  • she might not have the chance to win the olympics, but she gave birth to an olympic champion.

  • is thiss considered Gymnastics.?

  • @MookieCarter12 is rhythmic gymnastics, so yes, it is

  • Nastia and her mom look alot a like!!!!!!!!!! They both have that stare like they want to hurt someone though...

  • She is just okay. Many are better.

  • @ArtemisDianaSelene Well, a lot of things have changed in gymnastics since 1987, but she must have been amazing to win a world title in rhythmic gymnastics in 1987. :-)

  • They look alot alike *((:

  • same body structure as nastia amazing

  • Now I know where Nastia gets her long legs from!

  • Beautiful!!

    What is the music?

  • ummm yeah, back up rythmic gymnasts might have to twirl a long ribbon, but its not heavy. Im a level 4 gymnast in artistic and i neeed lots of upper body strenghh

  • RG has a lot of arm strength skills, although not present in this routine. Without strong stomach muscles, you can't do RG at all without getting serious injuries. Twirling a ribbon is pretty difficult because it's length make it hard to control, although for some reason Al Roker had no problem when he tried it.

If you've ever seen more recent RG competitions, they look more hardcore than back then.

  • it may not be heavy but it's really hard to control. I should know, I'm a rhythmic gymnast. and flexibility in rhythmic gymnastics is different these days. It's a lot more hardcore. & Artistic gymnasts take pages from rhythmic gymnasts for their floor routines mind you.

  • I'm just guessing Nastia's mom trained Nastia's back to be as flexible as it is. Still, Nastia's back is not as flexible as her mom's because artistic gymnasts don't have to be that flexible.

  • artistic gymnasts need flexibility as much as rhythmic gymnasts do. But artistic gymnasts have strenghth and rhthmic gymnasts probally couldnt lift a 30 pound weight

  • Although it may sound strange, rhythmic gymnasts need to be very strong. They need strong stomach muscles to support themselves and they need strong arm muscles for many skills (although those skills are more common today then back then). Also, twirling a 23ft ribbon requires a great deal of arm stregnth.

  • rythmitic gymanstics

  • whats this kinda of gymnastics called?

  • rhythmic gymnastics

  • You can see where Nastia gets her elegance from

  • Anna was a very young mother.

well. she must've been in her height of her carrer when she had nastia.

  • Well, not exactly. Anna retired after 1988. Her career peaked in 1987 but was kept in the sidelines during the Olympic season because of an injury. She retired soon after. She met Valery while on tour in the late 80's and Nastia was born in 1990.

  • um actually Nastia was born in 1989, not 1990.

  • Anna missed the 88 Olympics because of illness, not because of an injury.

  • In 1987, she didn't medal in the AA because the medalists were the Bulgarians who got perfect 40's (3-way tie for gold). Anna and her teammate Marina Lobatch tied for 4th with 39.650/40. By 1988 she had fallen behind newly turned senior Alexandra Timoshenko and Lobatch. A two per country rule (which is strange since artistic gym. implemented 3/country rule in the same year). In the Olympics, Lobatch got the gold (60/60) and Timoshenko the bronze (59.875/60).

  • I meant to say a 2 per country rule kept her out of the Olympics.

  • they should stop calling her daughter nastia, her name is anastasia.

  • Her nickname Nastia is a Russian diminutive for Anastasia

  • anastasia is her real name but she likes to go by nastia its her nick name...

  • it's pretty cool that Nastia can see what a champion her mom was :)

  • So this is only two years before Nastia was born? How old was she?

  • she was 17 here. she had Nastia when she was 19.

  • yah anna had nastia really young

does anybody know if valeri and anna were married when they got pregnant

  • Does it really matter? I'd assume having a quick google might help answer though? :)

I hadn't look at the age of Anna before, so just assumed she was around 20 when she had her, which seems fairly alright to me.

  • Anna was only 19 when she had Nastia. I wonder if thats why she retired from Gymnastics??? Anyone know??

  • I don't think it was. At least not entirely? She had/still has some medical reasons for not continuing.

I only remember reading it in an interview somewhere about Nastia going to visit her Mother in Hospital a lot. I am off the mindset, that it is their personal life and has nothing to do with me, so I didn't look into it really, or even try to remember it.

I am sure google will help you though, for what it was/is and if that was (part of) her reason for stopping :)

  • And I have just realised I am obsessed with google, it seems! LOL

As I said though, I tend not to comit too many personal things to mind, as it isn't my business really. Though some bits do stay and if it is included in something else, I do read it. (Just didn't want it to sound like anyone was "bad" for being interested :o)

  • how old was she when she had nastia?

  • @Tumble4Life123 anna was born in 1970, and had nastia in 1989, so she was 19. I don't know if her and Valeri were married when they had nastia, because I can't find any marriage date on either of their wikipedia webpages

  • They were. They got married very very young.

  • Nastia has the beauty and grace of her mother, the steel iron precision of her father and the good ol' American spirit of a Texas teen.

    The formula of a champion.

  • Nastia looks more like her mom.

& it does has the Nastia like presence.

But remember, this is nastia's MOM!

  • "Nastia looks more like her mom"? THAT'S putting it mildly! :)

  • NASTIA WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, I felt like I was watching Nastia perform. I guess we know where Nastia gets her gorgeous body from. They both make me think of ballerinas, it's almost unreal. I can't wait till the Olympics this year, Nastia is my favorite gymnast!

  • totally agree..

  • you can really tell nastia got her legs from her mom..

  • all i see is nastia lol

    I love this family

    i hope nastia wins

  • She looks like a beautiful ballerina in a music box. Breathtaking! You could see she was a champion. :) Nastia is blessed to have such gifted parents-who passed it on to their one ewe lamb. :)

  • that's so cool to watch.!

  • wow her and nastia are so simalar! both of them are beautiful to watch :)

  • uncanny similarity to nastia.... they're both so great to watch and make the sport beautiful

  • It's eerie-it's like watching Nastia almost competing back in 1987!

Ribbon is my favorite rhythmic event. :)

  • I know that Nastia's father is Kazak by birth. But what region of the former Soviet Union is Anna Kotchneva [her Mom] from? Does anyone know?

  • On Nastia's website it says Anna was born in Moscow.

  • her mum is russian (born in moscow - jan 25 1970)

  • She really looks just like Nastia!!!

    Amazing!!!

  • i always thought this routine was better than panova's but.........

  • she looks alot like nastia

  • Anna Kochneva was a brilliant gymnast, I just loved her especially in 1988 Europeans when she did a triple roll under both clubs!

Watching Natsia is like watching her mother doing AG, its bizarre but beautiful :)

  • nastia has clearly inherited her mom's legs :)

  • and her forehead ;)

  • Always fun to compare mother and daughter!

  • nastia got many talents from her mom.

  • No wonder her daughter has such lovely lines.

  • thanks for getting this on here!! ive been looking for some of her videos forever.
