Paying for insurance of any kind is paying some asshole to price you out of the ability to pay for health CARE out of your own pocket. If there was no such thing as insurance or gov't subsidized care, it would cost less than 10% of what it does now. @TheNewMrCool I don't have the magazine article with me but I believe it was Time showed a group of anti-war dissenters during a Bush parade were allowed an area which was behind a chain link fence where visibility was limitied and well back from the street. @Ozlanthos Your family most likely already pays 500-600 a month on Health Insurance, depending on pre-existing health conditions in your family. In universal healthcare you don't have to pay for something that MIGHT happen. Rather it is collected in the form of taxes, which is ultimately cheaper. If you do that math, you would understand why I prefer Healthcare. Unfortunately, The US STILL does not have that form, and still sticks to health INSURANCE. We are asses.

Paying for insurance of any kind is paying some asshole to price you out of the ability to pay for health CARE out of your own pocket. If there was no such thing as insurance or gov't subsidized care, it would cost less than 10% of what it does now. Making the federal government into an insurance provider isn't going to do anything to fix that.

@treez78 Government run services aren't exactly tyranny, Treez. I see tyranny when a government unjustifiably arrests people for their beliefs/ethnicity. There was alot of that in the world, including the USA during WW2. No one seemed to care when we imprisoned the Japanese.
The constitution only defends your right to vote, freedom of speech, right to trial, right to bear arms, etc. But nothing economic wise. It is there to defend your basic civil freedoms, not economic freedoms.

@treez78 Also, I of course acknowledge that there are legal limits on the power of the federal government. There is one aspect of the new health care law (the mandate) that might be unconstitutional. But saying "it makes me want to do something I don't want to do!" doesn't answer the question. The answer depends on how the Commerce Clause is interpreted. Liberty is not absolute. The founders were wary of tyranny, but they sure as hell didn't want anarchy either.

People just disagree on what level of govt involvement is appropriate. But apparently anybody who wants more of it than you do is necessarily a communist? That's interesting. As far as the founders' intent, they disagreed plenty on these fundamental questions too. Read the Federalist Papers.
