Don't SAVE or create any jobs that would utilize office space. And don't demolish any burned out houses. Stay focussed on destroying Detroits history so it looks like you are accomplishing something. It makes much more sense to hire one person to run the demolition machine than a crew of people to remodel the building.
@14toskr Show nothing but sarcasm no matter what people do. Don't see the positives about the fact that abandoned buildings which contribute to urban blight are some of the cause of problems just be angry and bitch. Sit back and be an armchair critic and snidely criticize instead of being involved in the process and contributing to positive change
@garycalgary Vacent buildings aren't the problem in Detroit, jeez, how do buildings cause crime, noise, and social fisfunction ?????? Vacent structures are one of the symptoms, not the cause.
The reason this 'stupid old building' is important is bcuz they dont make structures like the Lafayette bldg anymore. It was a piece of art. I for one will miss this wonderful bldg from Detroits glory days. It was a Saturday tradition for my family and I to go to Eastern Market, then go to Lafayette Coney to eat. We would always walk around and marvel at this pretty bldg.
why are you so sad about this stupid old building gettin wrecked? glad to see it go. it's just another fire trap, another piece of junk in the way of progress.
A new building, with state-of-the art electrical, heathing, cooling, lighting, communications...now that would be COOL! And, you all know it.
Be selective. Make the leftover buildings mean something besides that they were built in the 30's, 40's or whatever. This building meant nothing to me, or to any passerby, except it was another abandoned hulk. A new building, with state-of-the art electrical, heathing, cooling, lighting, communications...now that would be COOL! And, you all know it.
Tearing down an abandoned building that would be difficult to rehab, at best, IS in the best interest of any city. The history of a building has to be extremely of importance before we let EVERY SINGLE RUIN remain standing.
I was hoping this was going to be of the Coleman A Young (lol in itself) building with the city council inside...
An example of a building with alot of well lit space that was let down by an incompetent city. I guess I'll have to move to a suburb whose hub city has a higher than 25% HS graduation rate to see vintage architecture.

@6969Wolf6969 That's one fancy parking lot or deck you've described, because that is probably what will be built back, one day.

Was this supposed to happen, or are you accusing ADAMO of another mistake?
I think laughinoutloud got it right--is it a public service to destroy pieces of urban blight like this piece of junk.
NICE JOB, ADAMO BOYS!!!! Keep those wrecking crews running. Just love it.
