not only the greatest stone roses song.... and theres plenty of great ones, one of the greatest songs ive ever heard. never get tired of it and never will. got me ticket for heaton park on june 30th today and i cannot wait to go.!!!!!! just missed out on spikey and i got a 2nd chance now!!
@STUKAY Yeah, I like that kind of thinking!!! I think its at least ONE of the greatest albums of all time. We need people with enough brain to quit worshiping the Beatles and give newer music some love!
@studas2011 The artwork is called Bye Bye Badman by John Squire. The lemons are said to be a defence against the mace gas used against protesters 1968, France. If I'm right : )
I can remember buying the LP when it came out, listening to it was like being hit by a fookin' 40 ton truck straight to the central nervous system, golden days.......
@reevy The song is actually about the 1968 Paris student riots..."Chokey, smokey air In this citrus sucking sunshine " is a reference to the lemons that students sucked to counter the effects of tear gas and of course there are more obvious lines "I'm throwing stones at you..."
this and sally cinamon- proper summertime tunes...a soundtrack to my school holidays..nostalgia eh it can be a bit depressing...one minute you're listening to 'this is the one' n having a laugh- the next you're worried about the mortgage...Ian Brown is king
This is one of their best ever songs... love the lyrics .. surpassed only by i am the resurrection which has the best guitar instrumental in any song with freebird lynard skynard a very close second
They Were The Best Band In The World :D.......Shame I Wasnt Born Or Around At The Time I Would Have Loved To See Them :( =] . Oh Well I Met Ian Brown And A Few Day Later I See Him Again And He Remembers Me & Thats Good Enough 4 Me :D. xxx
14 when this album came out, 34 now and still captivated by it and anything the Roses did. Shame Squire + Brown loath each other, just think what they could have come out with in the intervening years. 2 albums of unbelievable quality.
There are several layers of guitar in there so no hope of live performance. I think this is the only version in existence but it's pretty much perfect..

And the fact is Blackpool was the begininng of the end for fans that followed them around small venues promoting the album....1000s of wallies with Renis hat on.....Good for the band but crap for the original lads that discovered them.....Sheep syndrome.....and forget Spike island , whatever Noel Gallagher says we were well out of it by then.....
Sorry for being one of the sheep, perhaps you're an elitist, and when a band starts to gain a big following you look down on people who have subsequently become aware of them because they are "your band' and eveyone's spoilt i for you, Stinking thinking mate, not good.
@9wolfy9 Yea dude don't get so upset over Hipsters. They think since there music is so "unique" that it should be there own. Lets just enjoy the music.
well, I am from Brazil and down here Smiths are so popular... The Stone Roses are not at all..... Smiths and Morrissey are still nowadays in radio stations sometimes...
True. But I still have the ticket stub. I knew this was something special. My proof that that I'm not lying. I don't run into a lot of others that say they were there. I went with only seven others but knew a lot of people there; mainly locals.
hows this for a plan... as there are NO good bands left in England after Oasis split, I rekon John Squire puts down the paintbrush and replaces Noel Gallgher, and Noel Joins Ian Mani n Remi. That way we get a good band back instead of losing 1... nice idea anyway :)
probably the best! if the stone roses reformed but replaced john squire as he doesnt want to reform...i wouldnt go see them.....john is an amazing guitarist!
The incredible thing is that so many years after their last album we are still loving their work. I believe we will still be talking about the stone roses a decade from now. Ian, Alan, Gary, and John; you guys really touched on something. You were something!
Yes I agree.. 'vomitallldeals' is talking shite. Don't forget the Roses only had one guitar so it would sound shite if Squire spent all his time noodling with scales I.E: The second coming!
Throws me way back to a third floor apartment on a cold ohio winter day skipping class and watching insence stream up to ceiling disapearing in a cloud of smoke. Ah yeah! thanks for the post.
IMHO one of the best tracks off one of the best albums in the history of modern music. I will NEVER tire of listening to this for as long as my ears continue to function :-)
If only they'd do the honourable thing and get back together and tour- I never got to see them live :-(
