
I loathe Jill Farren Phelps. The brilliant Bridget Dobson actually ran up the stage (around 1:46) so that Phelps' ugly ass couldn't claim credit for the work Dobson did.
Yeah, it's not nearly as tense or dramatic as many, like soaps critic Michael Logan, have made it out to be over the years. It does appear that Bridget Dobson had been elected to speak on behalf of the show. She has a flair for the dramatic, but all in all, the SB team showed itself to be a class act, as usual.
While we are dispelling myths, Jill Phelps had, in fact, served as supervising producer or executive producer for all of the 1987-88 season of SB. As supervising producer, she was in charge of day-to-day production and post-production of the show (on the set, with the actors, in editing, etc.). Then, when Bridget Dobson was kicked off the show, NBC promoted JFP to executive producer. So truth is, JFP can claim A LOT of credit for SB's first Emmy and should.
yea, and then proceeded to ruin it over the next 3 years...and then ruin Guiding Light...and then ruin Another World...and then ruin One Life To Live...and NOW General Hospital. SOMEONE TAKE THE HINT. THE WOMAN IS RATINGS POISON.
Lane Davies did so much in this drama but they didnt give him a prize. It was so unjustice ((

Jill Phelps looks like she wants to strangle Bridget Dobson. I hear the Dobsons were absolutely brilliant, but a very eccentric and dramatic couple.

Say what you will about the producers, the cast of Santa Barbara certainly got along with each other. Look at those hugs!

I just noticed that Bridget snubs A Martinez while making her way to the stage.

What a drama queen, but I thank her for creating this show! I wish I could have seen it!
And I wonder what's her thought on OLTLs A. Martinez

Wow! I never realized Bridget panned New World like she did! Way to go! And did you see the dirty look she shot JFP?! Love it!

JFP RUINED THIS SHOW...as she has several others. UGH!
Wht4BlkNC 4 years ago 3
@Wht4BlkNC Actually, Paul Rauch (and eventually Pam Long) ruined the show. JFP was fine and "got" what SB was all about.

They obviously had decided Bridget would accept- It's plain as day in the clip. Part of the reason I posted it was to dispel that urban myth.
