This album sometimes gets poor reviews from arty farty critics, but it's highly listenable. I'm not sure how much they practiced for it - Green plays more or less an identical solo in this to the blistering one near the beginning of Windjammer on the same album - the quirks of live jazz! Great stuff if you love your funk.
Yeah...Grant Green definitely has the same solo in both and uses his trademark licks. I do believe that Grant Green is similar to Marcus Miller in that even though Marcus' licks are the same there is an excitement in the variation and the use of them that never fails in bringing excitement.
Grant Was The Best. IT BREAKS MY HEART THAT HE LEFT US TOO EARLY. This song and sookie sookie are my favorite. with We've only just begun and some shades of green ALong with alot of others. Who was the Vibraphone man on shades of green? I think it was Hutchinson here ?
@Scio2 Speaking of the "Visions" LP....there's a great version of "Love On a Two Way Street" from that record...could someone please post it?
I was fortunate enough to both meet and see GG perform in the early 70's. Marvelous musician and person, and he's sorely missed by fans of good music everywhere.
Great post of a great track, veewee. For the story of the Fabulous Counts, find Don Waller's great article about the band in Metro Times Detroit. They could been contenders...
this is a great song. There's another version of it on the Live at Club Mozambique album, although the arrangement there is slightly different and it is played a little slower and with different instruments.
Original song was written by the fabulous Counts! Grant Green did an excellent job.

Just love the phrasing when Grant Green comes in for his solo. You can't teach that in school. The tone is amazing screamin' yet dull. Impeccable...
