  • I wish the movie was more like the book!

  • wow someone needs to grow up. @GreatGranpapy

  • "Ask me anything and I'll tell you."

    ...."I don't need a ring, I don't.

This'll be my ring--and no matter what happens,

you will never ever see it off my finger."

    DAMN that's romantic!!!

  • uhhh this part is soo bogus. :(

  • @fthompson2011

    GTFO!

  • @fthompson2011

Unless you're talking about him getting arrested. In that case, have a popcorn.

  • Guy Pearce plays the jealous guy pretty damn good..this whole movie was great....I know...everyone blabs about the book..but lookit..the books are ALWAYS better...so what's the big deal. All the actors did a great job.

  • i hate when movies sre so different from their books. its ok if they are a little but this one is really different

  • Ah Edmond... he so loved his friend.. but the friend is so full of envy...

  • Mercedes kept her promise about that ring, fo' sho'!

  • Jim Caviezel is the MAN!!! He played this role PERFECT!!! Best role of his career, Jesus is a distant 2nd!

  • She seems lovely but in fact she is a bich!!!

  • @emmmanueeel Uh..how do you arrive at that conclusion?

  • never trust the emporer of france

  • what is this backround music! im in love please tell me when you find out! please!

  • isnt malta beautiful :)

  • they changed thhe movie a lot from the book! :|

  • Guy Pearce is so good at being annoying...

  • i really love this movie.........

  • Such a great movie. I need to read the book. Mercedes is so hot. Edmond is the everyman who only wants the woman he wants, and unfortunate victim of his own friend's scheme of jealousy.

  • but i still love that girl let the world know

  • ....she sayed...no thank u

  • u wana be my GF

  • BUT AS IN LOVE U LOVE U

  • LOVE U

  • hi lizz

  • MERCEDES IS GORGEOUS, AND HER VOICE WAS UNBELIEVABLY SEDUCTIVE..... Lucky Edmond

  • I've got an essay on this book tomorrow and couldn't finish the novel in time...

  • It appears that politicians were just as corrupt then as they are now

  • It's the guy from memento and the guy playing edmond is the guy from frequency

  • @300daysandnights Edmond also plays Jesus in Passion of the Christ

  • @mrIlovethe90s1 oh yeah. Mel Gibson may be a crazy bastard but dammit he knows good story structure.

  • I can't believe how beautiful that woman is! If only I were so lucky.

  • ''and whatever happens you will never see it off my finger, ever'',, that was the catch phrase for the rest of the film..

  • if any one is wondering where it was shot the place is Malta... my beautiful country

  • @strawberryice8705 I love Malta although I haven't been there.(My Mum went there)

  • oh i dont know how these type of guys can survive??

  • ahh this is soo different from the book :(

  • I LOVE this movie and I LOVE the book, however they are quite different from each other

  • @JustOneMoreOkayTwo how different? like very just a little?

  • @FearMeForIAmDeath666 Very Different. They condensed and skipped a lot from the book to make the movie but like I said. I LOVE them both

  • from the get go this is the second time i've seen the film and as i'm reading the book at the moment i can safely say i much prefer the latter. the language/etiquette in the conversation is much better and more fitting for the time! plus some characters are the same some arent and why is fernand a shipmate he wasn't in the book?? i like the fact it makes the history between dantes and him stronger which makes a bigger impact later but it was fine the way it was! bt they did cast mercedes well :)

  • Read the book; the unabridged edition. Yes, all 1500 pages of it.

  • @peytbass

are the rumors true? Is the book just as good as the movie... if not better?

  • i dont think you can find a girl like mercedes

  • @GafaVSG

sure you can. I know all sorts of girls named mercedes. Of course they're all stinking rich ,and they share the same last name... Benz

  • i dont think you can find 1 girl like mercedes

  • Remember how you got a fucking pony?

  • he was soo facking naive at the beginning of the movie!!!

  • I wish soo much that this movie was more like the book!!

  • best movie everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i've watched this movie hundred times it's getting not enoughhhh

  • i think this is the movie, where the priest in the jailmate. and ZAKALA. drift wood ????

  • I don't think someone like Mr. Clarion would show around a baton with Napoleon's head such obvious propaganda sign, with Bourbons back in power and the Emperor in the exile. 1:30

  • Damn, if only we could find girls nowadays who wouldn't mind a twig for a ring.

  • I love this movie. 5 stars.

  • @fisteberg

Oh get out of here! :\

This movie is still quite remarkable.

    Something anyone could enjoy.

  • @friendzr4eva you sure haven't read dumas!quite the opposite and don't know older versions a million ways bettter and more faitful man,you know nothing at movies of quality!just read dumas "conte of monte cristo"in french!i am french and can tell you that this version is not like the books at all, very free from the book!the book it tenfold better!!!!!

  • @fisteberg For your information, I actually have read the book. The plot of far greater than the movie movie makes it out to be. But in order to cover it's entirety, the movie would be incredibly long. Hence why there's The Count of Monte Cristo series available to watch.

Anyways, even if this movie doesn't cover every aspect of book, it's still enjoyable to watch.

Papillon is a good book, :) but since you claim to be french I'm assuming you've already read it.

  • Haha French people would flip about that... anyone who says you're not French would be a dumbass ;)

  • Jim c. voice is awesome, so manly and gentle!

  • @galinkame jim is a hunk!

  • (continued because i was running out of space)...and there's a scene (where Fernand tells Villefort, "Inform Mercedes that Edmond Dantes has been executed") and a line ("I will change my identity") in the trailer, which are not included in the film. They're not even available as deleted/extended scenes on the DVD. can anyone please tell me why this material was cut from the film and not included on DVD?

  • This film version of Dumas' epic tale really captures the spirit of it, much more so than the 1999 miniseres (which had a blasphemous scene of Edmond breaking into a church and telling Godthat he's taking His place, and an implied sex scene between Edmond and another character invented for the miniseries, among other liberties). My only complaint is that the gendarme who informs Edmond that he's under arrest in the trailer is not the same one in the movie...

  • haha i think the judge that evaluates dantes is CHESS from THE CAPE(tv show)

    like if u agree

  • Now i imagine there is a certain young lady who would like to here this news. HEY MOM GUESS WHAT.

  • @ rindin100

A letter from Napoleon to Clairion(sp) the described the going ons at Elba so he may be rescued. Watch the rest and you'll find out more!

  • what was that letter?

  • I realize that this movie is an extreme bastardization of the text, but damn if it ain't fun to watch.

  • I love Edmond's voice<3

Especially when he's being accused of treason! :O

  • why is it so hard to put this book into a good movie???

  • Bastardization of a great book.

  • @bobgee1999 i start reading teh book next class.

  • Edmond is so HOTTT! lol

  • its thomas cromwell hahahaha he acts the same haaha

  • in a way, morrel screwed dantes over by making him enemies. bad management by him.

  • awesome movie

  • Mercedes is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I am INSANELY jealous

  • its amazing how you could easily pawnage people in those days, bless that guy and his innocent socks

  • @vincentvalentinedark what do you mean "in those days"? People have been pawned all throughout history

  • @vincentvalentinedark even today you can still blackmail someone...cuz laws can be bent

  • @vincentvalentinedark Do you really think that isnt the case today?

  • @vincentvalentinedark Have we succeeded? We think so. Before long we shall have covered with our narratives an enormous period of time; between the "Comtesse de Salisbury' and the "Comte de Monte Christo" five centuries and a half are compresed. Well, we assert that we have taught France as much history about those five centuries and a half as any historian. This passage is from The Companions of Jehu which was written by Alexandre Dumas pere.

  • @vincentvalentinedark This passage is from The incredible marquis by Herbert Gorman entitled the soldier of fortune(chapter six) It was natural that Dumas believed implicitly in the magic of somnambulism, in animal magnetism and in chiromancy. No Haitian negro dancing before his Voodoo altar was more superstitious than Dumas. Home, to Dumas, therefore, was an authentically inspired adept in communicating with unseen world.

  • Mondego is such an arse!!

  • It seems a lot of good moives are based off french books.

  • Dantes is so cute! <3

  • people cant stand when you become El Capitano

  • ah who dosent enjoy some rock sex eh

  • love this movie...

  • Love the book and was not looking for much out of the movie. I think it was very well told. The theme of revenge was presented perfectly.

  • I thought this movie was gonna be another boring film, but when I saw it, it was one of the best movies ever. =) I absolutely loved it <3

  • V for vendetta brought me here.

  • @lolpranksta Same here. I was always curious about the movie that V loved to watch and I'm so glad I followed my curiosity and watched to movie and read the book. Amazing!

  • "He swore its contents were innocent."

    "IT'S NAPOLEON, IDIOT!"

  • i like the book better but at least the movie had made the characters alive!

  • Does no one in this movie have a french accent? How lame...

  • @livelongnprosper92 clarion kinda did

  • 4:05 was a Big no-no back then.... ha ha. but hey when your in love.... and the man is hot ;)

  • "That information is privileged." So...they're going to just arrest people without reason. Way to be.

  • at least he gets to tap mercedes before he gets taken away..

  • just one question. if fernand is of noble birth how is he friends since childhood with a catalan girl and a dyslexic sailor. In the book he was of common birth but amassed wealth and title as a soldier.

  • @swastikausa good point

  • anyone who writes 'the book is better' can go fuck themselves.

  • Since 1990 acting has just got worse and worse. It is all first year RADA amateurs. They can't even totter around drunk. I mean this is real bad.

  • yes the book is much better

  • @Allen2045 the book is good...but it has a ton of storytelling elements that are thoroughly obsolete.

  • 4:00-4:10 Was that in Gozo Island?

  • The book is much better...:))

  • @queenYsaska Yes the book is amazing, but you cant fit 1500 pages into a two hour film

  • Most people think the French are "cowards", "pansies", just because they are kind respectful and very romantic people that choose passion over violence. The french in the 1800's were some of the worlds best swordsmen, greatest poets and muses, some of the greatest writers hail from France. They are a flemboyent and eccentric people, and Paris is arguebly the most beautiful and artistic city in all the world, and don't get me started on their wine.

  • @hussun2021 The people who think the French are cowards are the same type of people who think Italians are mobsters, Americans are all fat, and Africans are less intelligent. Stereotypes are sad, and the people that fall for them are even sadder.

  • badmind is active

  • What an envious little man is than Fernand dude!

  • I took my dad to see this when it first came out. He read the book and prefered the book. Is it that big of a difference?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

yeah, there is a massive difference...the book is alot better than the movies story line by far.

  • what is happening at 3:57?

  • another friend who wants to take your girlfriend lol assholes lol

  • I love this movie. I hope the book is just as good. :)

  • I think the content in the book is better than the movie, but I like the death of Count Mondego in the movie much more than in the book.

  • This movie has to be one of my favorites, so funny how nobody but his former fiancee recognizes him. Just as cool as Clark Kent's trickeries.

  • she's not french. she's actually polish

  • Ive just read the first few pages of the book and I already notice major differences.

  • the version that was made for the french television in 1998 is much more better

  • @nao2024

    "is much more better" LOL

  • ooh danglars got demoted lol well not really but dantes deserves to be the captain of the pharon

  • is it just me or does the guy that plays Fernand look sort of like Prince?

  • god, the american accents are unbelievably distracting

  • wow jim C. is super handsome!

  • She sort of looks like mEgan fox

  • @BrownEyedOwl

    Pssh.. bullshit..

  • Hello everyone. I live in Chicago, and I have read the abriged version of "The count of monte cristo". It was delightful, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find the unabriged version ^_^.

  • @1naruto162 If you have an i{hone or an iPod touch, there is a free app called "Classics" that has the book among others for you to read.

I know its only part two, but I'd venture to say the book has my adoration over the movie. Alas, movies never do justice. It might be good though! *fingers crossed*

    ^Random...I know

  • How does Fernand get his hair like that? lol

  • @23KarlKoch23 I actually have to see the movie before I read the book. Otherwise I'll sit through the whole movie going, "that didn't happen in the book." Then I'd probably hate the movie...

  • @canarydiamond0509 That's good logic!

  • @canarydiamond0509 Shoot that's what I'm doing right now!!!!!

  • this movie is the best! My fav! :) but but the girl pisses me off! hmph!! she goes and marries his best friend like a dam month later after wth...!!! liar stupid girl!!! ok im venting!

  • Ok Diffrent time when they said he died she found comfort in having any man.

  • @swnas To be very technical, (and following the book) it was about a year, I think and she thought he was dead. She had no idea that Fernand had betrayed him. I understand why you'd be upset with Mercedes, but also try to look at it this way...she had lost all she loved and the only person there was Fernand. I don't really like him, but he was the one there for her during sadness. She missed Edmond lots, but thinking he was dead she sucked it up and tried to live life. She tried to be strong.

  • @swnas um yeah but she was pregnant and a woman and unmarried...it really only makes sense that she marry him. her only love was thought to be dead. what was she going to do wait for her life to get worse and oh then maybe get married after a little while longer? i think she did the right thing for her time. i love this movie! and i love mercedes :)

  • isnt teh letter suposed to be to Noirtier ??

  • when they are by the fire that scene is shot in gozo id dwejra :) i lav this movie thanks for puting it on youtube

  • I liked this movie, I like anything Jim Caviezel is in. This is a great story about love, commitment, friendship, betrayal and it shows the lengths a person will go to avenge themselves. Very well done. I'm not one to take a book and sit down and read it, I do read but only for information. Good movie I think.

  • me too. Anything with Jim caveziel from GI Jane onwards, he's great.

  • I'm not going to be your next whistle! lol

  • i read it ...my favorite book :P

  • i know i read it in one sitting the first time i read it too! but i have read it several times since then taking time to remember the details and it still stands as one of my favorite books no matter how many times i read it!

  • who read the book???

  • Me.

  • me!.. but i havnt finished it yet, i heard that the book was different from the movie.. ^^

  • Just finished the first chapter.. or the plot as it is called in the book! Just out of curiosity I searched the name and this came up. I will stop watching it though just wanted to see if the pictures in my head matched the characters and settings in the movie. The first impression is (as usual) the book and the imagination of it all is sooo much better!

  • @0303halo -
