Unfortunately, I think it is probably due to the fact that the quality of play in the WNBA is not up to the level of the average boys High School basketball.
It doesn't help that the WNBA season is what, like 10 games long, or that it's played in the summer when real people watch Baseball.
I almost hate to bring this up, but did you notice almost that all the star female athletes you named were either Caucasian or Asian? Do you think the marketing machine is staying away from the WNBA for reasons correlated with race?

If you lived in CT, like I do, or NC you'd care about women's college basketball. In fact some say WCB is more in popular in CT than mens. Its actually more mental and technical and less physical than mens, the way NBA was 20-30 years ago.

It's the whole testosterone estrogen thing men want to see hot chicks and i would also think woman who aren't gay want to see attractive woman (not womanish bruits playing ball).
