I was in Zambia for 6 years (1983-1988)teaching at Evelyn Hone College. Some of my students must be editors now of the Post and Daily Mail. Ano ngayon ang ginagawa ng mga Pinoy dyan?
Hi! Those who stay in Lusaka are mostly volunteers and engineers for factories. I think your colleagues are the ones who decided to stay and establish businesses in the Copperbelt area.
You mean UN volunteers? What particular areas - health? agriculture? I still consider Zambia as my second home but opportunities for my workers are more for Canada, USA and Japan. But when the break comes I'll visit Lusaka and try whatever Bemba or Chinyanja I have left. Thanks so much for your reply.
Yes, UNVs and VSO vols as well. Mostly, comm dev, capacity building, and one other pinoy UNV working for the Min of Agri. I'm a UNV as well, working as the UN physician in Zambia. Are you a teacher/professor? Or do you have another line of work? Are there still pinoys in Lusaka/Copperbelt that you still remember? They might still be here.
I used to teach journalism subjects at Evelyn Hone College. Perhaps it has been absorbed by UNZA. I was also teaching at the Management Services Board (not sure if it still exists). I was also a consultant for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Those I remember left for Canada many years ago. I am still teaching here in RP but at the same time I am deploying Pinoy workers mostly in Canada, USA and now Japan.
Ok! I think they're still offering this course at Evelyn Hone. It closed down for a few months last year but I think it's open again. Were you a colleague of Mr. Enraca? His son is still here in Lusaka. Also Dr. Ruby Correos.
