Late night. Hopped aboard a freight train to who knows where. Watching the night go by from an open boxcar. Resting on a backpack and listening to this song. This is life. Can it get any better than this?
wannawatchu66: You understand my man! And this is also my fave Grusin tune. It's so heavy it's actually hard to take in at times. I listen to it in my truck and sometimes I almost drive off the road. I was just recently employed at Raythoeon Missile systems in '82 in Tucson by then, but I surely remember the goose-bumps on my arms and chills up my neck from this Grusin tune in my truck. You da man, 'wanna' - you know what I'm talking about. Nice to read your input! Yeah, no price for this.
I seem to remember the show's version being played (poorly - I have a copy of it) by Mike Post. I assume this was done because Post was such a known name. And it's odd, with his music usually being wonderful, that Post's cover of this doesn't carry the pure atmospheric magic held by this version. Grusin does wonderful stuff, too.
@mycroft791 So the show used the original music? Do you have any idea when/where the (really poor) Mike Post cover I have came from? I got it randomly off a fileshare program many years ago. Usually, Post's music is great. His cover of this song shows sounds and elements of his work but is sloppily-played, having none of the precision Post usually has, or the precision and clarity this has.
awesome this is the full version of the iconic 80's medical drama and listen to the final few seconds of this version and try to sync it with the Finale version of the outro where we see the MTM Logo at the top of the screen as the credits ran with the picture of the beloved feline hooked to an Electrocardiogram machine with also hooked to an I.V with the cat lying on her side and you hear the beeps and then flatlines.
@KuyaBillRomjue Mark Harmon was the original McDreamy Doctor :) also lets not forget about Denzel Washington as Dr. Chandler also Howie Mandel was Dr. Fiscus and Ed Begley Jr was Dr. Elrich and William Daniels (who we knew as the voice of KITT on KnightRider also later as Mr. George Feeney on Boy Meets World) as surgeon Dr. Mark Craig .
@isleoforkney St. Elsewhere had more of their stories in the operating room and dealt less with the sex lives of the doctors and nurses. The last real medical drama, IMO, was ER.
@MrLogoman007 They even tackled touchy subjects especially the Aids Epidemic in which killed off the handsome and charming Dr. Robert Caldwell portrayed by Mark Harmon
This is lovely! Thanks. There was a cool MTV video of it with some guy playing it on piano with for a girl with the sheet music pages flying off the piano. Wish I could find that one, too.
Such a touching piece...really pull at my heart strings...

Goose bumps already here...
memories of the summer of '84...
graduating high school...
entering broadcast radio...
tears welling up...
This is arguably my favorite Grusin song.
Thanks for the memories...you can't put a price tag on those.

Actually, no, this theme got notoriety becuase it was just about the only popular prime time show whose theme was NOT a Mike Post one.

Best medical drama ever. The only problem was you had to have an attention span. ER was like watching a ping pong ball...just like a kitty.

Grusin is incredible. With themes like Friends and Strangers, and St Elsewhere, he's the special one.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think he was composing it, writing the sheet music as the music played.
