  • There are way too many people with low cognitive functionality to comprehend this movie.

  • This is exactly what I believe happens after each lifetime. You analyze the choices you made, you learn to accept the things you regret and you realize that everything happens for a reason and that everything is perfect just the way it is. Nothing lasts but nothing is lost.

  • Just saw it for the first time and had no idea what to expect. I am completely blown away

  • Haven't cried for 10 years. Then sobbed like a little bitch during the movie.

  • Wow. I remember just being in pure awe while watching this for the first time. Even better, I was still in awe in later viewings of the movie. Jackman and Weisz's acting, with Clint Mansell's amazing score combined with Aronofsky's vision and the story, it was just...wow, you know?

It was all perfect! I'll never forget this movie and its numerous messages. Not many films have left that sort of impact on me.

  • Aronofsky can do no wrong!!

  • together we will live forever.

  • i always crying at this moment :)

  • just cried even after watching only one scene of this movie, its just so goddam powerful

  • This is so incredibly hard acting to do. Jackman has to look into space and imagine his wife there..so much of the movie hinges on him emoting this feeling in weird ass settings..like the space ship scene here.

I think he should have won an Oscar for this.

Reminds me of Kidman in "The Others" in that you have to act without getting anything back from a person....hardest acting to do.

  • I wish Hugh Jackman would do something that stretches his acting ability like this movie did, other than "Wolverine". I hope he made enough money in that role to do something interesting like this again

  • You do, you will ...

  • SO WONDERFUL :'(

  • Accept mortallity, and you will live forever.

  • wonderfull...Love...

  • soo. 240p we meet again.

  • Together, we will live forever. I can't tell you how many times that quote randomly forces itself out of my mouth. It's pretty awkward sometimes. I'll be in the middle of checking out my groceries at Target and sudden'y say it. The cashier gave me a very confused look. I made him a little uncomfortable....

  • It`s one of the most moving, profound and mindblowing films I`ve ever seen.

  • haha i almost just cried at work watching this

  • what does the tree represent?

  • @lynchinjesus In this scene the tree represents Izzy, a potential cure and hope. You should watch the movie and figure out your own meaning though; it's just brilliant.

  • @chcomilk7412 i seen it a couple years ago, i remember it being confusing so i havent really tried to re watch. this part is good tho.

  • yeah big up. now let's see it happen for real

  • Very sad scene.....

  • This movie speaks to me... Watching it gives me chills.

  • fucking Intense !

  • this is one of the greatest movies of all time and i dont give shit if you think otherwise

  • 24 people are afraid of Awe.

  • id say green mile at the end really got to me just like this

  • @darci9ful 3 and a half years ago, I watched this with on two tabs of acid.

In my life then, I was completely lost. But the scene with the Grand Inquisitor and "our bodies are cells", literally scared the idea of Hell into me. It was God's way of turning me towards him.

I am not being boastful, but I am proud to say I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I am so happy you experienced what you did, and may you come to find the pursuit of truth leads to only one place-Christ.

  • I'm gonna die

  • Superbe...

  • This is the best scene in movie history.

  • @fskoti My thoughts exactly. The symbolism of the entire film builds to this sequence and what comes after it, and the entire last fifteen minutes of the film are a musical, visual, and verbal poem. I have the soundtrack to the movie, and use it as my 'getting things done' music because it reminds me that my time is valuable.

  • she says to him "You do, You WILL" to me, it was about taking action and having his "WILL" be done... then he says to the tree "We will, live forever" in the sense that his will is to live forever, In buddhism, this is the first step to becoming enlightened, Accepting that you are going to die. When you accept this fact you live in the NOW each and every moment of your life. You stop labeling and trying to make sense of events that have no meaning at all. You create Peace and not violence

  • @secretdekoi "will" in this case is a verb. She's saying: "You do know what to do; you will deliver Spain from bondage."

  • @RecessOfTheMind will in the sense of making it his "WILL" She is saying that when he acts he "WIlls" it into existence. that is why he pauses or puts a little emphasis on the word will, "We WIll, (the ability to) live forever."

  • @secretdekoi I guess it could be interpreted that way, but that really doesn't make much sense to me at all. Either way, this is still an amazing piece of cinematography

  • One of the few things that could ever move my heart would be this scene, heh.

  • most underrated film of all time! Best acting i've ever seen, hugh jackman is the best!

  • I love this movie, this scene in particular is haunting...its just fantastic. He accepts his fate, knowing he's going to die when he reaches his destination. Really well done...

  • my favorite movie ever. it has everything; emotion, intensity, sincerity, joy, drama, spirirtuality, epicness, and so on. it deserves to be remembered, studied and explored. two thumbs up to Darren Aronofsky, Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz.

  • ah my favorite movie. I cant express how much I like it through words but I have been inspired to watch it again. And whoever wants to see it go buy it its amazing

  • What strikes me is the negative criticism film critics have made on this film on rotten tomatoes. Those people are just low life sons of bitches IMO they don't know what love or spirituality is about. Its so frustrating. GRrrr :@

  • @K3V1NG1994 fuck those cunts

  • @K3V1NG1994 who gives a **** about them...leave them to their misery...and enjoy what one enjoys

  • And woman claim that men don't know how to show there emotions. This is a great example of how men are in touch with their emotions and their love, and what are capable of doing for the woman they love.

  • this deserves to go down as one of the most emotional death soliliques in cinema along with the famous "tears in rain" scene from bladerunner. remarkable.

  • :'^(

  • Such beauty within sadness...

  • So sad, but yet so beautiful.

  • ya 1 gran secrit derier c film

  • What is the name of the score in this scene? It's not Xibalba.

  • @muhibah1 The Last Man.

  • 2:40 Love it but it kills me always... LOVE THIS MOVIEEEE T_T

  • im going to pirate bay right now!!!!

  • @Anakin8th How about you just buy the movie and support a great director?

  • @tubafatness how about i don't... cuz i don't give a shit about the director...

  • @Anakin8th sad

  • @Anakin8th People should support the artists and pieces of work they appreciate.

  • @Anakin8th To the High Seas!!

  • @Anakin8th Wait, this movie is too great to be pirated. Go to the rental store and rent it.

  • We meet again, 240p.

  • WTF -.-

i just checked on imbdb and this movie only got a 7.4

for me this belongs DEF in the 10 best movies all times !

this movie gives to much emotions !

  • @xTemplar1 it's imdb. I rated it a 8. It's a nice movie, but you must know the rates there are high at all, and in my opinion, despite this awesome scene, it's not a perfect movie. If you check metacritic, they rate it 51/100...

  • @xTemplar1 7.4 on IMDB is a very good movie. I'm sure you realize that a movie can't be perfect for everybody. From my best 10 Movies of all time I would give out a 10 (perfect) only to like 3 4 of them.

  • @justromeo a very good rating I mean.

  • Finish it

  • Movies like these, are the ones that make you think so much, you just collapse, cause of all the emotions, feelings, and thoughts going through your mind at the same time.

  • Amazing

  • Aronofsky is a genius, he can build intrigue, suspense and drama like few other directors today. The Fountain is one of my favorites, but all of his work is outstanding.

  • Thumbs up if you think thismovie made you cry just as much as titanic.

  • Xibalba ,We're Here !!!

  • I cry everytime.

  • @braian7x me too :(

  • @braian7x same here, even though being a guy you are supposed to be tough but this movie is my Achilles espically this scene

  • argybag needs to reupload the video, must see in HD!

  • Hugh... I love you. But seriously. Do not go bald. Ever. You loose a large amount of sexiness.

  • @HannaOlsen94 The baldness gives a connotation of purity and cleanliness and knowing Darren Aronofsky's style, I would assume it was for that reason.

  • @K3V1NG1994 Don't get me wrong. Fits the movie well! Just doesn't suit Hugh.

  • @HannaOlsen94 Fair enough.

  • Each time I watch this movie I get the chills, It's been awhile since a movie has moved me so much.

  • I absolutley love this film. <3 It fills me with so many emotions. Great scene, it's when he finishes it.

  • - place deep comment here -

  • Damn this scene! Damn it to hell!!! I will be the exception. You may need each other but I dont need any of you. Better to be as neurotic and indifferent as a stone within the cold, dead earth than to be nothing. The rest of you can burn if you like. Keep chasing new. Technology will open the door to eternity. The hell with you. If you want to flicker then flicker out now you cowards!!

  • This is one of those movies that you either 'get' or don't.

If you dont get it, its just a jumbled mess of storylines with some pretty pictures and good acting.

If you do get it, its the best damned film ever made.

The Fountain isn't about two people and their particular story, its about humanity's struggle with life, death, love, obsession, lonliness, letting go, and more.

This film is about nothing less that coming to terms with the parameters of our very existence.

  • Arronovsky is an image poet -

  • I can't take this scene, it makes me weep each time I watch it. When he says, with a smile, "I'm gonna die." And they smile together.

  • My girlfriend said to me after watching this movie : I don't understand a thing from this movie. This movie is too weird and bizarre. And i was like : NNNOOOO this is like the best movie of all time, you can't say such a thing! Even if you don't understand, it's a beautiful movie!. Damn it. I'd watch that movie over and over. And the music helps to get the feelings of this movie.

  • @BrokkenArt SHUT THE FUCK UP!! im with your wife and she's right this movie is weird and fucking retarded. this is by far a cool looking movie but its fucking retarded and the direction is far and beyond. it seems that all they did was making it pretty looking but the movie had no direction on where it was going

  • @MoK86 You sir are a very rude person. I don't have a wife. This movie isn't wierd and ''retarded''. If you think of it that way, then you must be part of the people who didn't understand the message of this movie. It didn't had no direction on where it was going, it just was a different way to direct it.

  • @BrokkenArt are you serious? OMG you wanna be hipster fag!! that made no sense asshole!! omg you are one of those fags who enjoy stupid films like PTA films like punch drunk love and shit like southland tales right?

  • @MoK86 Honestly? Not at all. I am far from that. But anyway. We like different movies. That's okay. I think we don't have to argue, right?

  • @BrokkenArt no you dont have to argue i just want you to admit your a fag and that you are full of shit on how you interpreted this movie.

  • @MoK86 Oh, really ? Damn, that hurts. But sir, would you tell me what the hell you're doing on this video if you think this is ''shit'' ?

  • @BrokkenArt got the same reaction from my girl. You would think they would have really liked it beside it being a lil weird. This movie is deep

  • The best Hugh Jackman performance too.

  • He is practicing the law of free will... the freedom not to choose... but the freedom to create your will... he is not saying "we will live forever" as a statement... he is saying "we will... the ability to live forever" as a command so his will be done... he accepts death... the final law of the universe and he practices the law and it corresponds with his will.

  • "You do, you will..."

Probably the simplest phrase I've ever heard that utilizes the deepest, most profound conception of life.

We do live forever. We will live forever.

  • This scene is the heart of this fantastic film. Best scene ever!

  • Is it me or did the tree of life have fungus infection or somthing. Just like the doctors tree of life. He will live forever thats for sure it will eat him up and he will die and live in heaven forever.

  • Lool I get a lump in my throat when i watch this scene, and i'm a guy!

  • THE MUSIC IS KILLING ME!!!

  • One of the greatest movies of all time.

  • Hugh Jacman + Rachel Weisz = bullshit

  • I'm a guy but everytime watch this movie, it brings me to tears. ....does that actually make me less less masculine?

  • @Beerbottles123 Hell no! That makes you human.

  • @Beerbottles123 No, it does not. But fuck masculinity. The fact that this is movie draws tears from anyone who watches it with attention, feeling, and sympathy shows just how complete it is. This movie is something. Every single guy I know who have seen this movie have been crying over it, they admit. And i do as well.

  • when Tom says "I'm gonna die" and Izzy smiles...it's just making me cry, it's such a beautiful scene.

  • DELETE THIS VIDEO. 240p ARE YOU JOKING!

  • @DeathInSpace805 Shut up, negus.

  • @DeathInSpace805 LEAVE THIS VIDEO

  • OMG its seems that 22 persons watching with there fukn Ass''s ...

  • vrh

  • It's amazing how such a scene can bring out so much emotion... fml... brilliant...

  • This movie didn't make it in America because it was too deep and spiritual, simply put. It is about ascending time and space and becoming immortal, too deep for the average western mind.

  • @Jeremiah2305 To de average American mind, please.

Not every western country is as brainless as U.S.

  • @JCRS666 Silence eurofag. lest we burn your sissy children to mist with the sheer power of american badassery! Im sorry whats that? i cant hear your over how awesome i am... sincerely America

  • @priorblood8 That is exactly what I'm talking about, brainlessness.

And please, think before you write (if what you do can be called "writing").

  • @priorblood8 u think u r bad wait till china takes over they are already moving ahead

  • im confused

  • the best and tragick film i ever saw ='(

  • Whatever I was just looking at goes blank...im looking into deeper thoughts now

  • who can tell me the name of this movie in french, and where i can see it, please

  • watch?v=DwcBWT8LBJA full Movie in german :)

  • in the german version his voice is more emotional

  • This film makes me cry so much :( it is so beautiful and sad.

  • I must admit I didn't wholly understand this film. But it's so beautiful that I just don't care! I understand it enough to enjoy it at least!

  • PEWPEW LAZORS WHY IS HE KISSING A TREE?????????????? I DUN GET IT 0-o

  • I'm Gonna Die <3

  • Comment removed

  • so my friend says "this is dumb dude its some crybaby in a bubble with a tree , lets watch the hangover 2 "......why cant people see past mainstream media enjoy a movie with meaning that has you questioning your existence?

  • @jake062490 because most people are sheep theres nothing u can do to change them very few individual people around

  • how can this not to love? here is an idiot 22

  • The fact that this movie failed at the box office is a travesty. Easily my favorite movie ever. Its a perfect example of pure raw emotion captured on film set to the most beautiful score Ive ever heard.

  • @RisqueRooster It failed at the box office because it asked too much of the common man. It is a movie that requires an open, explorative and in many regards philosophical mind in order to be fully understood and appreciated. Whilst on the surface its lacklustre commercial success could be seen as a hindrance or even a failure - I rebuke that entirely. To me - the fact that so few people understand it further proves how advanced and unique it is.

Only those that can appreciate it, do.

  • @FatherFizz Completely agree with you. I wasnt saying the movie was a failure due to its lack of commercial success however, just stating that it didnt make money and that it fully deserved to. Its just sad to me that the majority of the general public would prefer to watch a mindless 90 minute explosionfest rather than see something with real heart and originality.

  • @RisqueRooster Agreed. But alas, it seems to be the road humanity is taking. =/

  • @FatherFizz

Best reaction ever on this movie. Bravo! This is my favorite movie ever since i seen it and I've been showing it to all of my friends and family, of course i noticed it's a love it or hate it movie, but most of them loved and adored it, but those who didn't understand automatically didn't like it :-/

  • @FatherFizz To some extent, I agree with you. It's possible that not many people "get" this film, but just because someone doesn't like it doesn't mean they don't get it. Personally, it's one of my favourite films but I do admit that it is flawed. And unfortunately it's gotten much attention from pseudo-philosophical pretentious morons who seem to think that this movie is the key to understanding life. Sure, it's a profound movie, but the secret of the universe it is not (probably).

  • @RisqueRooster Clint Mansell's music is always so perfect and to the point; this score is full of heartache and joy

  • I'm GONNA DIE!!!

    YES!

Death isn't as bad as society makes it to be. Its merely a transition from one existence to another.

  • my favorite hugh jackman's performance...it's a pitty that he is well known for x-men and not for this masterpiece

  • @spooky0834

    exactly !

  • brings me to tears every time...i agree this film is my favorite. Its such a beautifully made film.

  • @italtexasgal When I saw this movie I had been crying for 3 hours.. I just feel that something changed inside me.

But the pain of losing someone still hurts the same..

  • I'm amused how religious people think this has anything to do with god. This is spiritual transcendence. The religion just hi-jacked it. You are now unable to feel transcendence, just a replacement. Whenever a person without a belief in god feels the real spiritual moment. For example the meaning of life through immortality in this movie, your feelings are just rounded to fit the bible.

  • @SmartK8

Well said, this is exactly what I've been saying this whole time.

  • @SmartK8 I'm an Amerindian, and I couldn't agree with you more. Most of the tribes were/are far more spiritual than any religious people. I'm an Atheist, and I KNOW I have more spirituality in my thumb than 30,000 religious people combined. In fact, most religious people seem almost ANTI-spiritual.

@thevideo And this movie, The Fountain, is a wonderful portrayal of many Native beliefs and understandings. It's a masterpiece in every aspect imo.

  • Actually Aronofsky's wrote the film inspired from the Book of Genesis.

"We've seen it all. It's not really interesting to audiences anymore. The interesting things are the ideas; the search for God, the search for meaning."

Christianity inspired the film ie eternal life, faith, and love. Though it's neat you found you're own interpretation, don't hate on theists understanding the actual creative meaning of the director / screen writer.

  • @SmartK8 Maybe you are to arrogant to understand the meaning of God in the bible. And the religions have tried to explain the same as this movie, so when you finally also get the same understanding you can't accept the fact that it is the same as your religious friend has had all the time when you thought he/she just was stupid or naive.... The movie explores the concept of the divine. Its not religious in nature, but it is the same concept as all the religions are trying to explain to you.

  • @Culturealimprovement last i checked the main religions were made up copying each other as a military recruiting tool. if you look at the origins and what went on this is painfully obvious.

i'm atheist about religion and agnostic about the possibility of a god in general unrelated to religious favoritism.

  • @TheRaellz

I can only suggest you also check the origins of the words in the religious texts.

Can you call yourself atheist if you use mathematical divisors every day?

Can you call yourself agnostic if you allow the doctor to set a diagnose for your disease?

  • @SmartK8 Цель искусства размягчить душу человека, а не дать ему Святой Дух, настоящее искусство в этом и проявляется - например иконы, почему икона, образ не может быть в виде фильма или музыки?

  • @SmartK8 And you amuse me, that is the whole point of art, you get out of it what you want to get out of it

  • @SmartK8 I'm not a Christian myself, but why not let everyone draw their own conclusions? As for what the film is and isn't about, that's for Aronofsky to know and the rest of us to wonder. A theist's guess/interpretation is as good as your own.

  • @gaatakek Absolutely.

  • @gaatakek Theirs no guessing or theory on what this movie is about. You get the metaphors or you don't. Its just a journey of a man trying to concoure his fear of death. No riddles, that's it

  • @kafthinos80 I do agree with you said and do view the movie as a metaphor, but one of the good things about it is that it's open to interpretation. Sure, a viewer's interpretation may be incorrect, but as Aronofsky said himself: "[The film is] very much like a Rubik's cube, where you can solve it in several different ways, but ultimately there's only one solution at the end."

  • @kafthinos80 The present storyline is told through flashbacks from the future. The book is the metaphor that was written to help him get over fear of death. Just before he dies in the future he finishes the book, which he dies in, showing he doesn't fear death anymore. You can't say "you get the metaphors or you don't" when you clearly don't. And please don't say I'm wrong, I know what I'm talking about.

  • @olgil What are you talking about "I clearly don't get it"? You just reexplained everything I stated in the appropriate way. lol were both on the same page. I never said you specifically didn't get it. I'm talking about the viewers who read to deeply into it

  • @SmartK8 Don't spoil it for them, they're having fun :p

  • Religion has nothing to do with true spirituality. It only advocates blindness and stunting the potential growth for reaching maximum capacity in mind, body and spirit. Attaining true spirituality can never be achieved through false practices and feigning ignorance instead of questioning such institutions and living your own life while avoiding living how others tell you to live.

In essence, I completely agree with you, Smartk8.
