Truly brilliant. It must be suck a kick to play a piece like that and for it to click like that. I always imagine that when they recorded the studio version of this, as soon as the last note faded there was a pause and then an enormous cheer because they nailed it!
yes it was used for tthe tomorrows workd theme in the 90's. different version though. Like my lovely horse for Father Ted which reappered as songs of love
Maybe, if you were looking for a sappy little tune. Mr Hannon gives more than that though. To me, the laast few lines mean - Yes, the world is a dark and desperate place, so if you don't look for happiness, you won't find it. Now go out there and find it"
Not heard this for ages. Still love it, listened to it about 4 times in a row!

I cannot believe that "Billie Joe" is being mentioned in a Divine Comedy performance!

"Hey, don't be surprised if millions die in plague and murder True happiness lies beyond your fries and Happy Burgers"
See, that line wrecks the ENTIRE song :-)

Quite a bit of Jim Morrison in there.

I reckon this song would be good as a first dance at a wedding. Until it turns into the theme tune from Tomorrow's World, that is.

love this song and its not as Scott Walker as everyone thinks.
heilong79 3 years ago
Oh yes it most certainly is.
That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
It's quite obvious Richard Hawley is also heavily influenced by him too. Doesn't take away the fact he's astoundingly good.
