All those who gain power are afraid to loose it. So the power structure at that time figured out a way for himself (white men) to remain in power and make sure those of different racial, religious, ethnic backgrounds are not given a chance to compete so what the white man did was fairly easy. To remain in power you have to weed out the competition. The power structure successfully lied to and brainwashed poor whites and told them there problems come from racial and religious minorities.

What I'm saying is political conservatives back then brainwashed white voters in believing there problems come from blacks and minorities.
