@ArtemisDianaSelene Well, a lot of things have changed in gymnastics since 1987, but she must have been amazing to win a world title in rhythmic gymnastics in 1987. :-)
ummm yeah, back up rythmic gymnasts might have to twirl a long ribbon, but its not heavy. Im a level 4 gymnast in artistic and i neeed lots of upper body strenghh
RG has a lot of arm strength skills, although not present in this routine. Without strong stomach muscles, you can't do RG at all without getting serious injuries. Twirling a ribbon is pretty difficult because it's length make it hard to control, although for some reason Al Roker had no problem when he tried it.
If you've ever seen more recent RG competitions, they look more hardcore than back then.
it may not be heavy but it's really hard to control. I should know, I'm a rhythmic gymnast. and flexibility in rhythmic gymnastics is different these days. It's a lot more hardcore. & Artistic gymnasts take pages from rhythmic gymnasts for their floor routines mind you.
I'm just guessing Nastia's mom trained Nastia's back to be as flexible as it is. Still, Nastia's back is not as flexible as her mom's because artistic gymnasts don't have to be that flexible.
artistic gymnasts need flexibility as much as rhythmic gymnasts do. But artistic gymnasts have strenghth and rhthmic gymnasts probally couldnt lift a 30 pound weight
Although it may sound strange, rhythmic gymnasts need to be very strong. They need strong stomach muscles to support themselves and they need strong arm muscles for many skills (although those skills are more common today then back then). Also, twirling a 23ft ribbon requires a great deal of arm stregnth.
Well, not exactly. Anna retired after 1988. Her career peaked in 1987 but was kept in the sidelines during the Olympic season because of an injury. She retired soon after. She met Valery while on tour in the late 80's and Nastia was born in 1990.
In 1987, she didn't medal in the AA because the medalists were the Bulgarians who got perfect 40's (3-way tie for gold). Anna and her teammate Marina Lobatch tied for 4th with 39.650/40. By 1988 she had fallen behind newly turned senior Alexandra Timoshenko and Lobatch. A two per country rule (which is strange since artistic gym. implemented 3/country rule in the same year). In the Olympics, Lobatch got the gold (60/60) and Timoshenko the bronze (59.875/60).
I don't think it was. At least not entirely? She had/still has some medical reasons for not continuing.
I only remember reading it in an interview somewhere about Nastia going to visit her Mother in Hospital a lot. I am off the mindset, that it is their personal life and has nothing to do with me, so I didn't look into it really, or even try to remember it.
I am sure google will help you though, for what it was/is and if that was (part of) her reason for stopping :)
And I have just realised I am obsessed with google, it seems! LOL
As I said though, I tend not to comit too many personal things to mind, as it isn't my business really. Though some bits do stay and if it is included in something else, I do read it. (Just didn't want it to sound like anyone was "bad" for being interested :o)
@Tumble4Life123 anna was born in 1970, and had nastia in 1989, so she was 19. I don't know if her and Valeri were married when they had nastia, because I can't find any marriage date on either of their wikipedia webpages
Wow, I felt like I was watching Nastia perform. I guess we know where Nastia gets her gorgeous body from. They both make me think of ballerinas, it's almost unreal. I can't wait till the Olympics this year, Nastia is my favorite gymnast!
She looks like a beautiful ballerina in a music box. Breathtaking! You could see she was a champion. :) Nastia is blessed to have such gifted parents-who passed it on to their one ewe lamb. :)
she might not have the chance to win the olympics, but she gave birth to an olympic champion.

Anna missed the 88 Olympics because of illness, not because of an injury.

I meant to say a 2 per country rule kept her out of the Olympics.

does anybody know if valeri and anna were married when they got pregnant
NlovewithNaley 3 years ago 2
Does it really matter? I'd assume having a quick google might help answer though? :)
I hadn't look at the age of Anna before, so just assumed she was around 20 when she had her, which seems fairly alright to me.

Nastia has the beauty and grace of her mother, the steel iron precision of her father and the good ol' American spirit of a Texas teen.
The formula of a champion.
