If I'm loading a web page and I go out of Safari to check my e-mail and later go back Safari the page hasn't been loaded, infact it starts to load it again and I have to wait for to load which can be pretty frustrating. When you tack on that thirty dollar little dongle that adds in usb and hdmi functionality (Things that should have already frelling been there from the get go), a screen protector (let's face it, the damn tablets break from a three foot drop, I've dropped laptops five or six feet onto concrete and been fine.), and a price tag on free windows applications...

As for Apple, they're running out of ideas. The iPhone is sitll overhyped by them (there are much better selling multimedia smart phones), and the iPad will be the same. Really if you're going to let it replace your labtop, that's sad. It can't even run multiple apts!
so long as the model for software development is sound, or jailbreak's are available, the iPad will do whatever we need it to do. if an application is requested enough someone will write it. the iPad was a no-brainer and will no doubt be very successful. so many things i would rather a SSD iPad for than my heavy 17" macbook pro with relatively vulnerable mechanical HDD (particularly backing up RAW photo files from SD as would not format SD if only on one HDD but would for a single SSD).

I can see this thing replacing PDAs and being used by office assistants to keep all their files and important information with them around the office or in business meetings. I can see the iPad being quite useful for that.

Onto the iPad. I was one of the people that slated this thing something chronic when it was announced but then the more I thought about it the more I wanted one. In saying that I will still say its a glorified iPhone/iPod touch. If you love your iPhones and Touch but want a bigger screen then go for an iPad, otherwise stick with the gizmo you have. Flash would have been nice but not needed. Some review sites I use have flash players :/
The iPad might be useful for certain situations but it certaintly isn't anything revolutionary like Apple pushes it. I also think you can't justify the lack of flash in the current market either.
It really has no purpose that I can see that would justify the cost either. Overall it's quite an average release for a company that has enough money to make something innovative.

@turkeyman94 $499 is very affordable. The first CD players were 3-400 and DVD was around a grand when it came out and so was blu ray. And HD PVR's were a grand also.

I think it's a dumb device, but it DOES have a place, it's perfect for my friends mum and some other technologically inept folks.

I can see this thing replacing PDAs and being used by office assistants to keep all their files and important information with them around the office or in business meetings. I can see the iPad being quite useful for that.

I may still stand by my issues with the iPad, but, like you said, I may not be in that niche.
When first announced, I was expecting an OSX tablet, literally a digital sketchbook. On that point, they fell short. So, strike one. Sour grapes, basically.
Besides that, however, there is the price. Yes, it's unfair to compare it to a netbook in terms of functionality, but the fact that an iPad does less but costs more is not flattering to it. Strike two.
And two strikes is all I've got.

I will admit, the iPad jokes are pretty juvenile, and while I myself am not a fan of Apple (My own reasons) I still feel the iPad is a great idea. Like you said it will have its little niche that it will fill and I guess that just upsets people. While it may not be for all of us, that doesnt mean its a bad idea.

I agree with it being a success but I do believe there is logic on marketing side. There needs to be a way to upgrade and improve. Thats how a business succeeds. If you know apple history, apple has revolutionized the personal computer all the way from the mouse to the graphical interface of computing operating systems. There is no risk in buying an Ipad. Why are people afraid of a device that is easy to use and fun at the same time!

If Microsoft was accessible it should be able to run ipod and Ipad apps? I think that argument is redundant. Both Microsoft and Apple design software and applications specifically for their operating system. Its your choice which one you pic. Either way there will be some sort of accessibility issues. However, I do understand where you are coming from.

Well, I don't really want whatever I'm using to sound like a feminine product, so yes it's clever.
No flash = no videos. Yes some sites support HTML5, but not all so it's a bummer now, great in the future.
Here's my definition of an iPad:
A device for casual browsing, but a waste of money because a tablet can do exactly what an iPad can do, and more. In short, it's for rich people who don't do much on the net.
So this product may be revolutionary in the future, definitely not now.

So, I bye an iPAD and I will need a kind of covering top to protect the screen. And IF I have a cover that flips over the front, I could put a qwerty type touch pad on this.
And actually end up with a NetBook.... with less extensions .......
This thing sucks.....why not make a slightly bigger iPhone, that what I want....with a 4.5 screen.....and a slide touch keypad....

Flash being imperfect or not you can't just dismiss it as it is stil la major factor in websites.
It's like a company making a car without a radio because finding the station is annoying.
Even if it was ahead of its time and aware that Flash will be less common in a few years in a few years time they'll just have another overrated Apple product who's marketing & fancy desing overshadows cheeper and more effective non-apple products, making the iPad a waste.

Onto the iPad. I was one of the people that slated this thing something chronic when it was announced but then the more I thought about it the more I wanted one. In saying that I will still say its a glorified iPhone/iPod touch. If you love your iPhones and Touch but want a bigger screen then go for an iPad, otherwise stick with the gizmo you have. Flash would have been nice but not needed. Some review sites I use have flash players :/

The iPad might be useful for certain situations but it certaintly isn't anything revolutionary like Apple pushes it. I also think you can't justify the lack of flash in the current market either.
It really has no purpose that I can see that would justify the cost either. Overall it's quite an average release for a company that has enough money to make something innovative.

I think it's good that you are defending this and dispelling some of the stupider arguments against it.
However, speaking from the point of neutrality, I think the iPad is simply built for too small of a niche.
I also must agree with some other user's comments towards your attitude during this review. It seems a tad too much on the fanyboy side, arguing mostly from emotion, rather than fact.
